Asmussen: If we are to release chopped out God of War III portion as DLC, it'll be for free

godofwar3Here's definitely something to look forward to, if in case it does push through. God of War III director, Stig Asmussen, revealed in a podcast that if the GoW III ending does come back as DLC, it's gonna come free.

This ending he's talking about happens to be a portion of the game that had to be trimmed out. Stig offered some details - without revealing too much - such as that the game originally had many Titan encounters, but the development team almost got overwhelmed with the amount of things to be done and the amount of time required to get it done.

Said Stig in Kotaku's Talk Radio podcast:

"There was a pretty large thing that we chopped from the ending that I had regrets about, but then something we added at the end that helps make up for it a little bit, and helps make it more personal.

We had titan encounters in the game, we had a pretty big one planed for the end and we got pretty far with it it, but it was just one of those deals where we just had so much."

On the DLC, "[It] might be something we might think about getting out there someday. The pieces are in place, the idea is written. If it's something we put out there it would be something that would be free."

That would certainly be good news.

Sony Franchises are all about the gaming community and it's people. Microsoft on the other hand is all about gaining marketshare and making money. This kind of proves it. I know there are Killzone DLC and Uncharted DLC that are paid but to me they are a second party developer and they don't have as much as bank as Sony does to continue supporting a game and not get any money out of it.

There are plenty of exceptions to that rule, but yeah. It does seem like Sony actually considers what their consumers want to some degree (not sure what they were thinking with the psp go, though) more often than Ms does. I still can't wrap my head around how Ms keeps Xbox in business at all. My boss used to get after us when we'd get close to a 10% failure rate on installs (installing cable) and he'd say, "Name one company that could stay in business with that kind of failure rate." I said "Xbox." He didn't really have a comeback for that.

Just to clarify, I don't think of myself as a fanboy. I had a ps2 and an xbox and my xbox got more play, but the 360 is a freakin' disaster, so I'm a one console guy now.

sony were thinking about security, think about it.
game gets exploited, sony pulls and patches it, ups firmware to 6.30. so now a 6.20HEN cant access PSN. you cant buy games.
game exploits are useless for PSP Go owners, thats why the devs keep such exploits to themselves, to keep sony in the dark about what game it is, so when a new firmware comes out, they have the tools to dump it.

360 was not a disaster. There is no question it had the better games in the first few years of the console war.

Unfortunately its potential peaked very early and now it has nothing and PS3 is still going strong.

that my friend was due to the year head start. lol.

but yeah it is nice to see proper usage of DLC for once maybe we should start supporting these guys more rather than those that have shamed the gaming community(capco m, microsoft, activision, 2k marin, lionhead)

this is nice, a company actually willing to give additional content for free, and the quality of GOW at that

what if it's not non sense because i know for a fact owning both that 360 is a disaster. its interface is all over the place, over 50% failure rate... if thats fanboy talk then billgates is broke & 360 only sold a 3rd of what it sold up till now knowing the average 360 owner is on theyre third console & the Uncharted statement needs to go because they gave a whole map free in a update its called "Fort" & the deals on the maps are good as usual & Killzone isnt making u pay more then usual & alot of map packs from SCE become free over time

Now that's good ethic. Too bad some other companies like to push deliberate cut content as paid DLC(I'm looking at you Capcom).

Many companies post about gamer demand for DLC. That is complete BS. What gamers really want is what they paid for. Stripping out content so it can be placed into DLC is dirty and low down.

When I hear about a company bragging about releasing paid content DLC a week or two after the release of a game my immediate reaction is wait for the special edition that the greedy publisher will release in a years time.

Rockstar gets a pass because their DLC is the equiv of an entirely new freaking game. These other companies are just greedy.

At least one developer is thinking of great gaming instead of money :sigh: . 2K developers should really take a hint from this. Now about that Sinclair Solutions pack... :-*

currently the top two companies on my list of good fairness is Capcom and Naughty Dogg both giving out free DLC's... but Ubisoft for charging the DLC for assassins creed 2 and that for taking those stages out of the game lol..greedy bastrds
