80GB PS3 found hiding in Best buy Canada

Sony has repeatedly maintained that the super behemoth PlayStation 3 unit carrying a 80GB hard drive will only be available in South Korea. For now. Spokesperson Satoshi Fukuoka was once quoted saying they are looking into the possibility of the said version of the console being released in other territories.

Despite all these, online site Sony Protection Group (SPG) claims that some people have sighted a listing of the 80GB PS3 at Best Buy Canada. What's weird is that all features are the same (SKU, Web Code, not to mention pricing) except for the HDD capacity. SPG went back to the site and, what do you know, the listing was gone.

Could this be a slip-up from Best Buy? Is the 80GB PS3 already hiding somewhere here in the West only waiting to be unearthed? Or is this the work of a truly skillful hand well-versed in Photoshop magic? To be quite frank, there are still many questions surrounding this matter and only Sony can provide the answers.

While the company is still keeping mum about this, why don't you check the screen capture of the page first and tell us what you think about it?

I have a PS3 and I think that Sony has now got a big problem with the 20 gig version,the games are always going to be based around the 20 gig version no matter what size they go up to,as like the 360 core,there are going to be owners who wont upgrade but will cry if the games are not compatible with their system..

If you are really concerned about the size of your hard drive go buy an aftermarket 120 or 200 gb drive. The nice thing about the PS3 is you dont HAVE to use a sony drive like MS is doing to their system (ehhm xbox360 elite)

While I fully believe Sony has a 'surprise strategy' lurking somewhere in the States this summer regarding the 80gb model, I don't think this is it. The number 8 in the screen capture looks a little wonky, if you ask me.

Yea i agree people in canada are pretty nice. I'm canadian myself and i live in toronto. However i much perfer the united states of america due to the economy there. Our economy sucks balls, making money is way harder here than there and im a lawyer. i make about 150k canadian a year about 113k USD a year and i find living pretty hard. I used to make half million in the united states but i decided to move here to raise children, which i dont have yet.

There’re so many stup+d PS3 fanboys right now who bark that PS3 is superior to X360 console; that’s the reason why I wrote this informal essay.

Let’s compare the most sold X360 game and the most sold PS3 game (HEAD TO HEAD DEATHMATCH); then talk about which console is superior to another at the end. Each category is worth 100 points unless mentioned. If it’s drawn, both get half points.

I spent much time to read about 10 different reviews on both games. Most sentences below are NOT my opinions (remember this). Most sentences below are from the reviews I read online.

[Epic’s Gears of War Vs. Insomniac’s Resistance: Fall of Man]

- Gameplay (300 pts): Resistance is a generic and mindless run & gunner. Epic adopted and improved Resident Evil 4’s point of view; then GoW’s over-the-shoulder revolutionized the gaming industry. Now, Sony’s best future games Uncharted Drake’s Fortune and Ratchet and Clank Future (when using weapons) both totally copied GoW’s point of view. Winner: GoW

- Graphics (300): GoW wins by a land-slide. No need to discuss more. Winner: GoW

- Awards: Many gamers bought GoW because it won so many awards. Winner: GoW

- Main character (200): Epic did a very good job on this. Marcus Fenix is as memorable as Halo’s Master Chief. Resistance’s Nathan is simply too boring to control. Winner: GoW

- Average review score: GoW got 94 from 172 different game related publications; Resistance got 89 from 164 publications; many gamers bought GoW because it got extremely high review scores.

Winner: GoW

- Level of Appealing (Fun Factor) (200): Resistance is all about run and gun like Halo 3 or Unreal Tournament 3. GoW has deep tactical play. Winner: GoW

- Online Modes (Multiplayer) (300): Resistance offers much more game types, but all of them are mindless run and gunner. GoW should have supported at least 8 versus 8 multiplay (4 Vs. 4 is just sub-standard). Winner: Drawn

- Single-player (SP): Resistance’s developers spent so much time, budget, and effort on this (Resistance’s SP is much longer); the thing is that Resistance’s SP is plainly boring and not even fun. Winner: GoW

- Weapons (200): Resistance has technically extremely advanced weapons, but these weapons are not balanced for multiplay. GoW has much less number of weapons; the thing is that lancer (the gun with chainsaw) alone is better (the powerful feeling; sound, lighting, and decal effects) than all weapons in Resistance combined. Torque bow and boomshot are extremely well made, too. Winner: GoW

