Analyst: GTA IV to outsell Halo 3 |

Is there any video game release in the near future that can topple industry juggernaut Halo 3 from its pedestal? According to Janco partners analyst Mike Hickey, it's almost a foregone conclusion. His bet? Rockstar Games' controversial and highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3).
"Maybe the first week GTA IV sales won't do what Halo 3 did, but I can almost guarantee they'll probably outsell Halo 3 in the first year," said the analyst.
It can be recalled that Bungie and Microsoft made gaming history last September when Halo #@%!4
5#@%! racked up an astounding US$ 300 million in its first week out. Attributed as vital parts of its success were the advertising and merchandising campaigns that accompanied it.
However, Hickey says that Rockstar's alternate hype method may work better. The more discreet teasing, he says, may prove more effective than Halo 3's in-your-face ways that even included a boy band music video titled "Halo Nights". Throw in the fact that this chapter of the series is going multiplatform, and Hickey could very well be spot on.
Grand Theft Auto Iv's main character Niko Bellic is already in icon status months before the game's actual launch. Screenshots and videos of the game have helped showcase fans what they'll get with their impending purchase.
Controversy has always been the selling point of the Grand Theft Auto franchise and its next-gen installment seeks to take notoriety to new heights. In addition to car-jacking and gang-related activities, players can patronize strip clubs, go on dates, meet people online, and do pretty much whatever they want.

These analysts have a lot of "well DUH" moments these days. If GTA4 doesn't outsell H3, R* booboo'd big time.

Remember guys, Halo 3 can be played by almost any one over 6, legally. Whereas GTAIV is a mother*****er to get, even if 32 with a fully fledged beard. Though, GTAIV roxes the socks of halo.
Halo 3 has sold over 8.1 million copies. PS3 is just under 8 mil. worldwide. your saying EVERY PS3 owner will buy GTA4, and THEN some will buy it twice? think before you speak. The internet is no excuse to be a moron.
Like you guys said, it doesn't take much brainpower to know that GTAIV will probably outsell Halo 3. The game will also be better in every aspect. Even if this game was not multi-platform it would (overall) sell better than Halo 3. P.S: PS3 has over 9 Million World Wide. Add the two months up to GTA IV's release and you are well above ten million. Not saying that this means it will outsell Halo 3 on the PS3 alone, just clearing some ground.
The PS3 has sold just under 10 million units worldwide. But it's still kind of far fetched for that many people to buy the game on PS3. Halo 3 only sold as many copies as it did because the 360 had already been out for 2 years before the game was released. Not to mention that it was just riding on the backs of Halo 1 and 2 for the majority of it's sales.
It's actually a bit under 9 million units sold worldwide according to Sony's financial statement.
I think DMC4 will help rise sales for the PS3, since that game was meant to be played for PS3, its been stated that the PS3 version is clearer and cleaner to the 360 game. Still i think a couple of million of console sales can up lift it to under 11 million. Right before GTA4 comes out then more consoles sales before MGS4 and the cycle continues.
GTA4 will most likely outsell H3,but only because it's on two formats.If it wasn't then no,also gta4 on ps3 won't outsell h3 it won't even outsell the 360 version of gta.n 2 stealth dmc4 will increase 360 sales too actually it'll most likely be more helpful 2 the 360 since they can get halo 3,geow n gta4,for a cheaper price(360) also the u.k. version of dmc4 cost more so ppl who adore that game on 360 just cuz dmc4 is cheaper n pick the 360 over ps3 since it's a little cheaper.

u must be a retard antbing to think ms will stop selling 360s.The 360 outsold the ps3 for over 3 months in us,n guess what THEIR ALMOST THE SAME PRICE!!!! stop being a fanboy,the 360 will sell more 360s because of gta. Most ppl will go with the 360 version of gta,also most ppl will buy the 360 version of dmc over the ps3 version too.I hope u do know the 360 has the highest attach rate in history.I never seen a game Sony released that made 50% of their customers go out n buy 1 game.Also, I still haven't seen a game on the ps3 that sold as well as gears. so I'm pretty sure ms has nothing 2 worry about,the ps3 attach rate is almost the same as the Wii lol. FACT the 360 sells more games,also the ps3 never match the attach rate of the 360 .

it's true that you may have 9 million PS3's out there. Now by the time the game is release must that do not have a PS3 yet are waiting for this game to be release to get one. I remember the first GTA- I was working at a nice videogame store in NYC. I can tell you that almost every GTA game that was sold was accompanied by the console. So must people got the console that very same day the game got to that store. That being said - add a couple thousands or maybe one or two millions to that 9Million.

Also, you definitely sound like a fanboy saying that Kingofdaberbz's assertion about people still buying the 360 is nonsense, is complete nonsense on you. People love the Grand Theft Auto series, and IV will bring it's own sales, along with both Xbox360 and PS3 console sales together.
I havent get my own console waiting for MGS4 to be released! Then I'll get them both MGS4 and GTAIV. So you can count one towards that 9 million!
I'll explain it in a better way. The 360 is going to slow down in sales, if all you got is a multiplatorm game then that wont sell a whole lot of 360's. Think about it, Mgs4 is coming around the corner plus Home, GTA and a whole lot of others. Which would you get if you had to choose now? If you see the two systems: PS3 - Has a lot of really GREAT games coming in 08 plus GTA 360 - has GTA? I look at the whole package so I think people will choose the ps3 for GTA plus a future with this years PS3 exclusive games. Just using some common sense. Tell me if that makes sense what people would do in that situation? I know what I'd do..
So see me there! Eclipse will be whipping some ass like the good ol' days. Headshots and CQC were the only things I used. I believe on my play around account I had 893 kills and 714 headshots. Way more then half of my kills were headshots ^_^.
I think gta4 will actually be more helpful 2 ms,since the 360 is slightly cheaper.Also,the 360 has an higher attach rate retailers would be promoting the 360 n 360 version of gta.Most ppl who will buy gta4 are casual gamers, so I don't think mgs will effect their console choices.Also the 360 has plenty of games like Fable 2,Ninja Gaiden 2 and Alan Wake,and ms still haven't announced their 08' lineup yet.Their 08' lineup will be announced at GDC this year.
