Altair, the main character in Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed - Image 1For whatever reason people might derive about its success, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) has surpassed sales expectations and currently ranks as one of the top-selling PlayStation 3 software titles to date.

Aside from that, the game also proudly bears the title of being the fastest-selling new video game IP in North America.

Ubisoft, on the other hand, is now the happy recipient of a three to five million unit boost in sales for the 2007-2008 time frame, thanks to the 2.5 million units the game has already sold for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Yves Guillemot, Chief Executive Officer of Ubisoft, stated:

These regular-sequel franchises are a source of very high profitability both in the short and long term. Drawing on its strong internal development capacities, Ubisoft is currently in an ideal position to continue to develop numerous new creations - an essential condition for winning market share and ensuring strong growth going forward.

As the company moves into a new fiscal year, Ubisoft estimates that it will achieve approximately 975 million Euro (US$ 1.43 billion) in sales due to its upcoming titles to be launched next year, which include Tom Clancy's EndWar (Xbox 360, PS3), seven franchises including Brothers in Arms, Far Cry 2, and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, and new games in the Imagine, Petz, and MyCoach series.

This game brought alot of new things to the table. So I am not too upset that it reached 2.5 mil. this fast. The fact that it's multi-platform obviousley has to do with this.

» I totally agree

... this game was very innovative with the gameplay and despite a lot of negative reviews that I didn't agree with (cough QJ) I have had a great time playing it. No glitches or framerate issues yet and many many many hours in.

...and yeah, being multiplat helped alot when one platform is seriously lacking quality titles
