BioShock PlayStation 3 dev: we won't change game's ending |

Looks like visuals aren't the only thing that will be exactly the same when BioShock gets translated for the PlayStation 3. According to the devs, they chose not to change the game's ending as well, despite criticism that it was rather limited. So as not to spoil it for those who haven't played it yet, suffice it to say that the game, which heavily explored the subject of free will, had a very limited number of possible endings which kinda defeated the purpose of the theme. Even the lead creator's Ken Levine once commented that the ending was flawed:
I underestimated, way underestimated, the impact the story was going to have on people Â… I didnÂ’t realize it would change peopleÂ’s perspective on what to expect from gameplay.
Not all players would feel that way of course, but there was enough criticism of it that the game's studio had something to say about their choice not to change it for the PS3 version. According to Melissa Miller, senior producer for the PS3 version:
When you get a chance to work on something that was really creative you get the temptation to re-do things. We chose not to. [...] We wanted to respect it. The things we wanted to add were things that would complement what was created.
Well, I guess this is a toss-up. A masterpiece with a flaw is still a masterpiece. Changing a masterpiece feels like a crime for me, even if it does "improve" it. It's like saying the Mona Lisa would have been better as a blonde.
While I respect their decision, I hope it wasn't made just so they won't upset those who played the PC and Xbox 360 versions, who might feel cheated out of extra endings. After all, they were willing to give the PlayStation 3 version exclusive content like the Ferris Wheel room, and re-animating the Little Sister.

It's like this "spectacular story" and then "erm end" - not satisfying... it ends it sure, but, sigh, just so not intune to how awesome the rest of the game was.
-It's prob good they don't alter it tho - it wouldnt be the same game. Now if they were to re-work an ending and offer it to all who played bioshock that would work.
