Burnout Paradise Party pack, new box set coming February 2009 |
Ó
Let's start things off with the DLC. If you remember, Criterion has announced that they plan to bring four new DLC packs for Burnout Paradise next year. They've finally unveiled the first one: Burnout Paradise Party.
This pack basically turns Burnout Paradise into an offline party game for up to eight people, complete with new Party Edition visuals and atmosphere. In Party mode, a randomly selected player is dropped into the game and tasked to complete a challenge. It's a pass-the-pad affair, so you need only one controller.
There are three challenge types: Stunt, Speed and Skill. Stunt covers the jumps and tricks prat of the game. Speed is for time trials and the like, while Skill challenges will have players driving through oncoming traffic and drifting their cars.
The Burnout Paradise Party pack also comes with new Trophies and Achievements. It'll be available for download come February 2009.
Also coming in February is Electronic Arts' Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and - for the first time ever - for PC. The box set will include a copy of Burnout Paradise, the Cagney and Bikes content updates, and the Party pack.
The box's PS3 version also features the Burnout Paradise Network. This is pretty much a replacement for the old Burnout Live News Page using the PlayStation browser for "upgraded news service, enhanced social play and much, much more". Criterion hasn't revealed everything about this PS3-exclusive feature yet, so keep checking back here for more details.

Oh won't ya please take me home.
BP FTW!
I love the amount of dedication Criterion is giving BP! No other developer out there is pumping as much content into their creations as BP!
"Stunt covers the jumps and tricks PRAT of the game." - Nice one lol!
Anyway, I love this game so much. For a non Platinum game, this is by far, the most value for money game I've ever bought. Absolutely love it :)
Not to start a flame war for those who are Burnout Paradise junkees, ... but don't you think that maybe (just maybe) they keep putting more into it because they know that they are the "Number Two" in open world racing. Don't get me wrong; it's great that they're doing this. But, if they would finally add-back the 2-player Traffic Attack mode from Burnout Revenge ... then maybe we'd be talking. Also, actual LAN support for 2-player link-up (or more) should have been there at the start (and it's still not).
Bp is in a completely different league to Midnight Club. The reason why there is no 2-player support for BP is that the game runs at 60fps and there is not a console alive that could render 2 cities at the same time at that speed.
And LAN is seen as impractical to them. only a minority of people have 2x PS3's/360's in their houses.
And how would they be number 2? BP came out way before MC:LA. So I hope you weren't referring to an older MC. Because there no way BP is 'second' to that.
I feel these things should have come out with the game. Although I am grateful and would like to see more of the goodies Criterion has to offer. Especially since this is only the first pack. ;)
This looks kewl, but I might pass.
On a side note, I enjoy having BP fully installed on my HDD. Fast install times always rock! I'm glad I waited to get it.
