Analysts bet PS3 North America price cut |
Ó
This kind of economic news we can live with - presuming the economists did their homework right. Analysts are thinking that a PS3 price cut in North America could be laid out on the table, with one even saying that we'll see it this spring. Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities says to GameDailyBIZ that, besides the Japan-only PS3 price cut, Sony could be basing its pricing decisions on the differential with the competition. "Should Microsoft cut the price of the 360 in the future, which I think is a strong likelihood next year, Sony will cut the price of the PS3." Probably to maintain the same price difference between the two units, not to spark a price war.
John Taylor of Arcadia Research, in the meanwhile, is betting that any price cut Sony announces will happen in springtime, after the first wave of PS3 launch units. He also thinks that the reason Sony cut the price in Japan was because of the price differential with their closest competition in the territory: the Wii. And the price difference between the two, even given the performance difference, is "way too big," he says. Pachter is less confident about any specific timeframes for a price cut, other than sometime "next year."
No promises are made in economics, though. But at least price cuts tend to be an historic trend, if not an inevitability.

Hopefully Sony will be able to handle the loss if they do that.
I seriously doubt Sony will cut the price here for atleast a year..Sony knows they could have asked more for the system here and the brainless herd of fanboys would still buy everyone they could ship.
All you Sony And Microsoft Fan boys are all the same, When the Ps2 was out and the Xbox was about to arrive all the arguments started about power, size and which one would win. Sony fan boys convinced that the amount of games already out would win it and Microsoft fan boys convinced that The power of the machine would win it. Now al you Muppets are arguing the reason that the other console last time around would fail is now the reason that your new console will win. Nintendo Will always be there with who ever makes it because they stick to there roots and the fans know this and can expect the best games even though the might not have the most power. Just Like the days of Sega mega drive and the Snes, and look who is still around out of them two
games won the console war last round and will again this round. The 360 has taken almost a year for any desireable titles, while the ps3 already has a dozen plus right around launch. Back with the Genesis and SNES, the genesis was on top with a great selection of games but fell under when the snes gained better titles, alot of help from squaresoft made this possible. That and better possiblities with the contollers.
Yes nintendo sticks to its roots, MONEY, almost every console they make gains a profit right out of box. They make them cheap for you and them. When they were on top they worked third party devs to the bone, treated them poorly, and made them take it up the ass till sony came around and promised more fair treatment to third party devs and even put up money for them. Besides NIntendos tried and true, there hasnt been much going for thier consoles. Wii might be different.
Hey, you mention Xbox 360 has had a year and no good games yet the PS3 will launch with a dozen plus?
Dude, you sound like a fanboy. Think about it. We don't even know what will launch with the system yet. We can say this, it won't be:
Metal Gear (delayed till late 2007)
Gran Tourismo HD (delayed till 2007)
Gran Tourismo 5 (delayed till who knows when)
Warhawk (delayed till summer 07)
Lair (delayed till summer 07)
Armored Core (delayed)
Unreal Tournament (delayed)
SOCOM 4 (Delayed)
God of War (delayed)
Sonic (delayed till Dec)
So, the only titles left are:
Resistance
Motorstorm
Devil May Cry
Heavenly Sword
Genji
Oblivion (which has been out for 9 months on 360)
Ton of Sports games (multiplatform)
Ridge Racer 7 (yawn)
....
And we don't even know which ones of these are actually going to make launch.
Ok, so where are your dozen plus great games?
fritzilla
but how much is the cheaper ps3 and how much is the expensive one
Shut up fritzilla, we always hear the same crap from you, think of something new for a change and preferably on topic!
Remember in the UK when the xbox launched, the PS2 was slashed from £300 to £200? Well when the xbox was released and no one was really that interested, the xbox also got slashed to a cool £200.
All I can hope for is that the same happens this time round but its sony to slash its price, not only in the US/JAp regions, but in europe too (especially the UK!)
£425 is way too much, especially when you convert that to dollars (800 dollars at the current exchange rate!).
But then again, with the pound being so strong against the dollar atm, maybe importing for £100 cheaper would be a wise decision, no? I much prefer NTSC/60 to PAL/50 anyways, imported (cough) games played so much better on my ps2 usually.
But then again, my wage at £10 per hour does work out at a cool per hour so i cant complain really
fritzilla is just calling out some moron on a false statement. The 360 had GRAW, PGR3, DOA4, CoD2, a ***** load of sports games, and then a few decent ones, and then a few that flopped. How many games do you idiots plan on buying at launch at 80 dollars a pop? I didnt think so. Probably 1 or 2 games for the first month, and then another 1 or 2 after that. How many block buster hits do you need to get all on one day?
The average gamer is going to get the console and then 1 game.
