Xbox 360 - Image 1

Aaron Greenberg shares a few words with G4TV and lets us in on a little more PS3-sniping, and more citing of figures that the Xbox 360 and Wii have that the PS3 does not. The figures they've gotten say one thing loud and clear: they did great in 2008, the PS3 didn't.

"A lot of people have asked us how 2008 went, and there was a lot of anxiety about the economy retail spending and all that. We saw reports of the worst holiday spending in six years. WhatÂ’s very fortuitous for us is that, as a category, video games have done pretty well," he said. It won't be the first time we'll hear about this, but the sales figures really smile in their favor.

So we think that we’re one of those industries that since consumers are staying in for entertainment, looking for gifts that the whole family can enjoy, we’ve benefited. “We” by the way - that’s us and Nintendo.

What's more, he expects that Sony will have to drop the price of their console if they want to keep up. "We expect Sony will have to drop price in order to remain competitive in the market. I think they obviously struggled this holiday. I think we saw it in the November sales results, and I think weÂ’ll see it again," he said. "You know in the current economy trying to sell a console twice the price of your competitors is tough. Especially when youÂ’re not really able to differentiate in value, if you donÂ’t have more games, and if you donÂ’t have the bigger online community."

Says Aaron Greenberg:

So yeah, I wouldnÂ’t want to trade places with them, but who knows what they will do. Our belief is that they will be forced to drop the price of the PS3 sooner, rather than later, in order to remain competitive.

Well, I certainly hope that Sony will get that price cut. Having read through all of Greenberg's remarks, it'll be interesting to see what Sony's response to all this is gonna be. Price cut *hint hint* but that's just my hopeful thinking.

PS3 doesn't need a price cut

PS3 needed a hack. The only cheap way to play those next-gen games right now is through 360.

He doesnt realize and alot of people dont is that the xbox360 has been out a year longer than the PS3 and the Xbox has sold 28 million in 3 years and the PS3 has sold 20 million in 2 years imagine what it would be like if they came out at the same time its gonna be like its gonna be in the future the PS3 would be on top and plus Xbox has really nothing coming out this year to get people to want 1 the PS3 has a pretty good library of games coming out his year so microsoft really needs to watch out and if the ps3 does a price cut all i can say is its over for xbox this year is gonna be the downfall to the xbox and im not trying to start anything which it will on here but its the truth and this Greenberg guy is an idiot he never has anyhitng important to say so far everything ive ever him talk about is drama all he is a drama queen what he needs to do is get a job at sony because after this year is over microsoft will be laying off because there gonna being going in the whole because the lineup of ps3 titles this year is 2 strongand every1 knows it 2 so now that u have read this go ahead and start arguing littlee children because i know its gonna happen

PS3, gaining momentum in 2009.

I understand what Aaron is trying to say and it makes a lot of sense. I really think this year Sony didn't do enough to try and pull gamers in. I believe Sony really dropped the ball by not having a price cut before the holiday season. and it really shows. The PS3 is not a bad system by any means, and it has it's share of good exclusives, but in the wake of an economic crisis there just wasn't enough there this year for consumers to drop the extra cash. Though I do believe in 2009 if Sony makes a price cut they can really turn things around, while I do not believe they will surpass Microsoft but I think the gap will definitely narrow this year. I am intentionally leaving Nintendo out because I do not believe either company will pass them out this time around, the Wii is popular across a broad spectrum and has captured the casual audience, something that is very hard to beat. Microsoft and Sony on the other hand cater to a very similar audience, and if Sony does it's job this year I believe Microsoft and Sony will be in a near 50/50 split in the end. For the record I am not a fanboy of any one system, I play the games I enjoy and that's it. I am looking at this from an objective and realistic perspective and would like to see each and every company do well, healthy competition benefits us as gamers.

I hope things work out for Sony.

I will admit, i was a super Sony fanboy, but when they started talking about the PS3 and the cost and they really didn't really have the games i wanted (JRPGs), I went with the 360. I'm happy with my purchase, but I'm still saddened to see Sony suffer like this... I do have to say though, they had it coming. They got too complacent and *****y and let their guard down. A lot of the stuff the PS3 is doing now was actually promised for the PS2 and never happened... As for Microsoft not having anything to show for this year, every year starts out like that for them, then towards May to November they start announcing a ton of stuff. Sony had to show their cards now so that people will stay on the PS3 and not move on. For two years now they've been saying, "The best is yet to come." I want it now!

blkthunda is right

microsoft already "responded" to sony. This guy is just repeating the same thing he said a few weeks ago, like he is begging for attention.
