Ben Heckendorn's PS360 Controller |
Ó
We still don't understand just how he does it, but he certainly does his modding very well. Over at his blog, Ben Heckendorn's been tinkering with more than just one controller these days, because he's managed to take a SIXAXIS, perform some elite controller pimping, and place all that into the sexy body of a 360 controller.
The controller has the all of the important PS3 controls (including the motion-sensing) inside the shell, with the controller's battery and charger taking the place of the 360's battery pack and "charge and play" port.
The device should presumably play like the SIXAXIS, but why not just let you watch a video to find out how well it works, right? Just watch out for the awesome red light of death he installed, alright? Enjoy the vid!

Video not playing (
The video was removed from youtube. We'll upload the video to our servers so you guys can just download it. Thanks.
This is is what you really call a 360: it's absolutely the OPPOSITE of what one would really desire. The 360 controller is trully the heavyweight uncomfortable pig of controllers (and that factory-provided double-AA battery compartment is so 1980!). Let's not forget the silly mis-alignment of the analog sticks (just so that they wouldn't get sued for copying Sony's design). ---But enough of my rant. I hadn't even thought of this before, but it would be Oh So Cool if someone figured out a way to get a PS3 controller to work wirelessly with the 360. I don't care about the 360's piddly use of vibration. I'll take the sleek, small, lightweight feel of the PS3 controller anyday.
lol that video crack me up real good
Actually, the 360 controller is pretty light and small, much smaller than the Xbox 1 controller in fact. The *misallignment* (should be disallignment) is really a ergonomical design which allows for much more comfortability in the thumb muscles during play. It has nothing to do with Sonys *design* (funny, since the controller design has been around for as long as double thumbstick controllers, about 20 years).
And just from a personal perspective, you shouldnt diss on a conrtoller when the one you praise is such a piece of garbage. From signal dropouts, to no vibration feature (so 1980!), you really have no room to talk.
And just from a personal perspective, you shouldnt diss on a conrtoller when the one you praise is such a piece of garbage
tell me how much you'll charge to make one for me
its funny that you have no sense or I.Q. the 360 controller has different positioned sticks to make easier aiming comfortability in shooters. i believe its sony trying to copy microsoft...want an example? -Guide button-
The reason the SIXAXIS doesn't have vibration is that it included the motion sensor; if you think about it the vibration would ***** up the motion of the controller and end up in weird input and bad controlling during the game.
As it is I think the vibration controller is less "next-gen" then the motion sensing one.
Still on the copying deal? lol..
Pretty cool mod shouldnt even be that hard.
As far as the 360 vs Ps3 controller, they both get whooped on by the response time of the mouse so neither is anything to brag about.
Ps3 hands down has better and faster input (this goes down to controller hardware) however 360's triggers are a lot better than sonys.
Then its rumble vs motion sensing.
To me both are useless but motion sensing is becoming atually useful.
Rumble as is now is a joke and always has been.
I hate the x360 controller :S I don't see why someone wants to mod the sixaxis :S anyway the playstation controller is the only one I love, surely because I played too much with it!
Exactly, people are comfortable with the PS3 controller. Thats why there was a total outrage when they showed a different controller.
The PS3 controller is a good-rounded design while the Xbox360 controller is really only good for shooters.
its a totally fake of the Gamecube Controller... :/ oh no, xbox360 got 2 more buttons, gc has faked it. bad time travelers!
How can a controller be only good for one thing, lol! You get used to a controller by playing with it, therefor if you played with it enough you would be good at any game with it (like me and my x360 controller). I feel a ps3 controller and go, this is garbage i can't use this i can't do anything with it the joysticks are much more sensitive for me. As for motion sensors, vibration who cares? Vibration I turn off anyway, motion sensors would just piss me off, besides you're better off without motion sensors because as some of you ps3 people probably already know, they don't always work!
Nintendo does motion sensing better, and I personally miss the rumble feature in the SIXAXIS. They took the same exact design of the PS2 and put a half-assed motion sensor in it, whats so next gen about that?
@~(Unregistered )
Uh ok, you took a sentence from damonous (Unregistered) and copied and pasted it, and? Unlike him/her, you didnt even give reasons why you concider it to be a garbage controller. Stay in school, kid!
