Assassin's Creed to sneak into other consoles

The top-anticipated PS3 game (according to a Gamefly survey), Assassin's Creed, was never really confirmed if it was exclusive. Most people thought it was though, because when asked if it were to be ported to other consoles, developers kept mum about it. When a supposed leaked memo from Ubisoft said that the game will be out on multi-platforms, rumors about the game's exclusivity (or non-exclusivity) came rushing back in. Today, however, we got the final word about its status: Assassin's Creed will NOT be exclusive.

A representative for the publishers of PC Gamer UK magazine has already mentioned that a PC version of the game is in the works. However, one questions still remains and Ubisoft seems to be quite stealthy with giving answers for it: Will Assassin's Creed also sneak into Xbox 360? After all, it was initially announced for both the PS3 and Xbox 360. So what's with all the hush-hush?

Ubisoft is turning out to be more sneaky than their stealthy assassin when it comes revealing info about what specific platform they're releasing the game. But at least now, they've finally stepped out of the shadows and announced that it won't be exclusive. Le sigh...

The assassin choses which console to target...

Except Assassin's Creed was never announced as a PS3 exclusive Ivan.

A game is not exclusive until the developers/publishers say it is. Just announcing a game for one console is not enough (despite what gamers and reporters may say).

Hence the view of many that Assassin's Creed was not a PS3 exclusive.

» i thought

that it was coming out for both, when the game was first announced and then kept seeing that it was a ps3 exclusive.. that got me quite confused

» Timed Exclusive

Is my guess. PS3, then simultaneous 360 and PC sometime later. Or perhaps PS3, 360 then PC (like the GTA III series)

» Don't you think...

That they would mention X360 in that announcement?

Something tells me that X360 is left out.

Games like this don't play so well on PC anyway, controls for 3rd person action games just don't translate well to mouse + keyboard.

Oh and while we're on the subject of console "exclusives" being on PC, look at the X360's lineup. Oblivion, GRAW, LotR: Battle for Middle Earth 2, Prey - all on PC.

» With the cost-of-production...

...exclusives are becoming less and less likely.

What really matters is that it turns out to be a great game.

Which isn`t sure yet.

All we know is that the game LOOKS great.

» hmmmm.....

So who said that it is going to be on the PC?? cause no where on there does it say that Ubisoft came out and said it... it says someone from a UK Mag said it... Im still not sure about it...

Why would they need to mention a 360 version now? Up until now, certain gamers have been going on and on about this game being a PS3 exclusive (including yourself I believe), although Ubisoft never said it was, and now a PC version has been confirmed (but with no other details).

It's probably only a matter of time before a 360 version is announced. It's not 100% certain of course, but the confirmation of a PC version means a 360 version is much more likely to be true.

» SplinterCell plays well on my PC

So why shouldnt work this?

I bet the controls will be pretty much the same as SC

Don't compare this game to Splinter Cell, as I doubt they will have FPS in Assassin's Creed. It will most likely play more like Prince of Persia, which I didn't have too difficult of a time playing it on my PC.

» Exclusive

Interesting and very interesting.

Seems that people are getting the whole exclusive thing mixed up.

Over on the Xbox360 site, there have been games that are "exclusive" to the Xbox360 even though it will be on PC as well.

So i guess if its on the PC and PS3 its not a PS3 exclusive?

Its doubtful that the game will come to the Xbox360. Its alot of work to port the game and the "fact" being that the game may use some features on the PS3 that the Xbox360 just doesnt have. Same way some games look better on Nvidia GPUs and some are better on ATI GPUs on alot of PC games because they were designed to use those extra GPU features.

>>"So i guess if its on the PC and PS3 its not a PS3 exclusive?"

If AC is on PC and PS3 only, then it will be a console exclusive. However, the key word here is exclusive, and no game is exclusive until it is announced to be exclusive. So far, AC has announced for the PS3, it has now been announced for the PC, but it has never been announced as exclusive.

>>"Its alot of work to port the game and the "fact" being that the game may use some features on the PS3 that the Xbox360 just doesnt have."

If the game is in developement for the 360, then it wouldn't be a port, just as the PC and PS3 versions are not ports of each other. In otherwords, multi-platform games are not ports when in joined developement. If the PS3 is finished, or nearly finished, and the code and assetts from the game are THEN used to create a 360 version, then it will be a port.

With a PC version in developement, a 360 version will not be a problem, because even if we're later told the PS3 version fills a Blu-ray disc, the PC version will still be distributed on DVD9 and installed onto the PC's HDD. I doubt the developers will expect PC gamers to set aside say 20GB of HDD space just for one game, and so if they can produce a PC version, they can produce a 360 version.

We'll see.
