Apparently there was this report that is circulating around the internet that says that by doing certain things, backups of PS3 games are now bootable. The thing is, and we have to stress this, is that the method only boots up the backups, and doesn't run them. Here's a video of that discovery:
The method was discovered by a netizen that decides to go by the handle "hacked2123." Using a SELF (HDD formater) from the recent SDK leak, he was able to boot a PS3 backup, but not run it. Others have speculated that this may be so because a DVD-R was used as the medium of the backup and not a Blu-ray Disc Recordable.
Given that there has been a lot of progress in regards to tinkering with the PS3's system, a lot of folks hope that there will be more improvements in this matter. As always, we'll keep you updated as soon as word breaks. Stay tuned.

this sucks big time i was hoping the ps3 would not be used in this way i know it is inevitable but it sucks that piracy is gonna come to the ps3 ...i also own a psp and i know im hypocrytical in some respects cos my psp was hacked and raped by iso loaders etc etc but since the ps3 came out inow have got rid of the hacked firmware and replaced it with the original because I can now see the light of what is coming and without the money these things wont happen the same goes for the ps3 ..so please lets all stop this piracy lark and provide the developers the cash they so greatly deserve.
originally QJ was pspupdates and they were exactly like psp-hacks, providing news and even files on homebrew and piracy, it is only when they received complaints that they decided to be legit. Besides this is just news

tell me... all of you want a dreamcast of 600 dollars? a paperweight that u can only use it for multimedia? the ps3 lack of games now... because the ps3 isn't selling how the develpers wants for an exclusive... if u like the ps3... if u want your money buys the right console... keep away of the piracy... this is the last thing I wanted to hear in the ps3 and so soon... in the psp well yeah... but only for homebrew... but now I just use original firmware in both.. an it will be at that way... I'm just glad that the ps3 will do wonderful and amaizings updates to let people updates the console...
hey you fu(king fu(ktards, the DC didnt fail because of piracy. Any respectable amateur video game historian knows that. It failed for a plethora of reasons including the release of the PS2 and the fact that Sega was still supporting the Megadrive in some countries when the DC came out in JP/US. They had spread themselves to thin. Also, look at the XBOX and PS2. Did these consoles fail? No. Did they have ridiculously easy soft-mods for them? Yes. Any console manufacture will tell you that Piracy/Homebrew sells consoles. Look at the PSP. If it wasnt for homebrew and piracy it would of died a long time ago. So go ahead, ingest every piece of Corporate propaganda about the negative effects of piracy on the video game market, but know this, those same people are grinning every time ***** like this happens.
Also, Used game retailers (Gamestop) and rental joints (Blockbuster) hurt the industry way more than piracy. Tons of people are buying used games over new even on Day 1 and that in turns effects the developers. Overall 1 person could by a new game and with a used system 4 or 5 more who would of bought it now are giving there money to gamestop instead of the publisher.

This exploit won't even boot the damned game. Let alone from a hard drive - which would mean that you'd need a Blu-Ray burner.
...not to mention it only works in V1.0 - 1.1
This will not become widespread- especially considering 1.1 was the addition of the Playstation Store - they will miss out on a *****-ton of functionality.

Charging and up for a game that lasts 10 hrs is piracy!!!! If the developers charged less or in most cases made better quality games like resistance, Then I would say hell no to piracy. This system has been out for how long ? and yet still barely any good games? wtf is taking so long? This is the last time i'm buying a console on launch date!!!
as others have said, piracy sells consoles - FACT. The number of methods available to play PS2 backups is incredible but it's still the worlds biggest selling console.
Just a shame there's hardly any PS3 games to copy yet.
it's like the movies... but if they make a mega movie anyone needs to see it at the theaters.. not ripped at home.. maybe to not see it a game.. the developers need to focus in the gameplay that last... like I always said.. eyecandy isn't everything...

I think this will only help ps3 in europe, becouse i my self live in russia and average wage here is about 25000 rubles, and one game for ps3 cost about 1899 rubles.So in russia consoles that have the most cheap games wins.

this news is not new, this has been reported before but no video, its pretty much the same as the method on playing backup ps2 games on ps3 using the 3way switch that works on any ps3 firmware. and the author of that switch thing confirmed that the ps3 disc burned on dvd doesnt work, a burned BD has not yet been tested. BR recorders are getting cheaper and im still wondering why nobody has even tried playing a backup BD disc on ps3 when everything is accessible now, but pricey none the less.

The funny thing is the 360 has long been cracked BUT people would still rather buy a quality game than get a copy that is why the attachment rate is so high.
