Bethesda, Amazon to introduce Fallout 3 Survival Edition - Image 1

We hear from official press wire that Bethesda Softworks and shopping central mogul Amazon have agreed to push out a special limited edition of Fallout 3 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC), and alongside the Collector's Edition SKU will come the pricier and heavier Fallout 3 Survival Edition.

The new bundle is supposedly coming with a real-life imitation of the PIP-BOY 3000 wrist gizmo Vault folk wear in-game, in addition to the giveaways in the Collector's Edition:
  • The Fallout 3 game;
  • Customized, metal Vault-Tec lunch box;
  • 5” Vault Boy Bobblehead;
  • ‘The Art of Fallout 3Â’ hardcover book; and
  • ‘The Making of Fallout 3Â’ DVD
The wrist gadget is said to be life-size and was custom-crafted to serve as a fully functional digital wristwatch. It's this new toy that hiked the Fallout 3 Survival Edition's price to US$ 130 (US$ 129.99 for console, US$ 119.99 for PC), which will wring 50 dollars more from you than the Collector's Edition would (US$ 79.99 for consoles, US$ 69.99 for PC). The Survival Edition is to be exclusively sold on Amazon.

Fallout 3 is the Bethesda's attempt to revive the Interplay franchise into the legacy it was more than a decade ago, and it seems that they're definitely being ambitious in that department with this new retail stunt.

We're pretty sure the PIP-BOY 300 will see approval with many hardcore fans' tastes, but what about the game? We'll have to wait to find out.

Ouch...

If it's really only the watch commanding an extra $50 than all I have to say it ouch. I don't like spending that much on a watch when I get to pick it myself, much less taking what amounts to be (as of now) $50 gamble. It may seem like a better deal if/when we get a look at this thing, but all I can say is personally, for what you get for $130 it isn't worth it.

This was announced almost a year ago! This is really, really old news.
