Analysts think Sony has tough times ahead |

You know what, analysts could talk all they want but gamers will always have their preferred systems. And we know PS3 loyalists are sometimes hurt by what these guys say, but we reckon we have to keep you updated. After all, it is never a good thing to be left out in the dark, right?According to Japanese analyst group Nomura Securities, Sony Corporation will only achieve 75% of its fiscal year target sales for the PlayStation 3. A couple of months ago, Sony itself lowered its financial forecast for 2006. So this probably wouldn't sound so new to them.
Nomura Securities also stated that PS3 sales will reach 4.5 million by the end of March 2007. The original forecast of the group though was at 6 million. The group might have also revealed its own leanings as Nomura Securities also lowered its expectations for the next few fiscal years. Analysts mentioned that around March 2009, the total number of PS3 units sold will just be around 11 million - 8 million units lower than the group's original estimates.
On the other hand, some of the industry players have always maintained that this is just a temporary setback for Sony and that the PS3 will eventually emerge victorious.

Sony ain't made of money lol. Well, you can argue that, but anyways, point is that they're already losing close to $300 on each Console sold. They will not drop the price anytime soon.
Of course I would expect the PS3 to drop sometime in 2007.
All they have to do is sell Blu-ray movies and games to make up for it.
Its nothing new that the PS3 has succeeded in pushing Blu-ray on the same level if not higher then HD DVD. Anyone with a PS3 and a HDTV who can take advantage of Blu-ray, eventually will because one you watch movies in HD, those old DVDs just seem sub-par.
Then the games coming out in the next couple months will drive the PS3 sales higher. And by the Holiday season, there will be plenty of games to justify the purchase of a PS3 and movies that will be released at that time as well.
For a company who has scored 100+ Million twice, it wont be hard for them to do the same.
For Microsoft, who sold 24 Million, and the sales of the Xbox360 were not as impressive as the original Xbox, getting to 100 million is impossible.
For the Wii, Nintendo has shown that a cheap console and unique games is working. The only problem is that the appeal is like the DS which has sold nearly 27 Million, So i suspect that the Wii will be able to put forth an epic battle with Microsoft for 2nd place.

im thinking that SONY will do a price cut around september or october.
also another good strategy for SONY is if to include RESISTANCE as a free bundle game in case they don't want to do a price cut.
and when HALO 3 is about to release in the US, they should release Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy XIII or White Knight Story like two weeks early with the price cut that i mentioned above. Then release Kill Zone 2 five days early than HALO 3. then follow up with the announcement of Final Fantasy 7 Remake...this will make any gamer think twice in buying a XBOX 360 hehe.

Vietone I also find it weird that you have this problem with the 360 as well, you fail to mention that new PC games will NOT run on PS3 or 360 as they do not have the power and yet you seem to just attack M$, the strangest thing of all is that you feel you need to get the Wii owners on your side,give it up and play with the console you own(be it an expensive mistake or not) if the games are good then don't worry about the sales of other consoles as they will sell themselves.
I think you will find everything you have said there M$ are able to counter and would make make it redundant.

3 months since the release date it has sold 1.5 Million and the Europe release hasn't even started.

The Xbox360 is doing poorly. Look at the numbers of the original Xbox compared to the Xbox360. in the same amount of time, the Xbox360 has failed to come close or surpass the xbox sales.
The hype of the Xbox360 did not live up to its sales.
Then look at the PS3, in the same amount of time, it has surpassed the PS2 sales which surpassed the PS1 sales. So ultimately, the PS3 is doing very well comparable to previous consoles.
Then look at the Wii, it now holds the most sales for launch for any console. It completely puts the GC in its shadow. But the problem plaguing the Wii is the same that the DS has, is that not everyone will find the unique controls attractive.
So by looking at the analysis, Sony and Nintendo are looking to do just as well if not better then the previous consoles. Microsoft is failing to out do the original Xbox.
I don't know why you are so infamous in these forums, but I agree with you 99%. I want to like Microsoft, but everything they put out is so uncool. It's like they are sitting on a table discussing what's cool and putting it out for the consumer. The results seem so forced.
Nintendo and Sony are just focused on different things. Sony wants to give you more. More games, more value, more hardware. Nintendo wants to keep you entertained, so you keep coming back. They make fun games.
I'm sorry, but the only thing the Xbox has on its favor are Shooters. Only people who like shooters buy the Xbox. Sport games are good on the Xbox, but they are usually multi-console.

everybodies talking about what console will win, but it seems that nobody wants to actually support their system. Im behind sony all the way. Ive got a ps1,2, p, and 3. I also got about 10 people to buy ps3's. if sony fails thats 10 people that will kill me. I hope that the sony fans pull it together and support playstation. there are about 100mil playstation owners out there, atleast half of them can get a ps3. Im also tired of everyone talking about ps3 losing to the wii in japan, because ps3 out sold the 360 in japan and the 360 had a year headstart, but nobody wants to talk about that!!!!

Firstly, the PS3 surpased PS2 US sales. It most certainly didn't surpased PS2 sales in Japan since so few PS3 consoles were available there.
The PS2 suffered shortages in the US, and therefore the PS3 exceeding PS2 US sales is not a surprise (or shipped units to be exact).

Should have said analysts have reduced their forecasts, not Sony (one says 'only' 11 million PS3s by March 2009).
PS3 sales are far below Sony's pre-launch predictions.
I don't know anything about a console called the 180 but I do know that a game called Crysis has been confirmed it will will NOT run on the 360 or PS3.

