A heart warming tale: heroic 9 year old saves dad, might get a PS3 as reward

In Portland, Oregon, a nine year old finds himself in the most unusual role of playing the hero - and this time, it's no game. Little tyke Matty Lovo Jr. was able to take control of a runaway truck when his father, Matt Lovo, conked out cold on the wheel. We're talking a 100,000 pound truck carrying lumber down the road here - definitely not your everyday thing that a nine year old would find himself driving, if at all.

The story goes that Matt had just gone unconscious, and at first, Matty thought his father was faking it. So, he went behind the wheel and tried to wake him up. Upon realizing the danger they were in - at that time, they had already drifted over to the wrong side of the road! - he decided to take matters in his own hands. Heroism is an instinct, even with little kids now. Matty seems to think so.

Kyra Phillips of CNN was able to have a chat with the young hero and his father, recounting how the whole ordeal went about. Matty was able to get the truck back onto the right side of the road and managed to use the C.B. radio to call for help. Luckily, another truck driver was able to give Matty some instructions to turn the key and switch off the engine. Soon enough, the truck coasted over to a stop, where someone was finally able to get the father and son out of the truck.

Here's the interesting bit, though. Part of CNN's segment of the report has Kyra Phillips interviewing the father and son:

Phillips: So, Matty, do you consider yourself a hero?
Matt Lovo, Jr.: Yeah.
Phillips: Yeah? And so now that you're a hero, what's next? What are you going to do?
Matt Lovo, Jr.: I don't know.
Matt Lovo, Sr: He keeps telling me he thinks he needs his PlayStation 3 now for a reward.

And why not? Kids these days grow up so fast. One day they're saving lives, then next they want PS3s.

This story sucks? This story rocks!

I think it's still meant to be hard to get a Wii over in America though, so he might have to settle for a 360 instead, or wait a while. Depends where he lives.

Anyway, all fanboy baiting aside, who actually expects a reward for doing something like that? Sure it's nice to be rewarded for stuff you do, but you don't go asking to be rewarded for stuff you have to do. And how is it heart warming when he's being so vain because of it?

Or is asking for rewards just some messed up American thing I don't understand because I'm English?

Lesson learned, don't drink and drive a truck load of lumber, if you intend to do it, be prepared to have a 9 year old to assist.

The reward should've been a driver license for lil Matty Jr.

A. get a 360 for good games and the fun of warrenty after warrenty shipping, with his parents commiting suicide because each time his 360 broke he would cry and b!tch all week.

B. get a ps3 with ok games, enough games on the psn to entertain the adverage 9 year old, ease of mind knowing it wont break as easy. and a more fun control scheme.

C. get a wii that will keep him entertained till he is 13...duh

on a side note, if he does get a 360, it just means more whining kids on GoW and halo...which just raises the majority of 360 gamers lol

As you can see,the PS3 is in ABSOLUTE last place,behind everything else.

To be relevant,the kid probably just hasn't been able to read about the problems/lack of good games,so he naturally goes with the one that's the most expensive/looks the best.Besides,at 9 years old,most kids seem to not be able to tell when a game is bad unless it's horrendous.(e.g. Big Rigs Over the Road Racing)

Nintendo was only concentrating on games to begin with. They say so all the time. They're not concentrating on other things like Microsoft and Sony. They do add some smaller features like a weather channel and news channel to make it a little more like a centralized tool, but they just want people to play games and get some practical use out of their console once in a while.

The Wii can't do anything but yawn? Ok. So the millions of people who purchased one to make it the #1 selling console (not talking about handhelds) so far in this next-gen era are wrong? True, they may lose ground in the future, but you have no basis to make these claims now. And copying PSP's umd? First of all, Nintendo has been using their own formats for forever. Cartridges have always been their format, and then they switched to their own CD format on the Gamecube, before the PSP. So please get your facts straight. (Dreamcast did it too)

And then you compare Microsoft's income (talking about Windows Vista?) to the income Nintendo gets from the Wii? Wow. Microsoft's install base is way greater than anyone's because of the PC market. You can't compare that to video game consoles.

Each company is trying to do their own thing. (Although it looks like Microsoft and Sony are trying to compete.)

So please, bountyhunter53, do some research before you make baseless claims.

People will be out dere waiting i myself know people who have the wee but didnt like it so moved on the ps3 which they liked even for the extremely high price. This is like history repeating it self u know what happened with the ps2 when high price put everyone off then when it had a price cut the ps2 when off like a rocket aiming for the stars and ps2 is still selling right now. This is whats going to happen with the PS3 it always happens with all of their consoles.

Its just that the wee has just got a head start from its low price out of all the consoles and some people havent even bought any because they're waiting for the main priice cut for the PS3 so counting the whole world the ps3 might just win by 20mil if its the whole world. People all over the world are waiting for the main price cut and you could see this from the huge amount of people that havent bought anything. I myself bought a Rear-Projection Sony Bravia 50" Television Which is HD-Ready and fully compatible with the PS3 and the Xbox360 Which does really keep in going in for a service every now and then.

P.S I did rerlly buy the Bravia Which cost me £1500 with a Surround System.

No one is denying that the Wii's lower price is a major part of its selling point. However, you must realize that this is what Nintendo was aiming for from the beginning. They could have put out a power house system like the Microsoft and Sony, but they chose to move in a different direction.

I have no doubt that the PS3 will pick up in sales once a price cut and more games begin to appear. They won't however, be able to match the other consoles, mainly because of the cost of manufacturing. Their complex machine's price can only be lowered to a certain point before they begin to take huge losses (bigger than when they did it for the PS2).

I own all 3 systems, and I use each one for different reasons. I say, to each his own, and let it be at that.
