Armored Core 4 for the PS3 - and Only the PS3?

Armored Core 4 ScreenshotRecent reports have surfaced that FromSoftware has cancelled the Xbox 360 version of Armored Core 4, based on translations of an announcement from their Japanese website. It would have been the first appearance of the series on the Xbox family - let alone a non-Sony system. Which leads to the most obvious question: not a simple "Why?" but a heart-wrenching "Why, oh, why? (Various expletives optional, but not uttered due to ESRB restrictions)."

These reports cite two reasons, allegedly coming from FromSoftware CEO Naotoshi Zin:
  • New contract with Sony making the game a PS3 exclusive. "Why, oh why, oh (ESRB-censored) why?" Makes it easier to produce Armored Core animated movie through Sony Entertainment.
  • The 360 version would be too complex to develop - and this despite them having the 360 devkits available in their labs for almost a year now.
Some would point out that there might be something fishy about the second reason, because From, along with Sega (which is also localizing Armored Core 4 for the North American and European markets), also did Chromehounds. Unless there are elements to Armored Core beyond that already seen in Chromehounds.

It may not feel right, even to us, and right now we're hitting every search engine to seek confirmation of this report. As of now though, pending any future updates or rebuttals to this report, Armored Core 4 is a PS3 exclusive. It's scheduled for launch at the same time as the PS3 launch, or soon after.

» Cool.

Am I First?

Anyway, I hope they finally make a GOOD Armored Core Game. I've always loved the customization stuff, but the actual gameplay has been spotty since the third game. Let's hope they do the right thing this time...

» i hope its plays good

it is strange that it would not come to the 360 since all 3rd party games today seem to be going multi platform

by Figboy - 2006-09-03 18:15
» i swear

when a previously exclusive PS3 title is announced as multi-platform, people jump on Sony's case for not having the title exclusive any longer.

now, a title is rumored at being exclusive, and the media is painting it as Sony being an evil corporation trying to use it's bulk to bully companies into exclusive contracts ("if this title isn't PS3 exclusive, then we won't produce your movie! nyah ah ah!" *twirls mustache*.

much like death in comic books, exclusive doesn't mean exclusive in the world of video games.

chances are we'll see an Armored Core title of some sort on the 360.

» I bet this is totally true

I bet this is totally true for tons of reasons and only why "it can be on PS3" lol and I bet Sony does want to keep this for PS3 only.

The game looks really cool and if there can be at least 40 to mroe players online in huge maps with building and street, cars, and lots of stuff blowing up and breaking like windows... this game will really own.

From the videos I had seen I bet there gonna be alot of cool guns and rockets and stuff, lol. It looks fun if they do online right, lol.

But I bet they wont say this is for PS3 only until some days be4 tgs or at tgs more likely I think, lol.

» Good to hear

Love it when theres some good PS3 news and people cry about it -_-" Anyway it's nice to hear that AC4 is PS3 only. I absolutely love the customisation of the AC series, and if it gets a good multiplayer component this go around its gonna be absolutely sweet.

Btw #6, care to elaborate on why AC blows? Imo its the best giant robot series ever.

» Dont Know

I dont know, if they DID signed a contract with sony to make it exclusive then I guess it could be true.

Like #4 I also was unaware that it was suppose to come to 360. Lol

» Good news

That's good to know, AC4 being a sony exclusive will help ps3 sales more, and more reason to get a ps3. for some reason, it didn't surprise me that it won't end up on the 360

by hush404 - 2006-09-04 02:33
» lol

Awesome! They can now concentrate on making the game awesome!

by lawl - 2006-09-04 03:00
» x360 does poorly in japan

of course they won't make an x360 version. It would cost a lot of money and almost no one over there has an x360.

» fanboy?

what is this guy (the writer) a 360 fanboy?

by unregistered - 2006-09-04 03:59
» hahah

i'm sure there will be a 360 version cause PS3 just can't keep their exclusive games !! And since the PS3 is NOT more powerfull than 360, graphics on both machine will look the same ! :) Fight night seems to looks better on PS3 but i'm probably sure it's because they had more time to work on it....

PS3 is mor powerful then the 360, in a couple of years this will show. But for now most games will look similar.

by SteveTao - 2006-09-04 07:19
» Let's See...

The 2nd reason must be true: It's too complicated to develop it for the 360. We all know that the PS3 is more powerful than the 360. Fight Night Round 3 clearly shows that. And that wasn't due to more development time. Just take a look at the E3 2005 demo that the EA guy was playing on stage. Even back than in 2005, that still look way better than the 360 version.

by >>14 - 2006-09-04 18:11
» lol

lol I'm sorry, but you are a moron. It's obvious that the PS3 is more powerful then the 360. You might not be able to tell the difference by the graphics, but it is somewhat more powerful. Plus with the Blu-ray discs, it gives the PS3 a huge advantage as developers can do as much as they want with the game without having to worry about the space.

by Dwingvatt - 2006-09-12 03:57
» Already debunked, so might as well remove the article.

This has already been proven false. The rumor started by some random moron augmenting the wikipedia page for the game and saying it was confirmed from the official site via the company CEO. That CEO's supposed quote doesn't exist anywhere on any FROM websites nor is there any mention anywhere on said sites of the game being PS3 exclusive nor it getting canceled for 360. The 360 has never had a date as of yet, that is what prompted the idiot to do this I'd bet. He assumed he could get away with it and fool the less-than-reputable sites out there. Apparently it worked.

by Fang - 2006-09-12 04:03
» Those who are saying the PS3 is more powerful than the 360

You Sony fanboys are morons. The PS3 and 360 are on equal terms. One is not more powerful than the other. Matter of fact the Xbox 360 has a more powerful GPU than the PS3. As for the idiot that is using FN3 as an example, well the game is coming out a whole year after the Xbox 360 version. I assume they would use that time to add stuff they couldn't in order to rush the game out. How about we wait until until they are on equal terms with FN4, then we can judge. Also how come there are no games out there on the PS3 that looks better than 360 games? why does Lost Planet look better than DMC4 and they both are from the same Capcom.

You morons are idiots that have no logical thinking whatsoever and are buying SOny hype. LOL idiots.
