At the end of March, we received a pres release stating that Map Pack 1 for Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War has successfully broken the downloads record on Xbox Live. The curious thing about it was that there was no figure attached to the report, although there was mention that more than 150 million people have already joined in the multiplayer around the world.

Today we solve that mathematical oddity as we have the figures for the said blockbuster Map Pack 1. Combining stats for both the XBL and PSN downloads, the DLC racks up a whopping 2 million downloads. And that's just for a little over a month since it launched back in Mid-March.

Mark Lamia of Treycarch is of course happy and thankful to the fans who are supporting the game, and for never tiring of WWII shooters. If you're expecting more big things to come for World at War (PS3, Xbox 360), then June is the next date to watch out for, cos the next DLC is dropping then.

Here's to hoping that DLC would be even better than this already-great one.

ha.

I recall a lot of people telling me this game was a failure, and that no one played it. WHAT? Looks like I was right, again, that anyone who says Treyarch failed needs to quit gaming. I personally don't care much anymore for the game, but they knew how to market it, and they're sitting on some fat cash right now.

I agree with you that it's a popular game - most of my COD4 friends are always online with this now. But... I'm not sure about your marketing comment! I can honestly say I haven't seen one advert on TV for this game - saw loads for COD4. I think a lot of this game's success comes from casual gamers who saw this title as an 'upgrade' from Modern Warfare. Either way you're right. Treyarch are rolling in it now. I'm still a COD4 man myself.

Honestly, I hardly ever see any game ads on TV anymore, but then again, I hardly even watch TV anymore so yeah. All of the ads I saw for CoD5 were on the internet. For 5 or so months after the game's release, almost every site I went to had the ad for the game, and then the ads came back for the DLC. I think most marketing nowadays is done on the internet, since broadband as well as PC's are much more accessible and affordable.

Yeah, I spose mate. There's always gaming ads here in the UK, but even if it's a multi-platform game, the ads always end in "Available for the Xbox 360"! I think Microsoft themselves certainly know how to market their products. The advertising for MW2 is gonna be harsh lol!

...

I was thinking it was just XBL sales because I forgot it came out for PS3 lol. 2mil for both systems is pretty good for them I suppose but I still hate the game as do many of my friends. I didn't like any of the previous iterations from Treyarch but I've always been a fan of Infinity Ward, once they went modern I didn't see a point in back tracking but as long as they're keeping both veins going everybody wins. I want to see how well Modern Warfare 2 does with its figures, can't help but think it'll do better, just hope they push the game well in the marketing.