ROFL @ the people saying the 360 controller is only good for shooters, talk about retarded logic.
Thats like saying the remote to your TV is only good for volume control.
Some of you people need to seriously invest in some common sense. Your fanboyism is rotting your brains.
i don't understand why people and fanboys are not stating the obvious: microsoft has had THREE XBOX CONTROLLERS. The big ass Duke model, then the "S" model, and now the 360 ontroller. Stop the Sony copied M$ rants because Playstation was in the console business FIRST. I think they know consoles better, and it still looks like Ninendo and Sony still share some ideas. where ws box when Sony and nintendo wee o-conspired to make a console when nintendo dropped out, resulting i the first playstation, in 95!!!!
You say sony copied the guide buttion, my digital cable remote has a "guide" buttton so whatt's your point? The dualshock analog button was replaed by another button. Why keep a button that's not used when you can press the "PS" and do it from the menu. (for PS2 games)
I don't have nything aginst the box but if you want to go the sony copied xbox route. who's been around longer?
I can't believe how pathetic people are on here, admit it, the PS3 controller is crap, the Xbox360 controller is better with DualShock for PS1/PS2 coming in VERY close. The PS3 controller feels too light and cheap, like it would break if it was dropped, not strong like all the other controllers. You fanboys really need to lighten up instead of slating other consoles.
they love our style....
I forgot to state the 2 different 360 controllers, wired and wireless.
that's Four.
Sony had the orignal without thumbsticks at all, then dualshock, and a pressure sensitive dualshock, now sixaxis. The best game console controllers started with nothing but buttons. hen a company comes out of nowhere and uses all of the standards that another company uses. Besides IMO, the original Xbox controller was not innovative as it looked like a Dreamcast controller.
so by your concept Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and all the likes are copycats of the first guitarist just because they werent the first person in the world to play a guitar? Give me a break!
I bet you also hold the belief that since the numbers on your TV remote go from 1-0 that they were just copying the telephone since it came first right? Moron.
In fact, if I used your incorrect rule of *copycats* I could easily say that Playstation 3 copies Atari 8600, right? After all, Atari did come before Playstation 3.
And obviously Sony doesnt know consoles better, or Xbox1 wouldnt have had superior software (NVidia), controls (precision), online (Live), audio (5.1 surround sound), graphics (basically any game on Xbox1 looks better than any ps2 game), and even a built in hard drive. But I digress, the past is past, and today we have 360, Wii, and PS3. Hmm, I wonder which one of those is in last place? lol
And just for the record, yes, PS3 DID copy MS guide button concept. Not only that, but after getting sued for STEALING another companies conceptual design of rumble they decided to clumbsily throw on a *motion sensor* at the last minute after seeing the Wiimote at an E3 convention. So not only did they STEAL rumble, they also COPIED microsofts guide (though the SIXAXIS guide doesnt have nearly as many features), AND nintendos motion sensing conrtol (and again, not nearly as well as the Wiimotes).
But why even waste my time trying to explain it to you? Youre obviously a sony fanboy. If you werent you would be able to see through all of the phonyness that is the Phony, I mean, Sony brand.
Anyways, hope you have fun watching bluray movies (since the ps3 only has like 2 games worth even playing) on that trojan horse you call a console. Im off to play some Live!
Awwww, how cute. The SIXAXIS got all dwessed up in the big boys cwothes. Maybe someone will buy it now, LOL!!!
Ok, so Xbox has had 4 controllers in its lifetime, and your point is? In actuallity its more like 2 concidering the S was just a smaller Duke, and the wired and wireless are the exact same design. The reason they released a wired controller was so you can play PC games with it, something you cant do with a wireless 360 due to unobtainable PC hardware. So whatever point you were trying to make about the Xbox having four controllers is quite moot.
Also, just curious to how old you are, like 12? One of the first controllers (the first was a wheel, and the 2nd is the one I am speaking of) was a joystick based controller. Not only that, but youre just stating more stolen facts from sony. The first PS1 controller didnt have joysticks, until they saw that the N64 had a joystick. Then later on in the Playstation controllers lifetime it found pressure sensitive triggers, which the Xbox 1 had before sony, yet another stolen property.
