Activision plays the 'tremendous value' card to justify DJ Hero pricing

European gamers weren't all too thrilled to find out how much DJ Hero (PS3, Xbox 360) was gonna cost in their region. Comparatively, the US pricing is much more decent than what was given to them at GB£ 107.99 (US$ 177.70). Now, Activision is speaking out about their decision on the price, and is justifying it by saying that the game does offer 'tremendous value'. Hmmm.. the value argument. I think I've heard that from somewhere before.

Said Activision,

We don't comment on our product pricing strategies. However, we believe that DJ Hero will provide tremendous value for our consumers by delivering an all-new interactive music experience with over 100 individual songs that are highlighted in over 80 unique mixes, a wide variety of music from some of the biggest artists including Jay-Z, Eminem, Benny Benassi, Gwen Stefani and Black Eyed Peas among others.

Does it come with this peripheral?

Well if you think about it, the "intereactive music experience with over 100 individual songs" and the "wide variety of music from some of the biggest artists" are also available with other music simulation games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band, but we don't see them going above a hundred pound price point.

I knew it. Those darned turntable controllers cost an arm and a leg to make. And to think that price doesn't guarantee talent.

I'm seriously tired of Activision. They sell overpriced gimmicks(guitar hero, tony hawk ride, dj hero). They milk franchises (call of duty). And they even feel like their big enough to completely stop supporting Sony consoles. Their lame...IMO.

They're as notorious as EA now, except somehow they found a way to suck more. At least EA is trying to do new things like Army of Two and Mirror's Edge. All you ever get from Acti is a bunch of rehashes and uninspired sequels.

..and there was me thinking £70 was a bit steep when I bought guitar hero on wii all that time ago. This game looks incredibly sh*t, I have 2 friends that DJ quite a lot and they have totally gone off the idea just by seeing a 2 minute demo video.

Im glad to see I'm not the only one who found this hypocritical coming from of all people Activision. WTF were they thinking? It was almost a direct quote from Sony's marketing strategy. Stupid...

What is the "tremendous value" we get in Europe that the US isn't getting that justifies this price difference?

Sweet FA, that's what.

It's a simple case of screwing the EU market, and I for one am sick to death of it - Sony are just as bad. The UK is seen as one huge cash cow for these lame-ass idiots, and I've switched to importing my games/hardware now. I'm not going to be penalised for my location by a bunch of in-bred chancers who think they can get away with it.

What are you talking about? one technics turntable costs around £400.

I think he's talking about a turn-table that you can buy from major retailers. We used to sell Sony ($99.99) and Audio-Technica turntables ($79.99). I'm not a dj but I'm pretty sure those would be poor choices since the belt drives on them or incredibly breakable.

Maybe he meant that ION DJ USB turntable that spins whatever way you want it, and only costs $129.99.
