To all the PS3 fans out there, it's only 4 months until the Tokyo Game Show, and 6 months until release. We'll have something to shut up the dissenters then. Be patient. The same people that are talking bs now will be creaming their pants when the heavy hitters come out around this time next year. I was at E3, I saw and played the system. Sony may actually live up to the hype of what the system will deliver this time. Forget the past, and approach this new generation with a clean slate. Even Microsoft and Nintendo have impressed me immensely this time around, and I'm diving into their pool also.
To the dissenters: Quit being jerks and enjoy being a gamer. The competition is going to be fierce this time around, and the gamers are going to be the ones who benefit. All 3 companies are whipping out their "AAA" game, and I'm pumped for all 3 consoles.
To the people that can't afford a PS3: Don't worry about it, the system will drop in price sooner rather than later (I'm guessing around the fall of 2007), and it will be more than worth it by that time. In the meantime, enjoy the consoles you can afford (ie a 360 or Wii), as they are no less spectacular too.
basically, everybody needs to chill with the crazy fanboy bs and just have fun. gaming isn't about segregation and factions. it's about escaping into a digital world, and forgetting about your real life troubles for a few hours out of your day. it's about good times and fun.

they also forgot Heavenly Sword, which I got to play at E3, and man, did that game kick ass. like I've said numerous times before, it's God of War with a female lead. but it's no less gorgeous (the visuals are simply breathtaking, especially the little details), and the gameplay is fast and fun. if you're going to immitate an action game, God of War isn't a bad choice.

of all the games i saw and played at E3 for the PS3, i don't think a single one looked last gen to me. what it boils down to is time. Microsoft launched the 360 within a year of it's announcement. that's quite a feat, actually, but as a result, developers had to rush and put out titles, and they didn't really get a chance to learn the system, and really push the console visually.
in order for Microsoft to get an edge this console cycle, they needed to launch before the competition. can you imagine if the PS3 had launched first? it's lead would be to much. the PS3 on the other hand, has had an additional year of development time, and the launch games show that, as the system is already using techniques that it has taken Microsoft a year to learn.
next year promises to be much, much more interesting, as PS3 second generation games are going to be coming out (like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII). the few sneak peeks we've seen of that generation look comparable, if not outright better than second generation 360 games. personally, i don't care which system looks better, i just want to play some good games, and both systems will have them in spades. from exclusives (like MGS 4 and the Naughty Dog game, as well as Final Fantasy, Gears of War, Mass Effect, and Too Human), to multi platform (GTA 4). man, i'm so excited about all 3 systems that i'm close to bursting, actually. good times are ahead, and in lew of all this uncertainty, that's the one singular guarantee of all the new consoles.

Were you at E3 this year?
Did you get to hold the PS3 controller in your hands?
Did you get to see, first hand, and not grainy videos, the games the system will be offering come November 17th and 2007?
If the answer is no to one or more of these questions, kindly sit down and reserve judgement until you do. Trust me, come later this year, many feet will be in many mouths, and it will not be the feet of Playstation fans.

I think graphics will be taking a huge leap forward in the coming years, these consoles are providing developers with power to make the pc devs drool.
Oh and take a look at crysis, for the PC , the fricken pc, easily one of the best looking games at the show. Not running on incredibly advanced hardware (i mean a good video card is required but, so far there saying it's not gonna need a beast of a pc to run) i mean they're not getting a 6-8 thread processor with a cutting edge gpu to work with, they're working with current pc hardware. So it just goes to show there's a lot of power to be tapped and i wouldn't be horribly surprised if some of the playstation devs happen to do it first.

