Screenshot of Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War - Image 1Take a trip down the Pacific theater with us as we take a look at the first screenshots of Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War (PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii). The images, leaked from the German official Xbox magazine and several European sites, weren't supposed to be seen until its official unveiling next week.

The images definitely keep in the theme of the Call of Duty series, especially now that the latest iteration decided to return to its World War II roots. Utilizing the same engine from the previous title, Call of Duty: World at War is definitely shaping up to be another great installment to CoD legacy.

Check in with us again next week as we cover more news regarding the latest game in the Call of Duty series. In the meantime, you can enjoy the rest of the screenshots we have from the game below.

WTF Didnt they get cod 4 was awesome with modern weapons and modern situations 5-10 years ago the market was flooded with these ww1-ww2/cold war games there boring the story can never change in the end everyone knows the outcome at least in cod 4 it looked like for a second the bad guys were going to win. these ragtime shooters always meet expectations why would i say that? because cod 4 exceeded my expectations this one will not it already happened nothing will change untill i see something that will change my mind i will not buy this game

I like these types of games. They're interesting and fun to play. If you don't like it, don't play it. No need to moan and complain online.

if he moans and enough people moan they will see what spasticated idiots they truely are, give it back to IF

they made the worlds best game (many agree)

and yet they say the population, wanted another WWII,

i wouldnt mind some kind of civil war or rebellion game, where theres a bit more hatred, not a war where the 2 sides started playing soccer, thats why war is retarded

I agree with you. And those pictures above don't look like screenshots... more like an artists rendition.

If you don't like WW2, then stop complaining about it, because your crying will fall on deaf ears.

But wow, look at those textures. A huge step up from COD4's muddy low-res garbage textures.

Europe and Asia under siege and the murder of millions of innocent civilians isn't enough hatred for you?

I'll agree that the subject has been overused in games and other media but, unlike you, I'm not going to be disrespectful by comparing a World War to a soccer match.

Treyarch ftw even though the gameplay will probably blow COD4's monotonous crap out of the water!

The only reason everyone rides COD4's ***** is because it's a noob game, a 3 year old could get kills with ease. No skill required. Since IW isn't making it and it takes place in th past (that IS where COD started in the first place) everyone is afraid to play it.

Yes I am afraid to play it. Call of Duty 3 taught me to fear anything treyarch makes. I love WWII shooters. I love good developers even more. Notice this game will come out for the next gen consoles, it will come out for the Wii, it will come out for the handhelds including the gameboy color, the PC, the washing machine and anything that plugs into an electric socket. You know why? Treyarch fails at being a developer so unlike IW they can't achieve wealth by making quality games they do it by making sub par games for everything available. It's not that I'm an IW fanboy, it's that I hate developers like Treyarch.

# LOL! Good point.NarooN 2008-06-17 15:18
That is their one mistake. I don't see why they have to be like the movie-developers and develop the same game for systems released back in the 80s, then expect people to buy the current gen versions.

And tbh, this game seems like another usual COD-formula. I.e. "Zomg we'll get a big group assembled and send them places have a few of them die then keep going till they winzors lololol GI Joe ftw"

I mean, I seriously think the story will be dumb as hell. The only part of the story I liked in COD4 was when you play that mission where your soul purpose (lol) was to die from radiation poisoning. It was epic. but yeah... I still like WW2 games but if they do nothing new I won't buy. This might be one time where I actually count on reviews before I make the purchase.

i just dont think anyone cares about the ww2 setting anymore. Its half way retarded for them to go bac. What ever just more money in my pocket

# Well...StainlessSteve 2008-06-17 15:50
I actually don't have an argument against that. You're right though, the story in CoD4 wasn't really its strongest point...

# Yeah...Vanaheimx 2008-06-17 21:06
Yeah, I'd rather express my opinion in the fact that Treyarch blows, and COD4 is the bomb.

I didn't moan... OR complain! ;D

# Wha...?Vanaheimx 2008-06-17 21:10
Who the hell cares about the stupid campaign? I still havn't played through the campaign mode on Call of Duty 4, and I'm not going to anytime soon.

If Call of Duty 5's internet is anywhere as deep as COD4... I might think about glancing at it... but a good story in an online shooter has no purpose to me.

Although you and I haven't played completely through single player there are people who don't have internet and I'm sure would still like to feel that the game is worth $64.64.

i think they keep getting better and better. when cod4 come out i thought it was going to ruin there franchise thing they had going but it got people from ww2 games and people from modern games and put it together. i think this will be just as good as the other ones.

# I can see what he means...Popson 2008-06-19 07:00
I really don't believe there was much hatred during WW2... It was more, soldiers doing what they were commanded to do and getting slaughtered. Don't get me wrong, WW2 was (most obviously) a terrible event in history, but in my opinion it is pathetic to keep playing them when the outcome is clear...

A civil war game would be more exciting. Like a game based in Israel where you have to fight the Palestinians, or something of that nature. Something that truly explores the power of religion and human nature, and one where you don't know the outcome...

WW2 was just a bunch of teenage pawns being thrown at each other. Yes there was the holocaust, but that's not something shooters really can explore, especially since most people didn't find out about all the atrocities until after the war.