Funny that you say the Xbox controller was not innovative yet its concepts were later added to the ps2 and ps3 controllers.
lol youre so dumb man. i bet if someone loaded up a game right in front of you and started playing it you would shout out *hey, youre just moving the joysticks in time with a prerecorded video, thats fake*
Yeah, ok, buddy. He was just trying to follow what the car was doing, riiiight. Or MAYBE he was controlling the car with his controller!!! OMG what!? no way!
Copied from PSPs Home button.
Im a self ad,mitted sony fanboy but dude your just wrong the 360 came out before the PSP
you call somebody a fanboy!ha thats rich. of course the original XBOX was better it came out later you complete *****ing idiot. If you knew anything you'd also know that MS and Nintendo also got sued by Inversion but they paid straight away. You go play LIVE, just make sure you paid for it or else you're *****ed.
and the guy above me you honestly think that MS has created the most innovative controllers?***** off! God that is just retarded
Ash Just because something is lighter it doesn't mean it is weaker get it?
yeah its dressed up allright exactly like a Big Boy a Big Huge Heavy Gay boy BTW more sixaxis seel standalon then X360 controllers ask any retailer or look it up I use it for My PC ond it wonz best controller ever.....period
1) I think this is a multiple-section article.
2) The Wiimote seems to use some sort of pointer (like a laser but not quite) for aiming actions. Also, I think the Wii system senses the Wiimote's relation in placement to the sytem itself.
3) The Sixaxis seems to have tilt and thrust-sensing.
4) The 360 controller (sorry, they didn't seem to want a fancy name for it) has rumble.
5) Each controller was specifically made in its own unique way for the console it's meant to be made for (I like all of them, but I haven't gotten to try a Wiimote out yet).
"The xbox controller does indeed incorporate Sony's successful controller design. Furthermore, I would like to add that we actually pay royalties to license many many technological characteristics of the dualshock and ps3 controller designs as our controllers share similar designs. We attempted to design our own controller from the ground up but found that Sony has found a proven formula. Therefore, despite what is seemingly a different controller, the Xbox360 controller (and even the original Xbox 1 Controllers) at it's core, is based off of the first dual shock controller as well as the dual shock 2 controller. We saw no reason to incorporate motion sensing as the necessary api's are missing from the sdk's we sent out along with the fact that it would be too costly to upgrade the many sdk's already out in developers hands."

Microsoft Games VP
What the Heck (lol benheck.com)?!!!! Maybe it's just because he decided to play a different game to show exhibit his controller with, but:
The video starts out with showing that the PS3 is playing "Resistance: Fall of Man." Then, when he starts playing a game with the controller, it's not resistance! OMG!!!! Maybe he decided to switch games before the demonstration, or he just filmed one part of the video at a completely different time than the other part. I don't know....
I still believe that he made a working PS360 controller and has the ability to make more (Seriously, he made THE Xbox 360 AND Wii laptops!) Good job Ben!
The psp came out before the 360
Motion sensing actually does work with rumble. The reason Sony didn't include it was because they legally couldn't, Immersion sued Sony over the rumble, and won, so Sony couldn't put it in, so they lied and said that motion sensing would be disturbed by rumble. Now that Sony and Immersion have kissed and made up however, and they've even put force feedback into GT-HD it's safe to say that they'll be putting rumble back into their proprietary controllers soon. Btw, Nintendo has both motion sensing and rumble in their controller.
360 Controller with rumble is unique?
unique
adj.
1. Being the only one of its kind
the wii controller has rumble also.LOL xbox has NOTHING
Yes, I actually own both systems; which is why my point was that I might actually enjoy the 360 a little more if I could run the PS3 controller on it. The 360 is barely used by me, partially because of the honking-loud fan, partially because most games I have fall short of expectation, partially because the clumsy, heavy configuration of the controller. It is constantly on my mind as a cut-my-losses item to put up on eBay. By 'mis-alignment' I was referring to the staggered design of the sticks on the controller which really makes no logical design-sense if you really take a moment and think about it from an objective point of view.