I started with an N64 in the N64 era, and was a die-hard Nintendo fanboy (After all, I was 11 and wanted to make myself feel better about what console I had). But by the end of that generation, I had, and loved, a PS1, due only to the freaking sweet game selection on that system.
Thus, going into the PS2 generation, I was all over the PS2, getting my first job in order to buy myself one (14/15 at the time). However, by two years ago, I had all three consoles, because each one had a few exclusive must-have games (Halo, Zelda, FF). So, since I have all three consoles, I'm basing my opinion on this generation based on which system I'd rather play 3rd party non-exclusive games on. The winner? Xbox. IMO, Xbox wins this time around simply because it was able to get itself some good exclusive titles, it's the most powerful system, and its amazing (by this gen's standards) HD support.
So, what conclusion does this long and boring story lead me to? Its going to end up just like the last generation--each console is going to have its exclusive titles worth owning the system for, and fan-favorites will be decided by console power. Thats why my launch money is going into the PS3. On top of having games that are looking to be better than the 360's 1st gen launch titles, HDMI output, Blue-Ray support, a 60-Gig HD are going to be what sells the system to me.
--18 I'm glad to hear that from someone who's been to E3. I had always been relying on the MGS4 shots to show what can be done realtime with the PS3, as past MG games tended not to make pre-rens look better than actual gameplay footage.
Added note: As much as I hate to admit it, Linux support is another selling point for me. Thats going to save me a couple hundred dollars that I was going to spend building a junk computer to run Unix on.

there appears to be a new vocal character called figboy, kudos for making yourself heard, i got bored after a while... it seems there are just too many people out there who just want others to be unhappy.
ok, there's one issue i have with the whole fanboy vs fanboy battle this time round, and that is graphics. now when xbox came oout the whole sony fanboy team went on about how graphics weren't worth fussing over, and team-xbox were all over how powerful it was... now this time round ps3 has the edge (whether you like it or not) and the roles are reversed, with xbox people saying how graphics aren't everything and sony fans saying they've got the most powerful system. THEN there's the argument over pre-rendered material, surely xboxfans if graphics don't matter, who cares if it's prerendered?!
you can't have it both ways, if you care that something in that video was prerendered then you do care about the graphics 'race'.
for me the next gen starts at ps3 and wii, just because they have the franchises i'm interested in. mgs, ff, mario, zelda... not to mention the other ps3 titles which piqued my interest (heavenly sword, assassin's creed). if xbox gets some games i want i'm going to be in a quandry, as i don't have the cash for both.
in closing, can we all take a chill pill, and if you really want to make a noise why not go find out about the thing you're complaining about first?

to 27: Also thanks! i do find it hilarious and ironic the role reversal concerning Sony fanboys and X Box fanboys. last gen, it was all
"X Box just looks better! I got the X Box version because the graphics were off da hook!"
Reply

"Whatever! Graphics aren't everything, it's all about the gameplay! and X Box Live!"

to 30: only a small portion of that video was prerendered, i'd guess about 30% was prerendered. the other 60% was real time. look up those games yourself and check out the in game screenshots. yes, they *do* look that good.
to 33: Heavenly Sword may not make the European launch date. there has been no word on a US release. MGS4 is considered a second generation PS3 game because it comes out after the business fiscal year, which is March 2007. the 360's fiscal year ended March 2006, therefore everygame coming out after that date is considered 2nd Generation, while everything before is considered 1st. the same goes for the PS3. games like Resistance, Warhawk, and Untold Legends are 1st Gen games. i hope that clears things up.

The Getaway is also a Sony exclusive title, but I just hope that game actually delivers this time around, and the first two were mediocre. Very good and enjoyable games like Resistance, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, and Gran Turismo are also Sony exclusives, so I don't see how Sony fans are getting screwed, but to each his own, I guess.
You're also presuming that there will be no *new* original titles created for the PS3. God of War, Okami, Shadow of the Colossus, Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts and Katamari Damacy all made their debuts on a Sony console, and were new and fresh at the time of their first appearance. Just because a few familiar titles are going multiplatform, doesn't mean developers aren't creating content for each systems strengths exclusively.

@48: You don't make any points. Every "original games where based on consoles or ripped directly from consoles" is basically exactly what the DS is doing. Mario DS, Mario Kart DS, Metroid: Hunters, that new Super Mario Bros., Zelda, and more. All those are good games and the PSP is getting good games too. Please stop being a fanboy and start enjoying the compitition. Even if you are so loyal to Nintendo, I'm assuming since you are critizing portables, that you won't buy a PSP then atleast know that the better the compitition the better games you get.
@video: Awesome video! Even better song! Tool is great. If anyone liked that song then go buy Tool's album 10,000 days. It's really good.

#53, you may or may not work for Sony, but you don't work at Square-Enix or Kojima Productions. Hideo Kojima has never exaggerated when it came to his Metal Gear trailers. They *always* looked like the trailers. going by that universal truth, if the PS3 can deliver graphics as top notch at MGS4(which has been proven with real time demonstrations) , what makes you think that it can't deliver the visuals in FFXIII, or the Naughty Dog game? i swear. all this negativity and skepticism is really getting old.

