BioShock: BBFC rating hints at possible hard drive install for PlayStation 3

What's a gamer to do while waiting for Bioshock's expected arrival on PlayStation 3? For one, you might want to clear out some extra space on your console's hard drive.

A recent rating report from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) indicates that the PS3 version of 2K Games' underwater foray into Rapture may require an installation time of just over five minutes.

The BBFC made its decision based on a video compilation sent in by 2k Games that was 15 minutes and 34 seconds long. We've posted BBFC's breakdown of 2K's video here in case you want to read over it - the part hinting at the install time is emphasized with bold lettering:

We remind the readers that this speculation is still to be confirmed. That aside, previous PS3 games such as Metal Gear Solid 4 and Devil May Cry 4 did require similar installs before they could be played. While this caused some minor inconveniences at the start, the install ensures that the game would run with minimal load times when the action begins. If you're running low on HDD space, and have a game you don't play very often, just delete the BD install utility data and keep the game save, so that games you don't play that often get to keep the save, but if you finally decide to go back and play you just wait an extra 5 minutes for it to install. No big deal.

it's not really laziness. installs have benefits like better load times, smoother gameplay (no disk skipping to worry about) and ALOT less wear and tear on your system. You only need the disk usually for authentication purposes, or CG cutscenes which cuts pirate's excuses.

keep in mind M$ is adopting this system of games installs, only they are making it optional.

I have all 3 consoles and play them all so I'm not a fanboy.

Yeah. The installs don't take that long anyway, and it's kind of like installing a PC game or patching or something.
