The Tekken series, before it even appeared on our beloved consoles, started out on arcade machines almost 15 years ago. So it is only logical that Namco Bandai will also have an arcade version for Tekken 6, aside from the PlayStation 3 (PS3) exclusive version and probably the Xbox 360 one.

What's amazing about the new video game's arcade version is that it is actually the first arcade game that will be using Cell, the same chip that powers Sony's PS3. According to Namco Bandai spokesperson Miki Baba,

Tekken 6 will be available for amusement parks and other game arcade facilities worldwide, but the company has not decided on the exact launch date for that game or others that will follow, using Sony's latest game technology.

In case you are not aware, Namco Bandai is quite famous for this as it also used the PlayStation 2 (PS2) technology for doing arcade versions of video games Ridge Racer and even monster munching yellow mouth, Pac-Man. It eventually sold the technology to another publisher. To this, Baba commented, "[Namco Bandai] is still undecided about whether to sell its PS3 cell-based technology."

» Wonder why they'd choose to use the Cell

Interesting...

» The Hell?

Why does this article keep saying it's coming for the 360?

It's not.

Jesus, QJ really needs some new bloggers. The current ones are just silly.

» My guess

is if it does come out on a cell based board... the XBOX360 version's going to suck.. that is if it even does come out for 360. Right now I'm skeptical.

I'm a Sony fanboy, but honestly Tekken is the only game I'd like to go multiplatform... more people to beat :). And I can imagine the XBOX players would be much easier to beat then the PS players who have experience in the game.

» ??

when did tekken 6 go to 360?

by HAXorz - 2007-03-26 07:50
» erm...

if theyre using the cell processor for the arcade version then doesnt that effectively rule out a 360 port??

I think they just want a flame war.

Obviously not everyone feels the steep learning curve of the cell processor is enough to warrant its use.

I am very interested in how the cell's multicore (yet operating singularly) can change some games.

wow this blogger sure is a fanboy.... not a very good bloggers.... its not coming to the 360 there has been no official plans as of yet so they should get their minds right and write usefull/ true information

» You're assuming...

Do you think that because one person plays xbox it means that they don't play playstation? You really think that 360 owner of a game is going to be inferior in skills because they apparently haven't seen or played the other games to hell on other systems?

by Kristian - 2007-03-26 08:04
» Not at all...

Just because a game is written to take advantage of multiple cores doesn't mean that operations sent to seperate cores can be optimized for a single core processor. More over, it doesn't mean that the game in question will even be worse on the single core system. But, if as little money as possible was put into producing the cross platform title - then the lack of money could mean poor optimization and a more poor quality of title for the other systems.

This doesn't rule out anything.

and read about the rumors. we're just reporting the things we gather. we're informing you, that's all. we didn't say anything about confirmation or whatsoever. just rumors, that's all. thank you.

» Maybe

this might be a project taken up by Cellius. It would explain why they would put a Cell inside an arcade machine. I would think that if they were making this game for 360 also, then they would go ahead and use an architecture similar to that. It would be cheaper.

yea buts those rumors have yet to be denied or confirmed, and the way it was state "Namco Bandai will also have an arcade version for Tekken 6, aside from the PlayStation 3 (PS3) exclusive version and probably the Xbox 360 one." Thats not posting news... Thats posting an opinion based on rumors.

» Just Look At Soul Calibur II

I hope they make a new Soul Calibur soon. I love those games.

by Mleep - 2007-03-27 20:03
» Hmm

Well Soul Calibur did badly for Xbox, and Tekken would actually havcve direct competition from DOA, so who know. But I would like it to come out on Xbox as well. But that is if we could all play eachother online. PS3 gamers and X360 gamers. But I dont think thats likely, right?
