Bethesda asks sites to remove Fallout 3 trailers "in connection with ESRB guidelines"

Fallout 3
(PS3, Xbox 360, PC) is only a hours away from launch but it looks like the hound of censorship is still nipping at Bethesda's heels.

Bethesda marketing VP Pete Hines has just fired out an email asking gaming websites to take down trailers for the much-awaited post-apocalyptic RPG. Hines didn't give any specific reasons, saying only that the request is "in connection with ESRB's advertising guidelines":

In connection with ESRB's advertising guidelines, you are instructed to remove immediately any of our Fallout 3 trailers from your website, pending further notice.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Bethesda is also facing some backlash from Washington DC residents outraged by the game's ads, which according to one particularly vocal complainant is "a daily reminder that Washington is a prime target for an attack". Maybe this has something to do with it?

The marketing blitz for Fallout 3 has been going on for quite some time now, though, so even if the videos are taken down now I doubt it'll affect the game's sales that much.

I don't think that they could go that far even if they wanted to.

I agree though, it's getting kinda rediculous.

Reminds me of the FCC episode of Family Guy.
