Bethesda's Peter Hines talks about possible Fallout 3 DLC - Image 1

Bethesda Softworks VP of Public Relations and Marketing Peter Hines was recently asked about the possibility of providing downloadable content to Fallout 3 when it's finally released on platforms PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on Autumn 2008.

The official's answer echoes his earlier responses to similar inquiries regarding Bethesda's approach towards making games. According to Peter Hines, they want to focus right now on the game itself because that is very crucial. He explained:

We had the same approach with Oblivion, which is if we f*** this up, nobody's going to want to download anything for it anyway. So let's focus on the first thing we're doing, get that absolutely right and then we'll have time for the other stuff.

Despite that, however, it seems that there's a very big possibility that Bethesda will be providing gamers with DLC once Fallout 3 comes out. Hines shared that developers don't throw in all content during the development stage. They also have to focus on polishing. Once the game is done and there's a chance to provide more, that is where DLC will come into play.

"Obviously you're not building content all the way up to release; at some point you stop. Every time you touch the game, you're breaking it so at some point you do stop on the content side and just focus on polishing and bug testing and so forth. At that point, it may be something our content folks start to look at," added Hines

» This is good....

focus on the actual game first...

It feels wrong when a company is talking about what type of downloadable content they will have before the game even ships. This means they are making concious efforts to leave out material so they can sell it later, instead of putting it in the game.

Devs shouldn't even THINK about DLC until a month after the game is released...
