Activision confirms massacre scene in Modern Warfare 2, is skippable |

Just when we thought it couldn't generate any more hype than it already has (it is coming out really soon, after all), we were proven wrong. Modern Warfare 2 (PC, PS3 and Xbox 360) is in another controversy yet again as gameplay footage depicting what appears to be a massacre - perpetrated by the player himself - got leaked recently.
Catching wind of this leak, Activision sent out their clean-up PR committees stat to clarify what that scene was all about. While the company confirms the existence of such a scene, they reassured that that whole scenario is actually skippable, if the player may deem it unsuitable for their personal preferences. But what is that doing in the game in the first place?
Activision has got a lot of explaining to do, so we'll give them the rest of the floor to let them do just that:
The leaked footage was taken from a copy of game that was obtained illegally and is not representative of the overall gameplay experience in Modern Warfare 2.
Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 features a deep and gripping storyline in which players face off against a terrorist threat dedicated to bringing the world to the brink of collapse. The game includes a plot involving a mission carried out by a Russian villain who wants to trigger a global war. In order to defeat him, the player infiltrates his inner circle. The scene is designed to evoke the atrocities of terrorism. At the beginning of the game, players encounter a mandatory "checkpoint" in which they are warned that an upcoming segment may contain disturbing elements and they can choose not to engage in the gameplay that involves this scene.
Consistent with its content, the game has been given an "M" for Mature by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board. The rating is prominently displayed on the front and back of the packaging, as well as in all advertising.

This video has saved me this horrible scene. Once game comes out, I know now that I can skip it.
Thanks Activision for this option.

if not and you're not gay or female I fear you may not have realised you're gay yet. cos thats feminine thoughts
I mean I could completely understand if someone was asking you to do it in real life... but in a game?
Do you have problems with reality or something??

He obviously isn't a mindless killer that shoots at everybody and anything he sees like you.
I totally respect mastershane for his decision.
The only one with problems I see here is you.
It's not even that you shoot at eveything, it's the fact that you offend people who are not the same as you.
you need to get help.

@Musev: I never knew that being "gay" or "feminine" has to do with the opening massacre of a game... And I never knew that an opinion of a videogame meant that I had a problem with reality...

For me, I'm fairly open minded so I'll play that part if I got the chance. But it's good to know that you can choose to either play that part or not.

What if the game was in hardcore mode? Would Bruce Willis come in from the roof?
I have toooo many questions but not many answers.

I still can't wait for the game to come out! Man am I excited!

Though you have the option to skip this level, the fact that these people are getting killed add's emotional and moral effect, which is probably what IW is trying to do. Even the player has the option to open fire or not (as far as I know).
I'm not trying to go against what you're saying in any way. I just wanted to say a couple things.
Immature side time: Musev, you idiot.

Its you lot that need to grow up and realise its not real and your being over sensitive. (hence the feminine comment)
"Musev, you're a terrible person if you can't even respect the decisions people make in a game."
your comment is so ridiculus I cant work out if you're serious or not.

in anycase its people like you lot that are the reason other people want games banned.. poor fragile minds.
its not real, it barely even looks real.
I can hardly believe your all serious..

You get upset over something in a game you have a problem with reality or you are over reacting like a women would.

and yes obviously it has gone gold. a p2prelease dropped a few days ago. i only downloaded it yesterday though. it was said to not be working but there is a way to get it going...360 btw. im on old 1.4 ixtreme and still had the preview dash loaded from last year :) needless to say i had to ***** around to get the newer security updates on it as it is a banned console. i dont think they realize that banning me doesnt stop me from downloading, burning and playing their games for free. although i have pre-ordered this game for ps3 :-P screw you M$

I cant believe there are actual people out there who think this is some big deal. I mean the point of a game is to have fun and be able to do things that you cant do in real life.
Look at GTA series, how many innocent people get killed in that game, you cant speed up in ur stolen car without hitting ATLEAST one innocent civilian.
Come on u knw its no big deal, a true gamer knows the fun in video games and knows not to take things too serious....END OF STORY
