Bethesda's Pete Hines: 'Fallout is a better game than Oblivion' |
Ó
Bethesda Softworks has always had a penchant for making good games and, luckily, the hype they put out often coincides with the quality of their release. That's why we're excited about this recent bit of hype Pete Hines has mentioned regarding their game. Simply put, he says Fallout 3 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC) is a better game than The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3).
Hines recently spoke to Videogamer.com at a roundtable interview in London, and it's there that he expressed his confidence in Fallout 3. Speaking about whether he thought Fallout 3's review scores would trump Oblivion's, Hines wouldn't make a definitive comment, but instead said,
I don't have any doubts that on the whole, and I think this is a belief universally shared on the team that Fallout is a better game. But we're also not oblivious to the fact that we have a lot of extra baggage that we're carrying, being the guys picking up this franchise, that are re-imagining this series from 10 years ago, and there's something that comes along with that. We're very well aware of what we're up against.
Hines further added, "I have no doubts in my mind that, at its core and for everything that it provides that Fallout is a better game than Oblivion was. For sure."
That said, this latest statement from Hines makes us want Fallout 3 even more. Calling Fallout 3 better than one of the most critically successful games in the industry certainly is saying a lot, but we're hoping Bethesda can pull off a good showing once the game comes out.

Bethesda keeps comparing Fallout to The Elder Scrolls...
Am I the only one that sees something wrong with that?
That's going to be one amazing game.
They are games of a totally different nature. Comparison on which is a better game isn't relevant in the least. It is a very cheap tactic to gain hype for their game. I think that it is an extremely weak form of advertising and if they had something to really show off then it would be gaining the credit through it's own channels.
"Calling Fallout 3 better than one of the most critically successful games in the industry "
are we forgetting how utterly buggy (and still buggy as there has been no updates to the game in years) oblivion 4 is and how dumbed down it is for consoles?
Fallout 3 is getting exclusive DLC on the 360 so just like GTA4, I won't bother playing this. Especially since they basically turned a RPG into a FPS (like Shadowrun which flopped). There may be little RPG elements but they tried to make into as much of a FPS as possible and I don't want any FPS in my RPGs. They pretty much screwed this one up from the beginning. I won't be playing this.
well it's sounding like the perfect blend of the best of both worlds to me.
i will be playing this
Where was 1, 2, and 3? There's Arenas, Morrowind, Daggerfall... I'd like to play the other 3 Oblivions...
Seriously though, it was buggy, yet it was still playable and is quite an accomplishment by today's standards for an RPG. I think it's still the best you can find for RPGs on PS3 and 360. Other than maybe Mass Effect. Though that was more linear.
I can see how Fallout can be compared though. They are trying to implement similar features in the game and keep it working steady.
I won't be buying this as well.
i have to agree that is pretty much what they did with oblivion. turned it into a FPS with RPG elements. while i have nothing against those kinds of games. anyone looking for something like morrowind or daggerfall will be disappointed.
you know what i meant. elder scrolls iv: oblivion. thats what i get for typing to fast lol
but anyways the game did have alot going for it. i just feel that it's an incomplete game and a disappointment compared to the first 3