You may know Sony most readily as the company that recently recalled something on the order of every laptop battery ever made because of a small glitch (they explode). Then there was the "rootkit" debacle, where Sony secretly installed hidden bull***** on your computer. One of Sony BMG's presidents handled the situation with the delicacy of a gang rape with this quote: "Most people, I think, don't even know what a rootkit is, so why should they care about it?" Good point, *****-head! And before that, Sony was known for its *****ty optical drives in their PS2s, resulting in a class action lawsuit. The word "*****ty" in the previous sentence is a bit misleading, since I also use the word to describe Renée Zellweger's life, and having to void your warranty by adjusting a cog to fix a misaligned laser inside your PS2 is slightly *****tier.
Not content with the reaming they give consumers with their shoddy products and condescending attitude, Sony determined that it didn't have enough bad press, so they decided to wield their giant gnarled ***** of corporate greed again, this time training it on a small-time import shop called "Lik Sang." Lik Sang was a haven for nerds who wanted to import games and systems from other countries. It turns out that Lik Sang broke some major laws that not only earned them the scorn of Sony, but pissed Sony off to the point where they sued Lik Sang into oblivion. So what was this grave infraction committed against Sony that not only threatened the very foundation of this giant multi-national corporation, but warranted destroying the lives and careers of a group of dorks running a gaming website? Simple: they committed the mortal sin of selling Japanese PSPs to European gamers. Oh no! Not that!
When I read the law suit, I did a double take to make sure I read it correctly. Sony is suing to prevent people from selling PSPs? Great move, morons! Because if there's anything Sony needs right now, it's fewer people buying PSPs. In fact, PSP sales are part of the reason Sony expects to lose $1.7 billion dollars in their gaming division by March. That means that I and anyone else who makes any money at all between now and March (or at least manages not to lose more than $1,699,999,999.99) will officially make more money than Sony's gaming division. I rule.
This isn't the first time Sony bullied a gaming website for selling PSP imports. In June of 2005, Sony sued a website called ElectricBirdLan d (Sony literally hired men in dark sunglasses to deliver the papers to the defendant, because Sony is insecure about the size of its *****), stating that the sale of Japanese PSPs to the UK could hurt their ability to exploit the "excitement and anticipation of the market." Hey Sony, you know what else could help you exploit the excitement and anticipation of the market? The PSP not sucking:
Sony's strategy towards portable gaming seems to be to take the same *****ty first generation Playstation games that weren't great to begin with, and make them portable so now we can take an example of Sony's utter-inability-to-stop-sucking with us everywhere we go. Nobody wants to buy movies in your stupid proprietary format, *****s!
So why does a company that relies on consumer satisfaction and brand recognition treat its fans with such contempt? Because...
Sony hates you.
Sony would love nothing more than to see you and your family suffer. Sony is like that psycho-ex who you had a few good times with, but was too clingy and the sex got boring. Now it's over and Sony is still stewing about it by leaving you voice mail asking for another chance and promising it "can change."
Tough ***** Sony. We've moved on. We're dating your younger, hotter sister, Wii. Even your fuglier step-sister, Xbox 360, looks hotter than you do. At least she's been around the block a few times and knows how to turn tricks. You've got nothing, and it's going to stay that way until you stop being a crabby old *****.
all you Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft fanboys should quit ur whining. What they did with the controller was pretty cool. It has nothing to do with who copy who or which controller is better. Damn you fanboys just blow things our of proportion.
Man was that video funny.
Cool modd, and by the way sony fanboys the 360 controller is better than the sixasses. LOL
lol These guys really knows how to having a go at themselves
I find it hard 2 write these words, I mean my fingers will barely touch the Keys. I cannot belive I'm getting sucked into an argument about a games controller, but since so many r airing there thoughts here I thought I'd give some of mine.
1st off if u play football (ISS Pro) or "soccer" 2 those who don't know then u should know th@ the beautiful game can only b played beautifuly on the PS pad. While I'm thinking all the XBots who talk about which game is better on which system, how do u feel knowing that the last ISS Pro game which was ur next gen exclusive was better on last gen's PS2?
