Buchert talks on indie game scene in PlayStation Network |
Ó
In a recent interview by PS3 Fanboy with Rusty Buchert, Senior Producer of SCEA's Santa Monica Studio, explains the growing indie game developer scene in the PlayStation Network. The indie games include such titles as flOw, Everyday Shooter, Go! Sports Ski and PAIN. Buchert explains that PSN's method of tracking down more games to offer its players is to go with the flow of the indie scene. Since the indie culture is to think outside the box, PSN takes the cue by not limiting its selections through conventional standards like genre, design and execution. Instead, PSN focuses on looking for games that are unique and enjoyable.
Aside from looking for games by themselves, indie game developers also come to them to present their games. While they found Everyday Shooter at GDS, it was thatgamecompany (flOw) that came to them. Of course, not every game makes the cut. Although PSN is making the effort to create the "Sundance Channel" of indie games on the PS3, they are still particular about the games they choose to offer their gamers.
PSN believes that one appeal for indie developers to choose PSN over other platforms is the direct assistance coming from Sony. Aside from offering dev kits, they also give other resources like tech and veteran developers.
