Bug in PS3 Firmware 2.5: incompatible with Sony home theaters? |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: Australia, HDMI, home theatre, Projector, Sony
A bug was found in the latest firmware update for the PlayStation 3,
preventing it from displaying video on HDTV correctly on some
state-of-the-art home theaters. Not just any home theater system though, but Sony home theaters. "Ironic" just doesn't cut it anymore.
The bug was found by the guys at IGN, who reports that after installing firmware 2.50, video just blanked out on them:
We installed firmware 2.50 yesterday only to be greeted by a blank screen. [...] we discovered it was the Sony amp/receiver that was incompatible with the new firmware. We were able to get a picture again by cutting the Sony amp out of the loop and going straight into the projector.
For the record the IGN AU PS3 setup includes a 7.1 Sony amp/receiver supporting 1080p over HDMI and a 1080p Sony projector. The fact that the new firmware renders the PS3 unusable with this top-line Sony home theatre is utterly boggling.
On a related note, while trouble-shooting the problem we hooked the PS3 up to the projector via composite and also found that it's currently only displaying a black and white image over this video signal. These are both quite serious bugs to sneak through with the latest firmware.
They are currently waiting on Sony Australia for a response on the problem. Any of you guys experienced this bug?

I'm more apt to blame Sony's amp then their HDMI STANDARD implementation.
Maybe they screwed up their amp and kept building in a fix into the PS3. Then in this last update that fix was stripped.

anyway, i dont know if its related, probably not
but when i installed 2.5, the screen was black resetting the picture by holding down the power button didnt work
it required you to hold it turn it off hold it again, and just kept going with that, or something like that, anyway when it wasnt displaying the video i couldve sweared i was in the recovery menu, because you could hear button presses (you turned it on the same way) but it definately wasnt on the xmb (btw audio was optical out)

about no, waste money putting in a fix each time
plus its a update once fixed its only it would occur again although possible, not logical

select a PL (pro logic) environment
also 2.5 works fine
the HDMI is a passthrough meaning the amp doesnt process anything (meaning no upscaling)
*picture on maxconsole was of a muteki amp*

When you are going to learn? You clearly have no clue as to what you are talking about. I've proven that on many articles so far.
Now sit there quietly and wait for your alpha male to come along and sniff your butt like he usauly does. Where you at Mr. Douche?

...... This is what I posted Yesterday 20 Oct 2008....
"Has anyone notice that there is something wrong with the video setting with this new FW update. Every thing works fine, DVD , Blu-Ray works great and sound fantastic, except my Mpeg 2 and MP4 file, the play in black and white, I tried setting the video setting and nothing work. It's almost like play NTSC game on Pal machines."

blinking is a real pain in games and when watching video.
God this sucks. Sony ps3 and sony tv's seem to have real problems. I bought the 50inch sony thinking it would be the best for ps3. Seems like sony need to sort this problem, But probably don't know how to.
Pulling the cable and plugging it back in dose not fix it either. After spending £1200 on a tv to have these problems sucks big style.

all you have to so is change the frame rate of the video to 25 fps.
download this software: AVI frame rate changer if you cant find it type on google: change fram rate then click on the first one.
once you have got the software run it and browse for your file. then change the frame rate to 25fps.
if you dont know if it has been changed then you can check by right clicking the file then properties then summary then it will tell you the frame rate.
then transfer it to the ps3 then you can watch that video in COLOUR.
Mail me if you need any help with this. this is only temporary solution until sony fixes this problem
Thank You
