Call of Duty 3 and Tony Hawk's Project 8: Not 720p |
Ó
Call of Duty 3 and Tony Hawk's Project 8 are apparently running at less than 720p. In this case, COD 3 is running at 1040x620 pixels, while Tony Hawk's latest skateboard game is at 1040x580. Not exactly the kind of stellar looks one would expect to see on new Xbox 360 titles.
In either case, it doesn't seem to be for the purpose of increasing framerates as Project 8 still has framerate woes, so Joystiq asks a rather pertinent question. Additional follow-up reveals that Activision Germany is looking into the problem, though they weren't aware of it originally.
Now, how does this affect PS3 gamers? Well, if the same little problems that popped up in the Xbox 360 versions are a result of bad coding, then there's a pretty good chance new owners of PS3s will not be getting the kind of gameplay they were expecting from the two titles upon purchasing the system. Not exactly the response to Gears of War that Activision was hoping CoD 3 could be, but oh well. Still, here's to hoping they find out what's wrong and fix it.

activision licks balls,
I thought Sony said all PS3 games would be in 1080p? Another quote disproven. When will people learn, Sony over-promises and under-delivers.
" then there's a pretty good chance new owners of PS3s will not be getting the kind of gameplay they were expecting from the two titles upon purchasing the system" But i thought u guys always said Graphics=/=Gameplay? (owned)......
I'm running COD3 on my 360 in 1080p mode. It's flawless so this means nothing...
I actually don't bealive this. COD3 looks graphically amazing, the only thing in it that looks low res, is the cut scenes (video but scenes)
they said 1080p was POSSIBLE, not that all games would support it. When will people learn, fanboys over-talk and under-walk.
actually at e3 sony president did say *all games would be 1080p at 60fps on our PS3 console*
umm then they should start coding for the PS3 first.. and PORT everything to the Xbox and Wii..
We should all be pissed at this....Is this suppose to be "THE NEXT GEN" or what. I for one am not that impressed whit COD3 graphically...I mean compared to GOW. And we find out its not running at 720 p is a kick in the nuts
I think tony hawk looks extremely crisp and clear, when I first played it my thoughts were that it was rendered in 1080. Whatever they need to do to make the graphics look good works for me. Way better than THAW.
In case none of you DUMB S.H.I.T.S have noticed, EVERYONE LIES. People try and make stuff look better and sound better than seems. Get used to it and quit whining. X360 and PS3 are NOT next gen. F- OFF
How is it Sony's fault for a third party developer *****ing up? For all we know, Sony could have just been referring to 1st party games all being 1080p (maybe there was an asterisk after the statement lol). Anyways, Sony doesn't have much control over what third party developers do, and if a developer does something like this... thats the developers mistake, not Sony's. So don't badmouth Sony and say the PS3 under-delivers. Also, they are taking about the Xbox 360 version of these two games in this article if you didn't know, the article states, "how does this affect PS3 gamers? Well, if the same little problems that popped up in the Xbox 360 versions" So no one knows if the PS3 coding will be *****ed up like the Xbox 360 version. You people need to learn your facts and read things more carefully before you go and run your mouth.
on the back of the game case of my Tony Hawk Project 8 game for PS3, its says that 720 is the supported HD video output.
Ummm asfjk..... I'm pretty sure same is on the 360 case (720p/1080i) support. The point is that the native image is not 720p. Both render it at 720p but it needs to be upscaled, or at least this is what i got out of this argument.
Sony is still a big LIAR. But what about the scaling of these resolutions? it doesn't fit in any way. it will look crappy on ALL HD televisions (even on true HD)
why would they port to a lower gaming console like sony? xbox 360 is the better console for gaming and development, get used to it buddy. if you dont believe me, read on... http://www.itvidya.com/playstation_3_vs_xbox_360
PS3 + 360 are great systems and love them equally. I finally saw the light and I"m no longer a fanboy.
Like how Microsoft said that all 360's would work out of the box? sorry, had to do it.
Who gives a *****, COD3 still looks amazing.
who said anything about nex gen or ps3 or 360?......... i sure didnt i clearly stated that activision licks balls..... and you my friend now officially lick my balls too.
Umm.. XBOX 360s don't work out of the box? I guess they would have sold over 6 million if they worked huh. Go back to arts and crafts, retard.
Sorry buddy not all Xbox's worked. If you got one the first day chances are you don't have the same console, harddrive, power box - one of these things messed up. Yet xboys complain that Sony lied about getting to 1080p. Yet the fact that the hddvd was a add-on was not a lie, right. If you are going to call Sony liars at least be fair about it. Microsoft overpromised also, by the way how's that backwards compatibility going on your 360, Jay Allard saidd it's getting better all the time. By now it should work for just about every game right, *****.
If I cared about either of these games I'm not sure I would care about this as long as the game looked good. But c'mon it's Activision, the last game they did I liked more than a little was NBA JAM, and that was like 10 years ago. Even their classic games aren't that great, I rather buy MIdways or NAmco's compilations anyday.
we know that! Xbox 1080 (finally supporting 1080P over a digital connection) and PS4 with 4 cell chips is the next generation!
Upscaling have small advantages. It can make things look sharper and thats about it. The game was developed for 720p because at that time, 720p was the standard Microsoft set out. They have no need or want to waste money on further development in a 1080p version. So what your getting is a port.
1 in 100 launch systems didn't work right. Microsoft fixed them for free. The fact you're making such a big deal about nothing means you're scared by competition. All $ony's PS3's are going to work perfectly right away-- sure. As I recall, they also had problems with previous consoles. If you knew anything about manufacturing, it's common with all products. People just make a huge deal about game systems. Microsoft never overpromised s*it, only saying how many games are backward compatible. They've issued 3 updates since then in a year. Bring on anything else you can make up and I'll shoot you down.
