A PS3 fanboy's pessimistic forecast on Square Enix's big Final Fantasy 7 announcement |

In numerous instances, Square Enix has told the gaming media that "a big Final Fantasy VII announcement is coming soon." That announcement is said to be slated for their August private party in Japan, and the iconic RPG makers are hyping it up. The burning questions now are these: what will it be and how shocking is it exactly?
This blogger has no idea what it is. But after Square Enix stole the show with their Final Fantasy XIII cross-platform announcement in E3, I say anything really is possible. With that, I'd like to offer a pessimist's view of what the big FF7 announcement will be in the mind of a PS3 fanboy gone salty in the aftermath of E3.
10 potential Final Fantasy 7 announcements that could piss you off:
- The big announcement is that the real big announcement has been postponed to TGS 2008.
- An FF7 jigsaw puzzle game for the Nintendo DS.
- A Buster Sword-oriented game for the Wii where you swing the Wiimote to attack with Zack and Cloud's trademark weapon.
- A rail shooter compatible with the Wii Zapper with Vincent again as the lead character.
- A Nintendogs clone with Red XIII as your pet.
- An attempt at an FPS with Barret as the hero.
- A knock-off of the snowboarding minigame in FF7. Only this time, you'll do it with a Balance Board on the Wii.
- A compilation of all FF7 and spin-off soundtracks.
- An FF7 remake and it'll be on the Xbox 360, too!
- There will be no FF7 remake, sequel, no nothing. Yup, that's the big announcement.

If it is a FF7 remake, it'll go on the 360. Then the world will explode. Because obviously, Square Enix didn't really get too well known everywhere until their PS1 days, but everyone likes to say otherwise.
Tbh, I kinda hope FF13 sucks. The last good FF to me, was FFX.

Even though it is to do with VII, I'm secretly hoping for a FFVI/FFIII remake. That FF game was one of the best IMO, and didn't recieve nearly as much attention as it should have...
id rather have an ff7 remake thats also on 360 than not have one at all.

Im pretty pessimistic myself.
My guess is a new game in the compilation.. still no turned based RPGs.. maybe another action RPG. And just to piss me off, its going to be on DS (The only system I dont have)
I can't believe nobody has even thought of a Dirge of Cerberus Sequel. I mean the game did kinda just drop of with genesis flying of with his brother, Weiss's body. Could this be it?

I haven't played Dirge of Cerberus. Yet.
But now both that and Crisis Core are spoiled for me, because I now know i'm not going to have the pleasure of killing Genesis in CC, as he's still alive at the end of DoC. Cheers.
But if it IS a FFVII remake, or even a sequel (or, dare I dream, both) then I'll fly to Japan and buy everyone at Square Enix a drink.

Dude it has nothing to do with what you hope. FF13 is going to be a *****ing insane game no matter what. I don't know how you could have liked number X and not XII. Anyway, the only reason you are hating on it seems to be because it is no longer exclusive to us and thats pretty wack man cause the only thing that has changed now is that more people will get to enjoy a really *****ing great game. I can't look into the future, but I can sure as hell guess that XIII will be nominated for GOTY when it is finally released.
Whoever wrote this list sucks. I am a PS3 fanboy and FF7 is easily my favorite game of all time. I'll agree, some of the stuff you have on the list would really suck. But even as a PS3 fanboy, I would not give a ***** if they announced a remake for 360. I would obviously buy it for PS3, but as an ff7 fan, I'd be much happier to know that more people in the gaming community will be able to play it. Remember that not everyone can afford every damn console on the market. The game is absolute gold and anyone who would not be able to play it would be missing out on a *****load.
Wot a load of old rubbish the Final Fantasy games are. Nice graphics and thats about it in my humble opinion. The rest of it sucks.

What will piss people off (and what eventually will end up happening) is that they will announce Dirge of Cerberus 2 (watch the secret ending which involves a certain FF7: Crisis Core character).

I'm not sure, cant really remember but didn't the Sep. say at the end of Advent Children somthing like "I'll be back." Did they already confirm there would be no direct sequel (not spinoff) to FFVII

really, really, etc. want a PS3 remake Final Fantasy VII, but at the same time i'm worried that they'll change the combat system to be like XII (or like XIII's looks in the videos).
Now, i'm not saying I don't like XII's battle system, far from it. I just think that changing the original gameplay of FFVII would be like repainting the Sistine Chapel in perywinkle blue with a mural of the Happy Days cast.

If it plays anything like FF12, it will. That was a total disappointment.
FFX was the last great Final Fantasy game. Even if you liked the new battle system in FFXII, the story was not up to par.

All I'm saying that Square Enix should have been loyal to the console that made their games become big hit and household names in the gaming industry. They used to be own other console before FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII and FFIX on PsOne and those before the PsOne Sucked BIG Time.
Most of these devs kiss-ups for the X360 and Wii.

ff7 installment, where cloud must fight his distant relatives Mario and Luigi because they wanted to take all the mushrooms in the world, and buster sword becomes a wrench :)... only for wii... yup, sounds possible

As far as I know, they didn't specify that it was a FF"7" announcement. People only seem to assume that because it was brought up alongside the Blu Ray release of Advent Children.
It could be anything. But it's pretty likely that it has to do with FF7.

Actually they merged after FFX-2. Before anyone says that the SquareEnix title appeared in the game, look up the Japanese version, which was released earlier in Japan.