Should we really call the PS2 last gen? I think it sells 1 or 2 units still if I'm right, 2 tell the truth I got my ps3 coming soon but not got 1 yet but I'm still cool with my PS2 like millions of people still are unlike XBox (may it rest in peace). U c wh@ u have 2 understand is most Sony fans r loyal 2 the console th@ has brought a lot of love over the years. M$ knew th@ they needed 2 get there console out b4 Sony if they were 2 break there dominance but 2 also f**k the XBox off so quick 2 get people 2 buy the 360, I would not b happy if Sony did the same, even if u can take ur games with u & I'm in the UK where we ONLY GET ABOUT 1000 PS2 games (don't know wh@ I'll do with my other 7000 games) th@ work as those greedy Baron's @ Sony only went & took the the PS2 chip out (which they did say they would do) u know so they might start 2 make a profit @ some point like.
Anyhoo back on topic 4 a mini, I'm 29 & was playing games with a 1 fire button joystick so used lots of different controllers & there is a reason Sony have kept there pad design the same on all there systems (can u guess why?)
its not about who done wh@ 1st but who does it best.
The Wii based itself around its controller & 4 this it's cool 4 a while but limited 2 wh@ type of games u can play.
PS3 is all about the console & SixAxis is getting used in a lot of games in a few different ways and can only get better use out of it as time goes on, "its a bit light" yeah but only till they drop rumble back in eh. Oh & those USB hole thingie's on the PS3 th@ can take mice & keyboard for FPSer's, Joystick 4 maybe a flight sorta game, stearing wheel 4 GT maybe so as well as the standard controller there's a lot of scope if u want it.
All I'll say bout M$ is they will come out with a Motion pad @ some point which of course will b great all the XBot's eyes eh?
Lastly 2 all the XBots who come on here, Mr Common Sense u make me laugh.Ur delivery is funny as f**k so u can stay but the other's 2 b honest if ur doing it 4 a laugh fine no prob's but if u feel the need 2 shout so much on a PS3 forum then u must guess th@ Sony's gonna b spanking M$ b4 the race is over (it should matter th@ all consoles do well tho imo) as it is the better product if a little expensive 4 the masses just yet.
My PS3 cost me only £180 with a mobile fone deal in the UK so I'm a little bit happy bout th@
Remember tho kids there's more 2 life than computer games!
The PS3 controller is made for kids with little hands that can only lift a few ounces. No kid can afford a PS3, so the design makes little sense.
"The PS3 controller is a good-rounded design while the Xbox360 controller is really only good for shooters."
another retarded statment that could only come from Vietone. 2 analog sticks, basically same buttons, why is this only for shooters? At least it has rumble, replaceable battery (rather than replaceable $50 controller,) and no drop out for 5 seconds interference!
You can admit you're jealous...
That's Vietone for ya!
"of course the original XBOX was better it came out later you complete *****ing idiot. "
Since the PS3 came out a full year later, you would think that would allow better games. The XBOX's launch games blew away the PS2's offerings at the time. The PS3 can't even match the 360's graphics, and the PS3 fanboys are trying to compare launch games between the two so they don't feel so cheated. Now that's denial!
that's great! It almost sounds like Mister Common Sense (the real one.)
is copied off Microsoft's Start button, which Xbox 360 has the right to copy.
Stop arguing! Why don's Sony fanboys go back to PS3 QJ and Xbox fanboys stay here and dont venture off there....
Everyone has their own tastes and decisions so BACK OFF EVERYONE.
Cool mod though.
1. You type like a 10 year old, so I cant honestly take anything youre saying seriously.
2. The SIXAXIS sucks, and its motion sensing is a gimmick.
3. The Dual Shock was better than the S or Duke, but the 360 controller is superior to the SIXAXIS (signal drop anyone? lol).
4. The 360 has USB ports as well and can use all of the accessories that youve mentioned. Moot arguement.
5. These topics are on both the PS3 board AND the 360 board, so 360 fans arent coming into the PS3 boards to shout. Maybe if you werent such a noob to this site you would have figured that out already.
6. Sorry to hear you bought a PS3, better luck next time!
What a stupid piece of *****.... and no im not talking about the controller...
The Nintendo 64 had an analog stick and rumble first on a console. The Dualshock added 2 analog sticks and 2 vibrator motors (which was stolen from Immersion.)
Does sony really deserve any credit for that?
but lol a lil spacing between ideas and not putting @ every were but thnx good thoughts
I've always thought the Playstation controller sucked. The analog sticks are pretty much right next to each other and its horrible for shooters, in my opinion, the 360 controller is much more ergonomic. I believe the x360 xontroller is the best controller ever made.ever.
