Alleged packshot of Grand Theft Auto IV

Regardless of what people say about the Grand Theft Auto series, without a doubt, it is one of the most successful and revolutionary games that came out in recent times. And a lot has already been said about the upcoming title, Grand Theft Auto IV, and we really can't blame people if they keep on talking about it.

Like this one for starters: one of our readers, Jumba, left a message in our mailbox with a snapshot of an alleged GTA IV pack shot. Now, we're taking this with a grain of salt and putting up a rumor flag. Remember, around June of last year, a supposed screenshot of the game was circulated, but Rockstar confirmed it to be false.

But then again, it is already February and the game is expected October 16, 2007 (although the European launch won't be until October 19). Could this be legit?

Why update with this at all? The ESRB has not rated the game yet, so a packshot would not have an "M" rating on it.

Actually, that is the PS3 case, you see the Blu-ray logo and Playstation 3 at the top of the box (The Clear Part)

"M" is their target rating...they will get it regardless of what the ESRB originally rates it as. (via taking what's needed out.)

Here's the easy part to spot. It's at least 8 months away from being released and there is an ESRB rating of M on the box. Duh! Nice try with the photoshop.

Just coz its 8 months from release wouldn't stop them from going ahead and putting the MATURE rating on it, its not as if this GTA is suddenly going to be "Suitable for Everyone"!! So it could be a provisional box shot, subject to changes, which was leaked and then printed and inserted into a ps3 game box.

Even if "M" is there target rating, they couldn't put it on a box before it has actually been rated, they would either be fined or sued by the ESRB. They would not put a rating on the box before it was rated, and there is no way it would have been rated yet.
