Activision explains Call of Duty back on Modern Warfare 2 title |
Ó
Activision attempts to explain why the "Call of Duty" prefix was added back to Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, and PC) after it originally ditched it. Could concerns over brand awareness be the real reason behind it?
A spokesperson talked to Kotaku and explained thus:
Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 is the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PC, PS3, Xbox 360). We have focused our attention on Modern Warfare in order to most effectively communicate the fact that this is the first sequel in the Call of Duty series. Infinity Ward, the original creators of the Call of Duty franchise, has said from the beginning Modern Warfare 2 resides in the Call of Duty universe. This is reflected in the title's package.
At the end of the day, does it really matter? We're sure this game's gonna be a hit, and that's that.

Or else modern warfare 2 would have such a generic title. Like a game you would find in the value bin.
Now it can be related to that god-awful World at War.
The reason IW wanted to drop the Call of Duty name was because of CoD: W@W.
So those two games (Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2) are the same game. It makes so much sense now. Thank you IW for the clarification!
well well...
they already know that it not going to be as good as cod 4 and not even half as good as cod 5 waw which sold over ten million so they cant change the name bcause they dont even belive in themselves just like halo odst lmao...
i hate the COD series. Every kid on the planet has this game and its all anyone ever talks about. I though Modern Warfare 2 set it apart a bit from this series and made it that much better for it. It wasnt just another Call of Duty--it was Modern Warfare 2.
Is Not COD 5 its just COD WAW.... and MW2 wont be COD 6 it will just be COD MW2... Look at GTAIII then there was VICE CITY and SAN ANDREAS befor GTA4...
That's because Vice City and San Andreas were considered a part of the whole GTA3 timeline. They were new games, but took place in the same universe. GTA4 is a new game, but it rebooted everything. It's still Liberty City, but is much bigger and radically different in looks, etc. etc.
CoD doesn't have that layer of depth, so when people say CoD5 and 6, and whatever, people know what they're referring to. It doesn't matter if it's official or not, everyone already knows CoDWaW as CoD5, whether they like it or not.
Seriously Chaos? Fanboys drive me nuts! Just because it didn't come from IW doesn't mean it's a crap game. World at War, if you really have a need to insult it, was pretty much a copy of Modern Warfare. Even then they added new perks, gave you a new powerful story and fiddled with the system like giving you a reason to hit prestige (extra custom weapon slots). And Zombie mode. That was so much fun. And the map packs were actually good this time unlike IW wards lazy attempt.
C'mon dude. Turn off the fanboy inside. Modern Warfare isn't going to be the kill all game that it's trying to market itself as. It's the same game again that's going to be perfected and they're going to add some stuff like the new co-op mode and story. That's it buddy. I'm still gonna buy it, but it really isn't anything revolutionary. I could even say that about COD4. It was good but nothing new. Lol fanboys.
well well...what has activision been smoking lately
a thousand names 1 game lol XD
hindo..you are prolly the only person i ever seen commenting os this site that actually KNOWS that WAW is --->>NOT
I'm not saying it's a crap game, I'm just saying it's low in quality. There's glitches everywhere, the guns suck, the map design is awful and the setting has been used more than my grandparents have F#$@!. You're talking about IW being lazy? W@W can't even create their own engine to use. Call me a fanboy, but I just hate it when these companies are allowed to piggyback off of someones success whilst doing a sub par job.
