Blitz Games not quite impressed by Unreal engine |

Epic Games' Unreal Engine is probably one of the most used game engine nowadays. 'Twas first introduced back in 1998 for the FPS title Unreal and since then, it has been utilized successfully in a wide array of genres including third-person stealth titles and MMOs. However, Blitz Games CEO Andrew Oliver, has an advice for everyone else saying otherwise."The Unreal engine and toolset is very good and is becoming the obvious choice for many developers, but it's certainly not the only choice," says Oliver. He further declares that these developers are making a very big mistake. When the price of any middleware software goes up a year later, the executive explains, developers won't be able to do a sequel because they can't afford it. "I saw this happening as EA were buying RenderWare," he remarks.
Finally, Oliver declares that Unreal Engine makes impressive demos and nothing more. And when ask to compare their software to that of Epic's, the CEO replied: "Our middleware does that, we just haven't got the flashy art demo because we're busy making games. They're not."

The unreal engine is one of the most easiest, popular, cost and time effective engines in use today, why try make an engine that is better, when to date it is one of the most advanced engines in use, spending time on develloping a new engine costs money, probably alot more than to buy the right just to use unreal's.
Anyways you can tell that they are very jealous, and that their engine doesent stand a chance, "Our middleware does that, we just haven't got the flashy art demo because we're busy making games. They're not." I wonder why almost every game publisher and develloper has or is in the process of using it to produce fabulous next-gen games such as Gears Of War...
Anyways i'm over this, they obviously arent,
Peace.

but just outright making epic and unreal as the sacred cow is more stupid.
I, for one enjoyed games that were on Source engine more than either unreal or doom 3 engine. It just looks more realistic.
The games feel totally different too.
While HL2 and CS:S and DOD:S feel like you're playing as a character, I felt that the experience you gain from playing unreal based games were "floating" or something.
Maybe it depends on people to people, but please don't do that.

The only great engine is the one you make exclusively for the kind of games your doing, that's all. So yeah blitz is right, the best for them is their own, always!

Of course they have 3 "Secret Projects" so maybe one of those is their big new engine.
I agree though, when making a game you should program your own engine to suit the needs of your game. Although Unreal/Source are very customizable, they were made with a certain type of game in mind, then they decided to sell it to people that wanted to adapt it. Unreal works great for UT, but would not work for HL2, and vice versa....
