thp8Excitement is really building up in the soon-to-be-released Tony Hawk's Project 8. Brian Bright, THP8's Project Director, says the old codes of Tony Hawk Pro Skater are now kaput, with the next generation of game systems taking over. Players anticipate largely for this new release to be "not another remake" of Underground or THAW. In fact, everyone is looking forward to more realism and not just another cartoonish version of this game.

Looks like the THPS makers have listened to the clamor. For this reason, Activision gives us a quick look-over on what's new in THP8. Bright says it's a gargantuan leap from the PS1-PS2 Tony Hawk games. The graphics are as detailed as any PS3 and Xbox 360 game deserves, especially the 3D scanned pro skaters. The old AM, PRO,and SICK levels are still there. And now it's driven by motion capture video, a "layered animation system that provides animations that dynamically react to the physics of the skater."

Other new features include:

  •  'Momentum' driven skater physics where carving bowls and bombing hills help you score more points
  • Cool, streaming environment with skate lines flowing in all directions
  • Rag Doll Bails with their own series of goals that you can easily control
  • Online Leaderboards for several goals in the game.
  • A new online game type called  'Walls'
  • Nail the Trick - revolutionary new mechanic that gives the gameplay a real twist

  • Well, if you loved the screenshots we showed, you'd probably fall for this game! We hate to preempt judgment, but the autumn schedule of release will bear witness to what Activision has been telling us all along. Meanwhile, let's hold on to our seats and, as what Bright says, "Stay tuned!"

people moan about THUG 1/2 and wasteland being rehashes, but I'm glad they milked the formula for so many great games.
