Buzzer beater: PS3 units fall short at GameStop |

The PS3 launch is already on Friday. It's the last stretch of the ball game and GameStop/EBGames (playfully known here in QJ as "EBStop") pulls a buzzer beater with an air-ball. [le sigh] While they were accepting a slim number of eight pre-orders per store last month, that number just might get slimmer.A GameStop rep confirmed with GameSpot that they received allocation numbers from Sony and looking at the list, it seems as if there's going to be a couple of unhappy pre-order-ers. He gave no specific number, however, of how many pre-ordered requests are going to be fulfilled.
At launch day, the company will fill orders depending on the sequence they were registered, and those that have pre-ordered but won't get a console will still be compensated with a free used game or a DVD ticked at US $ 19.99 or less when they eventually do get the console. Here's his statement:
We are beginning to notify our customers that our initial shipment of PS3 systems will not be what we expected. As this is not an ideal situation, we are asking employees to wait to purchase systems until the second shipment. We are anticipating having systems to cover reservations before Christmas.
The company is going to have a phone brigade to contact all the concerned individuals who would or wouldn't get their system, so please, just wait patiently for the call. If all else fails, just contact your neighborhood branch, and please, don't make a scene. Let's not make it any harder for them. "EBStop" is already doing all the damage control they could, and quite frankly you can't directly blame them for falling short of stock.

my store said 16...... aight this is gay
Initially my store was allocated for 16 units. I just got a call from the manager and that number was cut in half to 8. Luckily, I am number 7. He also said that if any preorders are not picked up by 7:30 they call the next person on the list. I expect there will be about 20 people in the U.S. that get that call, so not all hope is gone.

but the good thing is that Sony informed Gamestop and Funcoland that Playstation 3 systems will be delivered every week after launch so it wont be too bad at least those who reserved will be getting them.
i just called and after deciphering who was in line and what spot, my store had 8, now they have 6....
it might be 4 now
they ran out.
I just went to my GS... I was first in line to pre-order so they said if they get only one, it comes to me. They aren't sure how many, but they will get some of the 16 they thought they'd get. I paid off the rest, and they said I have 48 hours after launch to get it.

What about all those people who sold their reserves on Ebay? What if they get a call saying they wont receive theirs ouch.
if you pre-ordered and expected to be guarenteed a system anyways......didn't people learn from the 360, did they think PS3 would be any different ? Silly humans....

remember that little piece of paper that was given to everyone who reserved one (and if you didn't it was in the email they sent out announcing the reserves). it did say that the $100 min reserve DID NOT guarantee a system on launch, but did guarantee a place in line. so b4 you start yelling at your local EBStop remember they did warn you. and it's not like they can control the amount that SONY sends them. and if anyone is wondering yes i did reserve one but much like nanoware(#9) i just missed the cutoff. but as you can see i harbor no ill feeling towards EBStop, only a little disapointed at Sony. but i relax in knowing that i will have one by xmas. so everyone chill, as if noone expected the numbers to be small
i was number 10/16. they got 10.....but i have to settle for a 20GB or wait a few weeks. hopefully my other preorder....5th in line will come through....haha

not EB-games Sony told them they were getting X number of consoles. EB-games said cool, k peoples, X number of preorders, get them while they're hot! Then Sony said, no you get half that So it's not the store's fault. Go buy a Wii or something if it will make you feel better.

Eb and gamestop made no deals with sony or acknowledge the numbers, the day they pre ordered the ps3 most stores did the same number of wii pre orders as ps3? they simply pulled the numbers out of their ass, how can toys r us have the same number of the system as pre orders, simply they did it by the numbers and EB did not
Was eighth in line. Called my local GS yesterday. Found my buddy (the assistant manager) extremely pissed. He won't get one, and the manager won't get one. That bumps me down to number 6. They are getting 7 PS3's, w00t!! I am teh 1337 1.
well i quit funcoland today.. my mom had reserved a Playstation 3 for the family as a xmas surprise i found out. They called the house saying she had to wait to second shipment because i am a employee... and i am not an employee so i called corporate and they gave me a okay to get it. i need to get in contact with the district manager now today or tommorow and call corporate back interesting to see how this plays out

I pre-ordered with Play Asia back in August. My Japenese PS3 is already on it's way and I'll have it before all of you. I'm not a PS3 fan as my XBOX 360 is more than adequate so it's off to ebay. Don't mean to rub it in but it's definately funny.
well the turn has turned nasty if u read my blog. Well apparently my mom was #4 and a friend of mine was 3 and another 5. And we go into the store today and see its now #31 hmmm how did that happen.. there is defantly foul play going on in the stores and the war is getting nasty by a whole lot. i am thinking about suing because if my mom was waiting out there with the rest she should be entitled to her reservation am i right?
Absolutely Ridiculous! I would rather take my chance sleeping in front of a Best Buy. Sony and Gamestop are playing prison shower games with us. They should send at least 16 to each store for the amount of preorders they got. Bullsh*t.
yeah i am going to end up doing that no more reserves for me thats so much money they got from me like 300. So i am going to Best Buy i am preparing my gear now actually gonna get there early. This really sucks guys...
I just confirmed with Gamestop what I figured to be inevitable on the pre-order day: I was Customer # 7 out of 14, and that if they mysteriously cust the available units to half, I would still get one. That, my friends, is certainly the case. I went and payed for the rest of the preorder today so count on seeing this bad boy on ebay later on this week! *manical laugh*
