Brutal Legends still in limbo, blames Activision Blizzard

You may recall that several games, some very near completion, were dropped to make way for the Activision Blizzard merger. Among them where, Ghostbusters (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS) and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3).

Most of these games have since found new homes. Our last report on this topic found only three left dangling in the wind.
Today, there is only one left: Brutal Legend (PS3, Xbox 360) by Double Fine.

Double Fine is understandably upset, laying the blame squarely on Activision Blizzard for its current homeless status. They're claiming that besides breaking faith in the first place when they were dropped, Activision Blizzard is actually now blocking their attempts to find a new publisher.

There's no word as to why Activision Blizzard would be doing this though speculation abounds. It's even been suggested that perhaps Acti-Bliz feels threatened BL's going to pull some of their gamers off other rock-themed games like Guitar Hero.

In fairness, Brutal Legend does have some good music which include tracks from the likes of Black Sabbath. They seem to have a healthy sense of humor to keep the game light and fun. I suppose that has something to do with Tim Schafer, the game's creator and the mastermind behind Grim Fandango and Full Throttle.

I am admittedly rather doubtful of this game, but remember: I'm just an opinionated gamer, not a professional critic, so here's a peek at its video trailer in case you see something in there that I don't.

what do you mean by

"am admittedly rather doubtful of this game"

this game looks absolutely amazing.. It's a pearl which gaming really needs, something certainly do not make sense at all..

Ever played Psychonauts? - Double fine did that as well, and I must admit, that's one of the best/funny games I've played... I wouldn't be so hasty doubting them! :)

... really wanted to see this game released this year.

I'm disappointed that it keeps getting held back, then it gets the go-ahead, then we hear it's a no-go... this waffling to and fro is doing nothing good for my aging heart.

Psychonauts was arguably one of the best and most under appreciated games on the original Xbox. Look up the Zero Punctuation review of it.

It is sad that publishers can't take their heads out of the sand and provide us with truly clever and entertaining titles like the ones Double Fine makes. Nope, AB apparently just wants to just shovel out the next same old "AAA" titles with pretty graphics and plot holes you could sail the Titanic through.

Double Fine needs a good home! Come on, someone please adopt one of the few truly creative studios we have these days and publish Brutal Legend.