Sony are taking a huge loss because of 2 PS3 components that aren't gaming friendly. Cell processor + Blu-Ray drive. Because sony had a 100 million console market share they decided to push these 2 technologies so they could profit from both of them outside to the gaming division. Considering nether of these technologies have give the PS3 dramatic gaming edge over the 360, and the system costs a lot more, I think it was a bad choice.
When the Xbox 1 come out the games instantly looked better then the PS2. Currently, 360 look as good if not better then PS3 cross platform games, and perform better (less framerate issuses) as well.
The console is expensive, and has managed to reach a price point that most gamers (Even hardcore gamers) wont pay. What's worse is that the console has nothing good to offer at this time. Very poor range of games and very poor range of Blu-Ray movies for the player. It's not going to look any good in stores until atleast 4 or 5 must have games appear. Grand Turismo is definitely going to help in 2008.
But the 360 is going to have a 25 million+ install base by then. And if IPTV takes off and IPTV distributors start including a 360 in your IPTV contract, expect MS break sony's 100 million unit mark by 2010.
The 360 and the Wii are good for value consoles for what you get. The PS3 isn't, but it might be in a years time. Lets hope sony doesn't go totally balls up, because competition in the console arena is needed. It's the main reason we have 2 very good consoles out now, and 1 product that could be good if the software developers can save it, and the PS3 engineers can work miracles on the bugs and OS.
The 360 is currently out performing the PS3 in the graphics, games and online aspects, while the Wii is a hit with new and existing gamers, kids + families. I recommend anyone looking for next gen gaming to have a look at either of these systems. With the PS3 it's more of a wait and see. Talk is cheap, lets see some games.
I honestly believe sony is going to take mass hit on their install base this generation. Trying to take advantage of your install base by including non gaming components at an expensive price was a stupid idea.
If sony wins the next generation who knows what the PS4 might be like. The core package might be built into a 50" Sony Bravia LCD TV and the premium a 60". $6,000 no problem.

Nov 11th in comparison to Nov17th. 2 Months time it has sold 2 million. Already 1 million in the US and 1 million in Japan.

24 million is pretty good for a company's first console. The XBOX 360 has fixed pretty much all the shortcomings of its predecessor, and has a huge headstart. This round, the playstation and xbox have pretty much changed places in every aspect. The PS3 is now bigger than the XBOX. The XBOX 360 came out first and has a much larger software library and user base. Both PS3s have a hard drive where it's optional on the 360. The only thing that hasn't switched is the power of the systems. XBOX 360 will win, end of discussion.

Ahem. Wasn't it sony forcing you to buy a blu ray drive and hard drive even though it isn't needed for great gaming? Also, of course MS sits around a table and discusses new products and services to release. All of it is OPTIONAL. It's called business. If you want to make a profitable business, you need to release things people want. They are not making you pay more for a product including things you don't need and convincing you why you need them like $ony.

If you absolutely NEED a HD movie player and prefer blu ray, the PS3 could be a value because it's still cheaper than the others. If you need a good solid games console with lots of software and hardware support to back it up it just isn't. Yeah sony wants to give you more but they also want you to pay more. You just have more options with the XBOX 360.
Also it will be near the end of the year before any good games come out on the PS3. At least they're supposed to be good, let's see.
I'm real sure all those games will be finished and not half-assed ready by that time and I'm even more sure they can afford a price cut with that free network and their losses from development and manufacturing costs in the billions. I guess all this wishful thinking is why some people are still buying the PS3.

Computers ALWAYS need more RAM then game consoles. Of course it could work, it just needs to be ported. It might not have ALL the features, but it can run on the 360 or maybe even the PS3.

The PS2 had a staggered launch, with the Japan launch in March 4th 2000, and the US launch in October 26th 2000.
So how are you comparing the sales figures? Are you comparing PS3 sales to Japan PS2 sales after the same period of time following the launch in March 2000? PS3 sales to Japan and US PS2 sales after the same period after the launch in October 2000? PS3 sales to the Japan PS2 sales after the same period after launch plus the US PS2 sales after the same period after launch?
I think you can see the point being made here. With the staggered launch of the PS2, it's unclear how you are comparing the two, and therefore your statement is meaningless until you clarify it.
BTW, does anyone have the exact figures for PS2 sales after this same amount of time after launch? For both Japan and US?
The PS2 had the same issue with software at launch and now look at it. I don't think this means much in the long run. I own a PS3 and I see the potential. We will see a lot more must have games in the future. Sure the 360 had a head start and so did the Dreamcast, remember. Just wait and see. I think the PS3 will look better when we see more content.
...Sony will bundle the PS3 with either games or movies. Who knows, they could bundle a card or something that would give you free downloads from the Playstation Network. That would seem like they wouldn't loose to much to do something like that.
If you do own a PS3 you will probably kick yourself later once you see all the content that will come out for it. Come on man, don't you watch game trailers. Games will get even better in a couple years or so.
The Dreamcast was Sega's last try for consoles after the disastrous Saturn. It was killed by the fact that nobody had very high expectations for it because the Saturn did horribly, it was very easy to pirate games, and the new playstation or nintendo wasn't released yet. XBOX 360 has nothing in common with the Dreamcast.
The Saturn seemingly had everything going for it. The Genesis was very popular and even beat nintendo. The hype was heavy and people thought it could beat newcomer sony. Then the new games stopped coming and it was dead. Just goes to show you what system was better last generation doesn't mean anything.

As for "SUX!! to have a PS3!!" Yes, as of right now I use it to play a few games, watch a few movies... put some music and videos and photos on it... it's basically the PSX atm (which look how well that did...[Not the PsONE])...
