Analysts on Euro launch: All shipped PS3s will sell

Before and after the original launch of Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3), the company has already been plagued by criticisms coming from every source imaginable - from main competitors Nintendo and Microsoft, retailers, analysts, and even from fans themselves. It seems now that the company is getting its groove back, and analysts can't help but agree.

According to Screen Digest analyst Nick Parker, "What Sony has shipped will sell. We estimate that Sony will sell around 4 million units in Europe this year, with 1 to 1.5 million in the UK." The company promised that a total number of 220,000 PS3 units will be made available for the U.K. launch alone.

Just so you guys have an idea if this number is enough or not, it would be good to remember that Microsoft was only able to supply 70,000 Xbox 360 systems during its launch in U.K. last 2005. Nintendo, likewise, provided just 105,000 Wii units for the market last autumn. Both companies, as you all know, have been met by supply shortage issues as well.

"This is the first console launch for years where we anticipate that we will be able to have consoles available at the day of launch in every single Woolworth's store," helpfully added a representative from the UK-based high street shop Woolworth's. Aside from these, analysts believe that Sony will implement a price cut before fall of 2007 hits.

According to them, this is due to the strengthening value of the Japanese Yen. Screen Digest admitted that such price cut is more probable in U.K. and the rest of Europe than in North America because "the per-machine losses in Europe are more or less negated by currency exchange rates."

OMFG, what is wrong with you guys, it seems that lately all i keep reading on these poxy blogs are stupid analyst reports, analysts say this, analysts say that, FFS get a life, these so called analysts are never right, they get paid to be "logical" future tellers but in actual fact are never right and pull out random numbers froim thin air, and in the case of them suffocating and having no air, they pull out numbers from there bum hole. Its coming to a point where we just dont give a ***** about what analystd predict. In fact, im so positive everybody hates it that i am willing to bet my wife that if you put up a petition that says no more analyst BS posts, it will have more then 97% of people stating they just dont give a ***** about this crap that isnt even news.

If it was up to me, and hopefully one of these days it will be, i will have every analyst shot in the leg and arm so that they cant work anymore and will recieve no benefit money, instead, they can predict for the rest of there pathetic life how much money they are going to get after 2015 when sony PS4 comes out and no one buys it apart from 16% of the people who bought the PS3.

Nah, PS3 ain't a dud yet.

Since release it seems that Sony is doing everything they can to make it a dud, though. Things seem to sort of be looking up, but Sony very seriously needs to bring the cost down. At least release some model that's within 50USD of the cheapest '360 product.

this is true. Launches will always be decently high. Longevity of these sales will depend on how good this summer's line-up will be(i.e. Lair, HS, and whatever else)

yeah of course sony is gonna have alot of them, they will just take the ones that didnt sell in the US and ship them to UK/europe