Great movie and even greater song. The whole 10,000 days album is AWESOME, if you like tool you should go pick it up. I also hadn't seen some of the footage in that movie, and I liked the ending with Raiden... I could have almost seen that coming. It IS the coolest thing the PS3 has rendered so far, anyway

and while i do think that MGS4 will prove to be a worthwhile game, to dismiss the others reaks of fanboyism.
i suppose the millions of gamers that sunk their cash into Final Fantasy, Tony Hawk, Medal of Honor, Prince of Persia, Call of Duty, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank, Grand Theft Auto, and Splinter Cell have been wasting their time then? those millions of gamers have nothing to look forward too on the PS3? or any other console for that matter?
i'd recommend thinking before talking out of your ass again. just a little bit of friendly advice for future episodes of extreme and ignorant fanboyishness.

indeed, the PS3 isn't for the under 18 market, but out of 5 billion people on this planet, i'm sure Sony can find a few million willing to shell out $600 for their new console this year. the people who were 15 when the PS2 came out are 20 now. they've grown up and matured, and have jobs, and want a Next Gen console. probably more than one. and if they want it bad enough, they'll save up for a PS3 and buy it.
i don't get what all the fuss is about, as the price *will* drop. the PS2 sold 90 million units world wide. those 90 million units didn't sell itself during the system's first year. there were a bunch of folks that thought $300 was too much. so what did they do? they waited until the price dropped (and it did), then the other 80 million people hopped on board and purchased the system. i expect the PS3 to undergo a similar trend.
this first year is for the early adopters.
the second year will see the systems first price drop as the manufacturing process becomes more streamlined and cost effective. the 60 gig PS3 will probably drop to $500, the 20 gig to $400.
the third year will see another price drop, because of the same reasons as the second year, and also, just to remain competitive. knock off another $50 to $100 for each model. coincidentally, the cost of HDTVs will have dropped significantly in 2008 as opposed to 2006, and that $1000 flat screen will probably be retailing for $600 or less (i've already seen a 30 inch HDTV for under $1000, and a 20-25 inch for $700, so the prices *are* dropping).
by the fourth year, the PS3 will be under $300 for each model, and HDTV prices will have also dropped. as an added bonus, PS3 developers will have accummulated four years of experience developing for the console, and the games will be extremely close to tapping out the systems potential, as well as delivering some new tricks. since Sony plans on making this system "future proof" for ten years, we've only reached the halfway point of the PS3s life cycle, so you don't have to worry about plunking down *another* $600 in five years for the PS4.
by the PS3's fourth year, Microsoft will be releasing, or planning to release, the follow up to the 360, which will probably retail at $500 to $600. judging by how they unceremoniously abandoned the 24 million people who purchased X Boxes, especially the ones that bought one the year before the 360 launched (like me), i don't put it past them to abandon however many 360 users they have and dive full force into the 360 part 2. the X Box has little to no support, making the $200 i spent on that unit a wasted investment. if i had known the five titles i bought on the X Box would be supported by it's follow up, i would have saved that $200 and bought a 360 instead. as it stands, i didn't know about the 360 launch at the time i bought my X Box, so i feel kind of cheated, and i'm not in a hurry to give Microsoft my money just yet.
The PS2 is still getting heavy support from most, if not all developers, with titles like Okami, God of War 2, Destory All Humans 2, Final Fantasy XII, Valkyre Profile, FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus, and many others, so i'm still seeing entertainment return on my $300 investment five years ago. *That* is why i'm more willing to put my business with Sony in *this* console cycle. the PS1 and PS2 didn't let me down, so i have no reason to believe (especially based off of what i saw and played) that the PS3 will be any different.

i don't agree to the mentality that video games, comic books, and cartoons are for little boys only, and that i should stick to the more accepted form of adult entertaiment like movies and novels. it's called maturity, and i suggest that you look into it, as it keeps one from coming off like a complete douchebag and child, and works wonders in something called the "real world," where the farce that is the High School heirarchy is shown to be worthless and a waste of effort and time. basically, i find it sad that you base your likes and dislikes off of your peers, than off of your own sense of self and individuality.
