Best Buy pic of PS3 40GB - Image 1The other week, we had confirmation of a 40GB PS3 unit for Europe. Unfortunately, Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) still hasn't made any official announcements about releasing the same SKU for North America.

However, as previously noted, industry insiders and retailers have been whispering about SCEA going around, telling people to clear their inventory to make way for the new 40GB unit on November 2. Now, it seems as if Best Buy's database already clocks in the fabled 40GB unit.

The picture on the right, posted on the PS Vault Blogspot, shows of the product listing for a "PS3 40GB SPIDER-". Since the description field isn't fully shown, we assume that this refers to a PS3 40GB bundled with a Spider-Man 3 game disc... or Blu-ray movie. *Shrug*

In any case, what we do want you guys to look at is what's being highlighted at the bottom of the picture. "In Stock Date: 10-28-2007." Nice. Which means that, if we're going to take this for truth, the 40GB units would come in to Best Buy by the 28th of this month. But when you're talking about the street date (i.e. release date), there's nothing to go by because the product listing has that field empty.

(As a side note, the Spider-Man 3 Blu-ray movie is to be released at the end of the month, which makes a PS3 Spider-man Bluray bundle all the more possible.)

The screenshot is pretty skimpy on details to confirm anything, so for now, we play the proverbial Rumor card on this. Let's just hope SCEA finally announces something real soon.

» WTF

With no street date they can sell them the instant they receive them!

» Hah!

Too bad the game and movie both blow. Why couldn't they bundle it with Heavenly Sword, or even Warhawk and a headset?
