Modern Warfare 2 - Image 1

Just when we thought it couldn't generate any more hype than it already has (it is coming out really soon, after all), we were proven wrong. Modern Warfare 2 (PC, PS3 and Xbox 360) is in another controversy yet again as gameplay footage depicting what appears to be a massacre - perpetrated by the player himself - got leaked recently.

Catching wind of this leak, Activision sent out their clean-up PR committees stat to clarify what that scene was all about. While the company confirms the existence of such a scene, they reassured that that whole scenario is actually skippable, if the player may deem it unsuitable for their personal preferences. But what is that doing in the game in the first place?

Activision has got a lot of explaining to do, so we'll give them the rest of the floor to let them do just that:

The leaked footage was taken from a copy of game that was obtained illegally and is not representative of the overall gameplay experience in Modern Warfare 2.

Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 features a deep and gripping storyline in which players face off against a terrorist threat dedicated to bringing the world to the brink of collapse. The game includes a plot involving a mission carried out by a Russian villain who wants to trigger a global war. In order to defeat him, the player infiltrates his inner circle. The scene is designed to evoke the atrocities of terrorism. At the beginning of the game, players encounter a mandatory "checkpoint" in which they are warned that an upcoming segment may contain disturbing elements and they can choose not to engage in the gameplay that involves this scene.

Consistent with its content, the game has been given an "M" for Mature by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board. The rating is prominently displayed on the front and back of the packaging, as well as in all advertising.

» Awesome.

Not going to lie, I love shooting games, but when it comes to shooting innocent characters, I just can't do it. I only shoot things that shoot at me, or pose a threat. Not people waiting in line to get into a plane, or just chillin in the terminal.

This video has saved me this horrible scene. Once game comes out, I know now that I can skip it.

Thanks Activision for this option.

Is that sarcasm?

if not and you're not gay or female I fear you may not have realised you're gay yet. cos thats feminine thoughts

I mean I could completely understand if someone was asking you to do it in real life... but in a game?

Do you have problems with reality or something??

Musev, you're a terrible person if you can't even respect the decisions people make in a game.

He obviously isn't a mindless killer that shoots at everybody and anything he sees like you.

I totally respect mastershane for his decision.

The only one with problems I see here is you.

It's not even that you shoot at eveything, it's the fact that you offend people who are not the same as you.

you need to get help.

@Silver-Tiger: Thanks for understanding where I was coming from. A;ways nice to see people who still agree with other people's opinions on the net. +)

@Musev: I never knew that being "gay" or "feminine" has to do with the opening massacre of a game... And I never knew that an opinion of a videogame meant that I had a problem with reality...

I like mastershane's attitude regarding the video. It's a mature view into the matter, and far better than the comments in most sites and forums censoring the game.

For me, I'm fairly open minded so I'll play that part if I got the chance. But it's good to know that you can choose to either play that part or not.

» Hmm....

So this game a massacre scene which you do. But isn't the civilians gonna try jump you like in the movies? Or is the AI gonna tell everyone to crawl around for their dear lifes.

What if the game was in hardcore mode? Would Bruce Willis come in from the roof?

I have toooo many questions but not many answers.

» @Walo

Thanks again for the support. And I do understand that it's a Mature Rated game. Don't get me wrong, I am 20 and I do LOVE blood and gore, but there is a point where the violence can be crossed, for me... And this is one of them.

I still can't wait for the game to come out! Man am I excited!

a lot of games are like this. You kill innocent characters, but this one just happens to be Modern Warfare 2.

Though you have the option to skip this level, the fact that these people are getting killed add's emotional and moral effect, which is probably what IW is trying to do. Even the player has the option to open fire or not (as far as I know).

I'm not trying to go against what you're saying in any way. I just wanted to say a couple things.

Immature side time: Musev, you idiot.

by h1web - 2009-10-29 12:53
» Best video of MW2 yet

This scene looks bada** I wouldn't skip it. Hopefully this scene doesn't get removed as I'm sure it's going to stir up some emotions.

i asked where can i watch the video as Activision removed the video from youtube . You gave the me the removed video. Retard

Yeah, of course its me thats immature, Im the one who gets upset over killing 3d models..

Its you lot that need to grow up and realise its not real and your being over sensitive. (hence the feminine comment)

"Musev, you're a terrible person if you can't even respect the decisions people make in a game."

your comment is so ridiculus I cant work out if you're serious or not.

---

in anycase its people like you lot that are the reason other people want games banned.. poor fragile minds.

its not real, it barely even looks real.

I can hardly believe your all serious..

"And I never knew that an opinion of a videogame meant that I had a problem with reality... "

You get upset over something in a game you have a problem with reality or you are over reacting like a women would.

» Thanks, but no

I'm going to go a step further than mastershane, and make a tentative commitment not to buy this game. It seems that the web video is now pulled from the CNN site, as well as YouTube, but if the Gamespot report is accurate .... I don't think this is a game ANY of us should reward with cash. Musev, you do realize that people like you are just pawns, right? The demented programmers of this game have an agenda to further desensitize all of us, and you're charging right in to gobble it up at 'special edition' price (most likely). --What happens when someone does something remotely similar to this in real life? The media is going to blame the game (and ALL games); that's what. ...Is that what you want for a favorite hobby? Because of the simpleton minds of the developers and producers' involved with creating this product, we're going to have to hear more and more about "video games should be banned", etc. ....Look: I play the shooters, I play some pretty violent games, I even appreciate GTA (because it's clearly from a level of parody). ---On the contrary, this COD:MW2 scene (as described) is 100% gratuitous, unnecessary, and inappropriate (especially to have the player take part in it; I'd be more much less opposed if it was just a cut-scene). Let's face it (and IW *knows* it), whether or not it's "Rated M", there are still going to be some younger adults or children that wind-up playing this. TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE for them to put this in there. Activision can offer all the 'opt-out's' and package the game with a blindfold if they want ... but the ULTIMATE 'opt-out' is just NOT TO BUY IT.

» 10/10 for that scene

i played through that scene yesterday and it was freakin awesome!! its just not the sort of thing you expect to see/play in a game. and please remember this is just a game people. its not like youre actually killing people they are animated pixels on a tv screen. no-one actually gets hurt.

and yes obviously it has gone gold. a p2prelease dropped a few days ago. i only downloaded it yesterday though. it was said to not be working but there is a way to get it going...360 btw. im on old 1.4 ixtreme and still had the preview dash loaded from last year :) needless to say i had to ***** around to get the newer security updates on it as it is a banned console. i dont think they realize that banning me doesnt stop me from downloading, burning and playing their games for free. although i have pre-ordered this game for ps3 :-P screw you M$

» So wat exactly is the problem....ITS A GAME!

Ive seen this airport scene and i think its pretty fun, i mean it is sorta f****d up but i mean ITS ONLY A GAME!!!

I cant believe there are actual people out there who think this is some big deal. I mean the point of a game is to have fun and be able to do things that you cant do in real life.

Look at GTA series, how many innocent people get killed in that game, you cant speed up in ur stolen car without hitting ATLEAST one innocent civilian.

Come on u knw its no big deal, a true gamer knows the fun in video games and knows not to take things too serious....END OF STORY
