Analyst: triple-A titles should maintain US$ 59 price point

Analyst: 59 Price Point Safe in '09 - Image 1I think we have established that the video game industry is not recession proof in this cookie-crumbling economy, yeah? Yeah.

Should we expect games to become cheaper then? Yes. And no. Not for AAA titles at least, according to analysts.

The issue came up when some high-profile games got price cuts, like Mirror's Edge, Guitar Hero, and Prince of Persia. It got some industry watchers worrying that new releases will be priced lower.

Analyst Todd Greenwald of Signal Hill thinks that won't happen though, saying that US$ 59 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 games will still be the standard for this year. Price slashing of games across the board would be "devastating for margins," he said.

If triple-A titles start to go out at US$ 49.99, we will be very concerned, but until then, we think US$ 59.99 is safe for triple-A titles in 2009.

The best way to support your studios is, of course, to buy their games. Oh my poor, poor, piggy bank. You break for the sake of the video game industry.

I miss when games were that price. Although I was recently cleaning out a desk from when I was in elementary school and I found a magazine with Star Wars Pod Racer advertised at 54.99.. It made me smile

They should just lower the price for every new game to like $40 then people would be buying like crazy.

Yet again... I said this in a previous comment and I'll say it again, this site is biased. They ALWAYS use Sexbox pictures for the example pic. Can you idiots think and USE A FREAKIN PS3 image every once in a freakin while? Maybe if you do I'll occasionally click an ad or two.

I started up GRID that day and got the whole "update is required". Figured it was a game update for GRID, but then my Xbox restarted. Had me worried for a bit. Thank you for reminding me it was the HDMI sound issue

» Haha yeah

Smiled at the fact that old games like that were that expensive compared to now, since the technology is obsolete. Personally I think the games should go back to $50.. I don't know much about video game budgets, but quality games sell hundreds of thousands, dipping into the millions, and if people are spending 50 bucks on a game, theoretically they could buy an extra game every so often. I used to never buy used games but man.. now I do. The 10 dollar increase from last gen just keeps adding up..

It's just a pic, dude.

I own a PS3 and not a 360 and I don't give a crap about the pics.

We have another idiot that doesnt know anything about this site! So, as I've said before I'll say again, ALL OF THE SECTIONS CROSS OVER WITH EACH OTHER, IF SOMETHING IS POSTED IN THE PS3 SECTION IT AUTOMATICALLY POSTS IN THE 360 SECTION. Now, lets see if your peanut sized brain can process all that.

Good point.

With the economy being real bad, some people have stopped buying games.

If the companies want to stay in business, they should lower the games then more people can buy them.
