Bionic Commando producer: on swinging mechanics, possible Wii version |
Ó
Considering that it's taken Bionic Commando nearly 20 years before a sequel was put into development, fans of the original platform game will have to be a little more patient as the developers from GRIN and Capcom try their best to create the next-gen sequel that everyone's been asking for.In an interview with Producer Benn Judd, VideoGamer.com was able to sit down with the man behind Bionic Commando and talk about the game's current progress and how they were able adapt Nathan Spencer (read: the hero) into this swinging new iteration of the series.
One of the biggest features that Judd described was the free-form swinging mechanism that made the original game so popular. The next-gen version uses very dynamic game physics where the player can actually feel in control as he swings Nathan through the different levels while blasting away with his weapon.
Judd even compared BC to other titles with similar game physics such as the Spiderman video game series. He noted a world of difference between Spiderman and BC, saying:
Unfortunately, they sacrificed any sort of user-based skill by making this choice. In Bionic Commando, not only can you shoot enemies while swinging, the base swing mechanic is also much more advanced.
The user feels in control, they can go where they want when they want to. However, swinging is skill based so you can't just button mash your way through levels. It truly does feel like the next evolution of the swing mechanic.
As for a Wii version for Bionic Commando, Judd mentions that it will depend on the fans mostly and whether the interest for a following on the Nintendo next-gen console is large enough.
Currently, Bionic Commando is slated to be released on the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. You can read up on the full interview by clicking on the Via link below.
