We've seen customized game controllers, heavily modded controllers, and even ones that look like coin-op arcade controllers, but we're pretty sure we've seen nothing like this one here. Independent game accessory designer Benjamin J. Heckendorn (a.k.a. Benheck in the gamers' circle), designed a controller exclusively for one-handed use. The PlayStation 3 console prototype controller has all the features a standard controller has and is configured for either handiness.
Called the "Access Controller", this is the second prototype designed by Benheck. Its biggest draw is the fact that the five button area placements are interchangeable for either left or right-handed preferences. It's also possible to switch them around to optimize its layout on a game-by-game basis.

Innovative design indeed. Just how practical this new controller will be is yet to be seen. The unit is currently in pre-production for manufacturing through eDimensional.com. For the Microsoft fans out there, a Xbox 360 version of the Access Controller is also in the making.

That's a 360 controller. PS3 uses circle, square, triangle and x. That's A, B, X and Y. Plus it's the 360's D-pad, triggers and joysticks.
"The prototype was an Xbox 360 controller, and as mentioned the first production units will work on the PS2/PS3" looks like i'm wrong... i think?

Excellent to see someone catering for the poor buggers who only have one hand/arm. They been missing out on conventional gaming until now [as far as I know?]. Good show Ben!
Looks like someone made it from a canteen. If its for 1handed people, thats understandable then. But which hand is it better for?
Now I can get my step dad to play games with me. He lost his right arm in a car accident.

What, he's masturbating with the other? Or drinking a beer? it's so useless. And I don't see how he can move while changint the camera while attaking an ennemy... it would be SOOO HARD with fingers placed like that, and I'm sure that after a while, you get a Tendinitis...
What about people with one hand? And how could he not do all of those things? There's five modules and 5 fingers. Someone dedicated enough could get good at it.
Well I guess I didnt consider the one handed people in this, but outside of them, I see this controller as a terrible idea.. why would you want to play any game that uses two sticks using your thumb and pointer finger?.. Geometry Wars would be next to impossible, and forget about trying to play an FPS title. I admit I don't have the technical know how to create this, but if I didnt I would certainly think of a better application than this.
Guys, the original he made was for a guy that lost an arm or a hand in one of the recent American wars so this update is probably to go along with that. It's not really designed for able bodied players. It's probably shaped like a hip flask so the 1 handed player can rest it on their leg without it falling off.
