After DMC 4 platform crossover, Microsoft wants Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy next

O snap. Just when we thought the whole Devil May Cry 4 exclusivity turnabout would be over, apparently, it could potentially be just the beginning. Turns out that DMC4 is just one of the three titles that Microsoft was aiming to bring on over to the 360. In his dreisechzig.net blog, MS Germany product manager Boris Schneider-Johne had posted a revealing post which sparked debates far and wide. Because we don't want any room for misinterpretation, we will replicate his blog post word-for-word here. It's ultimately your decision how you will regard this bit of info:

You can check our Via link below to double check for yourself. So, does this mean they're going to bring FFXIII and MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots over? Before you some of you guys start exclaiming "all your Game are belong to us" statements, don't be too quick to judge. Schneider-Johne had updated his blog post due to lots of flammatory feedback across the interwebs. Here's his addendum, read it, and read it well:

((Yes, this is just a personal checklist of franchises that I and plenty of others would like to see on Xbox 360. In no way, shape or form is that an announcement list, an internal Microsoft shopping list, a "I know more than you do" list or something like that. Somebody in an english-language forum called this "a gloating employee" and he maybe is right. And I've seen suggestions that Grand Theft Auto and Tekken should be on this list too - so your mileage will inevitably vary.))

Got it? His "shopping list" does not confirm anything. In fact, we're not even sure if this counts as a rumor because there isn't really any sound basis for any form of open-ended speculation - he declared and stamped his foot down quite clearly already: in no way, shape, or form is it an announcement. We did tag it under "Opinions and Analysis" though. Because that's the brunt of the matter here.

If anything, this is not much different from Hironobu Sakaguchi expressing his interest in bringing Final Fantasy over to the 360. We'd also like to add that Hideo Kojima himself even expressed his own thoughts of bringing MGS to the Wii. See? Developers do it all the time. Expressing one's interest in other consoles is normal. And just because someone is interested on something doesn't make that something automatically happen.

Don't you think all this news came out of no where? Just few days before the PS3 Europe launch these news are coming out of the blue. It’s very clear what the purpose of these news is, yep you guessed it make everyone think twice about the PS3 or in another words "to KILL the PS3 Euro launch" I am not saying that M$ is doing it, but we all agree that they are the only beneficiary. Sony put your act together or your spectacular Euro launch will be complete failure. The sad part is that rumors are easy to make up, and they spread out really fast. Any way I don’t have any of the next generation consoles, but If I had to bet on something it sure would be Sony. Remember that all these games were created under the playstaion brand, Microsoft can steal good titles but sadly it can’t make any good ones (pleas don’t tell me Halo)

Microsoft, desperate? I hate to sound like an MS fanboy, but when you have as much money as Microsoft does, you are never desperate. I doubt they'll care if the 360 loses to the PS3, they'll just make another one. And at the rate their consoles have been taking market share, they will eventually win, if they don't this time

Capcom always done multiplatform game even "exclusive" Resident Evil 4" for GC after some time receive a port on Ps2.

Create a next gen title is really expensive and I believe that we will see really few exclusive.

MGS problably will arrive on 360 problably with some delay like in the past.

FF it's really hard because after the film "Final Fantasy The Spirit Within" Sony bought around 20/30 % of Square it seems that everyone forgot this.

For me this generation will see exclusive title only for the title developed inside (Gran Turismo, God Of War, Forza Motorsport) until someone will have a big presence in the market.

It's no surprise MS would want those franchises on their machine, they are really the only reason for people to buy a PS3.

They are not Sony's games, they are all 3rd party publishers, and if they would like an extra 15+ million people(by the time MGS4 launches) to sell their game too, then they should release on 360. With the extra dev costs for developing this next gen (most of which are artistic and media content, which can be easly transfered between platforms) it just makes sense to release on as many platforms as possible..

Maybe Sony needs to start making some decent first party titles...

has a lot of first party IPs. Only to begin with, RFoM and MotorStorm. MotorStorm 2 is already in works as well RFoM 2 + expansion packs. Dont forget about Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank Future, Uncharted, GOW 3, LIAR, and the list goes on. You never will see those titles on x360. Some of them are new IPs, yet to be proved, but others are very well established and popular franchises. Its already known that SONY development force is bigger than MS+ninty combined, you really dont need to worry about AAA first party games coming to PS3. SONY knows they are beginning this race in the last place and MS is using their early lead + a lot of money in order to steal PS2 exclusives, I expect third party exclusives returning to PS3 by 2008, because a PS3 price drop and a lot of AAA titles will push PS3 sales, meanwhile BD mercilessly destroy HD-DVD.

I really doubt that these specific titles will go to the Box. Hideo Kojima looks as if he is open to different platforms but is pretty dedicated to finishing this title on the PS3. But like he said, he is open to releasing a MGS title on the Wii as well, just as long as he finishes MGS4 first. He also does say that he is using like all of a Blu ray disc, and no matter how you square it, with whatever compression techniques, that going to be at least 4 DVDs. He also mentions how the 360 isnt all that popular in Japan so that turned him off somewhat(maybe that would change later on).

As far as FFXIII goes, that game is running on the white engine, and even though the Blue Dragon guy speculated it was open platform, the white engine is actually optimized for Cell. So maybe they will bring the FF series to the xbox, but I would imagine, those would be later installments with the UE3.

That's the first sensible post I've read on QJ in a week (apart from mine). This article has seriously caused both Fan groups to over react. This is nothing to worry about (if these things do worry you?!) and the article is not even news worthy. Relax everybody. As for PS3 and the whole console war rubbish, SONY has 200 Million PS2 owners and still going strong, these owners will be tomorrows PS3 owners when they decide to move on to the next gen playing field and they'll stick with the next system in a line of consoles that has provided hours (and years) of fun for them.

Resident Evil director Shinji Mikami once said that someone could cut his head off if the series had any sequels on a system other than Nintendo's Gamecube hardware. You saw how that came out.

And lets not forget about Assasins Creed.

No 3rd party games are ever really exclusive, however I do believe the PS3 will succeed with it's 1st party titles.

But any non-exclusive game will end up looking worse than they could have for each system. The cost to truly optimize a game for two individual architectures is really expensive. So what you will see is a game that will, for the most part look the same for both systems, but it could have looked way better if it were made from the ground up for the specific system. Yea, you can say, "Oh but 360 games always looks better than the PS3 version!" But honestly, if they do, then it's barely. It is for the most part the same, and I bet you if that game was exclusive, even the better version of the game would have looked EVEN better.

FFXIII to cross over to the XBOX 360 for one reason. FFXIII uses 6 processors!

The XBOX 360 only has 3 and the PS3 has 8+1 so it would not work and I'm sure the game will be a lot bigger than 8.5 GBs and I doubt Microsoft wants multidic games!

If I buy a version of the game it will be for PC or PS3, probably the latter. I don't know which console version will sell more. This game was off my radar as a PC game. Now, with PS3, it seems like an interesting console option and probably a good game for the Sony controller. Gamers benefit from competition once again.

We lost Ninja Gaiden to PS3, plus it has all of it's extras only for PS3. If Sony gets what's labeled the Greatest action game of all time, then it's only fair we get a decent replacement.

I myself would call Devil May Cry 1 the Greatest action game ever made and would love to see a remake on the PS3 and 360. Oh well, one can only dream.
