Bethesda: 360, PC DLC for Fallout 3 to be huge; PS3 to get Trophies |
Ó
Pete Hines, Bethesda's Product Manager for Fallout 3 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) and VP of PR and Marketing, was answering fan-submitted questions live on Eurogamer today and it looks like there's gonna be quite a bit to look forward to in the months to come.
"Our focus is going to be on DLC," he said and revealed that they'll be working on additional content roughly of size and scope as Knights of the Nine was to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. He couldn't comment on exactly what we'll be getting but he did mention that it'll generally be along the lines of new quests, content, and enemies. "Nope, no drivable vehicles. Sorry," he added.
While the DLC is going to be huge, Hines notes that it's not going to be quite the size of the Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion. "That was a massive undertaking. With DLC of that size, you can do a variety of smaller things that stand alone and give the player a lot of different experiences," he explained.
Unfortunately, as you probably already know, we aren't going to be seeing any of this on the PS3 (so if any of you are still praying to Pinky, the rat-god, stop it. It's not going to work). Hines reaffirmed that downloadable content will be exclusive for the Xbox 360 and the PC only. On the upside, there will be Fallout 3 trophy support. Whoopie.
It's kinda upsetting that the PlayStation 3 generally seems to keep getting the short end of the stick (crappy ports, limited DLC, etc.) but with the PC and Xbox 360 being so alike, devs get two platforms for the price of one, more or less. You can hardly blame them for not bothering to spend time and money to adapt their programing for the Sony console. Then again, you might still just do that (and I'm sure many do).
On the Fallout 3 toolset for the PC he clarified that their intent was to allow players to have as much freedom to edit or change the game as they could. To use his own words, "We're not talking 'make a map" here. We're talking 'I downloaded this mod and it deleted 2/3rds of the game world and replaced it with mole rats.'"
As to when we might have our mole-rat armies, he couldn't say. He also couldn't comment on whether or not we'll be seeing the tool kit on the console versions anytime soon since that decision is up to the console manufacturers.

What lazy farking programmers! I CAN blame them for for not wanting to do PS3! I was going to buy Fallout 3 but no I guess I'm not. I wish other developers would go the route of Criterion Games and not only provide DLC for both systems but also provide it free.

I too think it's BS that DLC rarely makes it's way to the PS3, but the only way to convince biased developers to provide equal treatment is to purchase the game on your console of choice. I'll be buying Fallout 3 for the PS3, after they release a trophy patch.
While i fully endorse any attempt to make devs pay for lack of PS3 love, it'd be a shame for you to miss Fallout 3 which seems to shaping up really nicely.
The world's been waiting for this game for 10 years now.
I might have cared if Fallout 3 was a good game but it isn't. I knew the game would fail ever since Bethesda was behind it and they further prove it with the bug ridden mess that is oblivion with guns. They already are planning trophies & DLC but they don't patch their game. lol
Wow, trophies, there's an update.
Good job Sony for letting MS buy out another company for DLC, and another good job to the makers of FO3 for screwing the people that purchase your game for the PS3.
Frankly, on the topic of trophies, if the game doesn't come with them day one, don't bother making them at all. Its clear that you have no desire to care about your consumers.
Look I`m a ps3 fanboy as much as the next guy, but this is one game you want to get the pc version of and no other. The pc version pwns em all graphically and controls wise, as well as having the best load times out of all the versions. Its head and shoulders above the rest. Enough said.
I mean, I'm dissapointed that the PS3 version isn't getting DLC, but I'm even more dissapointed that it feels like I'm playing Morrowind with Guns because Bethesda decided to half-ass the porting to the PS3.
