Blondie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Police on Rock Band's 4/15 DLC |
Ó
What's in store for you from Harmonix' Rock Band (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii) on the week of April 15? A mix of punk rock/ new wave, some hard rock, and a mash up of the two, straight from the years of 1973 to 1980. Antsy to know who the featured bands for this week are? They are none other than Blondie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and The Police. The songs are available for US$ 1.99 (160 Microsoft Points) each, and can be picked up in a 3-song Classic Rock pack for US$ 5.49 (440 Microsoft Points).
For PS3 owners, you would be relieved to know that the PS Store is expected to be back up and running on Thursday, so you will definitely have access to these tracks, plus those DLCs you guys missed the past two weeks. Oh, sweet redemption!
Now, for those of you too young to remember these bands, much less these songs, here's but a few tidbits on them to help you decide if they could appeal to your younger tastes.
American band Blondie's single "Call Me" was released in February of 1980. This dance-rock song was used as the main theme of the film American Gigolo. Meanwhile, Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man" shows off their trademark Southern rock vibes in this track. Deftones actually made a cover of this and included it in their 2005 B-Sides & Rarities album. It was also included and featured in the 2000 über cool film, Almost Famous.
Last but definitely not least is "Message in a Bottle" by The Police. This one has enjoyed a multitude of remakes since its original release in 1979 so we're sure you young 'uns have at least heard of it one way or another. But some of the remakes done through the years range from Dave Matthews Band, No Doubt, Incubus, and Matisyahu, to name only the most recent few.
So there you have it. Do enjoy this week's DLC for Rock Band.
