Bayonetta PS3 spotted with framerate issues

Reports are coming in that Platinum Games and Sega's Bayonetta (PS3 and Xbox 360) is running smoothly where it's supposed to run -- except on the PS3. At a recent demo held in Shinjuku Yodobashi, Japan, the game did not slice through the event as cleanly as expected.

A gamer allegedly observed that "The PS3 version has consistent framerate issues. It's just not as silky smooth as the 360 version." It would probably be easier to pass this statement up as one that's been made by an Xbox 360 fanboy, but several other outlets like Kotaku who test-drove the game also came to the same conclusion: there does appear to be some lag on the PS3 version visuals.

Bayonetta won't be out till January 2010 for North America and Europe, however. Maybe Sega can provide for a much-needed fix before then? Japan will probably have to get it via patch since it's out in their territory at the end of this month, though.

There's no excuse for this crap. It's not a game that I was looking forward to anyways.

» I'm glad that the articles about this being a port

by someone other than the core development team came out a couple weeks ago. That never leads to anything good and people should not spend money on this kind of crap.

We see this more and more. Instead of using the "power" of the PS3, we see multi platform titles snhine on Xbox360 and fail on PS3. FFXIII was my last hope but no more....

I bought an Xbox360 a year ago to fill the gap my PS3 has left me...

The PS3 is collecting dust since that. And it hurts. I always thought the PS3 would win. With games, that is, not with specs. But we all know now....it fails :(

» fails?

The PS3 is winning with top exclusives like MGS4, Killzone 2, Uncharted and many more to come :)

There are many games that look identical if not better on the ps3 as of late. Look at Arkham Asylum. Both games are identical. Even the ps3 version of GTAIV had fewer pop in texture issues than the 360 version. This is just a case of lazy developers. If small studios can make games that look great on both versions then why can't they?

The reason is that they rushed the game. I wouldn't mind a ps3 delay if it meant the game looked right.

» MGS4 and Killzone 2

Okay those were big games that everyone was soo excited about for the longest time. Delayed and delayed and delayed many times. When they finally arrived, Everyone got excited then it just fizzled away. I don't hear anyone still talking about them. You always hear about Halo (rolls eyes). I think MGS4 would still be more talked about if it actually had memorable GAME PLAY moments and not crap load of awesome cinemas... I dunno, personal thoughts...

FFXIII looks superb imo, and the previews I've read so far, even recently, says the game is looking incredible. Hence FFXIII doesn't suffer as many multi-format games do on the PS3, not least because development started on the PS3 (and before certain gamers cut in, no it wasn't toned down because of the 360 :-)).

Anyway the reason the PS3 version of games often suffers compared to the 360 version is because the PS3 is more difficult to program. So to get the best results, devs either have to start on the PS3 and then port over to the 360, or have two teams working on each version seperately. If, as many still do, they take the easier option and start on 360 and then try to port over to the PS3, then the PS3 version usually suffers.

Lastly, with all the great exclusive games out on the PS3, together with decent versions of multi-format games, I'm at a lost why your PS3 would be collecting dust to be honest.

I dunno about Killzone but I still keep hearing loads about MGS4. Even in stores I overhear people mention it when being asked what to get for PS3. I still don't have it though and it's those cutscenes that are putting me off.

I've not seen the Xbox360 have anything even remotely as impressive looking as Uncharted 2. And it helps that it's got fantastic gameplay too.

» Yup

Uncharted 2 will be a classic indeed. FFXIII just has lost my attention since it went multi platform. I hope the future will bring more good stuff. I just cant bare Microsoft's ego.

Your not playing the PS3 cause your 360 is hacked and your ps3 is not.

so...whens the demo comin out?

» really?

i dont know if there is any truth to that. last time i heard about halo was way back when the 3rd game came out. maybe a little bit more since odst but nothing major.

however, whenever someone talks about ps3 and what it has to offer, the first thing most people mention is killzone2 and msg4 along with other games of course but those 2 are definitely staples of the system.

I will start off by saying that I love both my 360 and my PS3, but honestly situations like this are completely Sony's fault. When a hardware developer is designing a system they should build the architecture of the system to be easy for developers to understand and take advantage of. Sony's attitude with the PS3 was screw the developers, they will figure out whatever we give them.

Unfortunately with the gaming industry seeing less and less exclusive titles and more developers going cross platform in an attempt to recoup the high cost of making a game it is hurting Sony. All the extra power under the hood of the PS3 often goes untapped because games are made for the 360 and ported since Microsoft actually cared about developers when they designed their console. Before I get flamed I will say that Sony has some really good exclusives coming out which I am excited about but volume wise they are nothing compared to the support of third parties.

I can understand Sony's arrogance to a certain extent when they were designing the PS3 because of the tremendous success of the PS2 but the last thing you want to do is have the system no one wants to program for. Next time around I hope that they are smart enough to consider the third party developers when designing the architecture of the console.