- Music & Sound Effects (300): Resistance’s sound is on average; GoW’s sound is superb (especially guns and explosion sounds are mind-blowing). Winner: GoW

- Longevity (Replay Value) (300): Resistance’s run and gun gets old extremely quickly. Winner: GoW

- Technical Advancement (200): Resistance’s extremely huge maps + 42-player online + Resistance’s bull’s eye and sapper guns. Winner: Resistance

- General Concept & Originality: Resistance is a copycat of Half Life, Call of Duty, and Unreal Tourney. Winner: GoW

- Character Animation: Both games offer silky smooth movement of units. Winner: Drawn

- (NPC’s) A.I.: GoW’s AI is better made. Epic did a very good job here. If you kill one enemy in GoW, you feel satisfied and rewarded; if you kill one (or ten) enemy in Resistance, you feel bored and lame (LOL). Winner: GoW

- Atmosphere (Presentation) (200): GoW’s sci-fi movie like mood is all over the places. Winner: GoW

- Interface (attention to detail, how polished is the final game?): Winner: Drawn

- Overall Impressiveness (300): In general, GoW even deeply impresses diehard Sony fanboys. Winner: GoW

Finally, GoW won by f+cking huge margin.

- Resistance’s total score: 450 points

- GoW’s total score: 3,050 points

I said at the start that we need to talk about which console is superior to another at the end. Now, let’s talk about that. Which console is superior? If you’re still trying to defend your pathetic PS3 console then you must be illiterate and blind, period.

What's important is that every PS3 has a hard drive, so developers can cache data with any and every single game, the size doesn't matter because the hard drive is big enough as it is to cache data and 20GB is by no means small, so there is no problem at all, it just seems that you want to see a problem when there isn't one to begin with.

Seriously, youre comparing a PS3 LAUNCH game to a game for a console that has been out for over a year. Not only that, but you also are stupid enough to think that ONE dictates how good a console is. These games could have been on the same platform, and this essay crap would be null and void.

Not to mention how biased you are. don't give me any bull***** about you reading X number of reviews, you are seriously taking every aspect of the game and putting it down.

One point I felt compelled to argue is atmosphere. NO MENTION of anything about RFOM here. Is that because you haven't played it? I think so. Anyone who has knows that it effectively creates a chaotic tone, that definitely portrays what man's final struggle would be like.

AoxomomoxoA, you are an absolute moron, I love Gears of War, but half the points you made were ridiculus, comparing the only good game on the 360 which came out a year after the console with the second best game on ps3 which was a launch title doesn't mean sh*t anyway. wait till some games come out on both consoles before comparing games (GTA, Pro Evo, etc), then you'll see that there isn't really much of a diference between the two in terms of gaming, however the ps3 does beat the 360 on pretty much everything else, so keep telling yourself that your precious 360 is so superior, and keep reading those supposed articles on the games (probably taken off of www.xbox360fanboyclub.com) because otherwise you might realise that the ps3 has a hell of a lot more to offer.

I AM a graphic designer and I can tell you this is FAKE. You know why? Simple, Everywhere the text is "60" is easily editable (its on a white background) Even the text in the title bar is easily editable. If he didnt print 80 right over the title in photoshop he could have easily created a blank .html file with the right title, print screen, and voila, title bar showing 80GB.

Lastly and most importantly, this designer is an idiot because if you look at the Web Code on both the supposed "screen cap" and the current 60GB posting on the Best Buy site, the codes are the same. They both say Web Code: 10075271 which they wouldnt list 2 items by the same code (just like they didnt with the 20 and 60 Gb's versions when the 20 was still available).

If you still dont believe me, reply to this, and ill create a "screen cap" of the best buy sites and futureshop sites displaying a listing for a 9000 GB (or any requested size) model complete with a new Web Code...im being serious too..they wont take me more than 10 minutes each.

First most of your comments are just opinion, and note I didnt say all of your comments. You think Resistance's storyline is boring but I find it interesting (its much deeper than you think actually)/. You think Resistance's online is all run and gun, but that depends on the player. Weapons, you really like to be stuck with only one weapon all time?. Graphics, so yeah lets compare a launch game to a game out on a year old console (i've said that so many times over). Gameplay, cant exactly be compared, the point of view and perception of each game is different because one is an FPS the other is a third person shooter, again depends on each person's tastes
