Analyst prediction: Xbox 360 sales boosted thanks to Halo 3, tough times for PS3 |

Another analyst's tossed in his two cents regarding projected sales for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Kaufman Bros. analyst Todd Mitchell has estimated that thanks to the massive sales being generated by Bungie Studios' Halo 3, Microsoft could be looking at increased console sales by the holidays.Mitchell estimated that total Xbox 360 consoles sales by the end of the year to be around 17.1 million. Predictions aside, it is tough to deny the flood that Halo 3's generated come launch, with US sales reportedly topping US$ 170 million within just 24 hours.
But while all looks rosy for the 360, Mitchell predicted tough times for Sony's console. The analyst cited the PS3's high price and lack of "compelling content," and stated that the company stood to face "a worse case scenario" come the holidays. Todd predicts that total PS3 sales by the end of the year would total 10.3 million. He also estimated that Wii sales would total 19.8 million within the said time period.
It'll be remembered that earlier, Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter made his own estimates. Pachter's predictions included the possibility of a 80GB PS3 marked down to $499, and of the release of a 40GB PS3 costing just US$ 399 before Christmas. And in the case of Master Chief's big boost for the 360, PS3 dudes might just be getting their own comeback by way of Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 4, although that'll have to wait.

Since when is looking at the past a prediction?
Is he predicting a good opening week for Halo or something?
Is he predicting scratched discs and disappointment based on false-advertisement?

look at you sony fanboy ... at least you can play blugay movies on your ps3, keep waiting for the games though.
I saw 5 people or so pickup a 360 along with halo...and that was at a midnight launch at best buy....so no doubt halo 3 will sell lot's of consoles....
Not to mention when someone goes into a store in Canada they are faced with a $659 PS3 with lair, or a $299 core 360 or a $399 premium with Halo 3....which do you think they will choose based on software out right now and all the hype around Halo 3 ? If the situation is even remoteley similar elsewhere, then it's a bad time for Sony indeed.....and MGS isn't going to be even half as big as Halo 3, so I wouldn't count on that...

I'd rather enjoy a game for hours than spend that time figuring out how to control it!
I don't care who wins this so called "war" My life won't dramatically change one way or the other if at all. The people taking our $$$ have already won. For tally keepers; that would be the HAVE'S and not the HAVE NOTS :)
M$ currently has a way better selection and price point than Sony...and for most consumers, those are the major factors for buying an entertainment system.
Hell.. in 5-10 years consoles will probably die off like dinosaurs and we'll end up with some crazy Orwellian conglomerate called THE NETWORK where EVERYTHING is available on a giant screen set up in every living cube. Control cords will plug directly into the base or your skull right below the tattoo'd bar-code.

and the control isn't bad either difficult... I don't know why everyone said that... the bad thing of this game is sooo boring... is like go there... do that... and... and... I don't know.. lack of gameplay... but the control is fine..
Back to topic... The halo 3 is a console seller? sure it is... but metal gear too for the PS3... there are soo many PS fans that wait this game.. with the new 40gb one will sell a lot better... anyway I want to rent halo 3 to see how big is that game... because I played the 1 and 2 of the series and I didn't like it...
Sony don't own MGS 4, and last I heard it is looking extremely likely that it will be coming out on the 360.
Oh yeah, and that game will be released when? Late 2008 (trust me, it will be awhile)? I don't think that is going to move PS3s this holiday season.

Has nothing to do with the PS3, they say tough times ahead for sony but what does one games success have to do with another whole damn console.. lol. Even if it did good that dosnt mean its hurting sony in anyway (i dont think people understand that)

M$ is ahead by one year so I can understand the game selection, but this november theres gunna be nothing else to talk about.. cause theres goin to be some crazy games this november AND it looks like a price drop is coming.

It's so funny how heated debated over a "gaming system" can get. Man I tell you what these companies sure are doing a great job brain washing us into fighting over their stupid systems. I just support the one with the best games out at the current time. I'm not going to say which one that is but i'm sure you can guess. Quit giving away free advertising for these corporations and honestly why do you all care who wins? Do any of you have stock in either company?
If only Microsoft would release the 65 nm processing unit with the Elite I would be playing Gears and Halo 3 now!

Two of my good friends bought lair and they both like it, they don't have any complaints with the controls. Besides, Lair isn't necessarily intended for everyone, they made their game unique, and I applaud them for their hard work on developing such a game. Also, it's not like the PS3 has no good games: Motorstorm, Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, etc... lol fanboys will be fanboys...
