PlayStation 3 - Image 1IGN has reported sightings of point of sales posters announcing that Australia will be getting the new 80GB PlayStation 3 SKU for AUD 699 (US$ 612), the same as the 40GB PS3.

According to retailers, the new SKU will hit on August 28. Official confirmation about the price and date have yet to be released, as Sony told IGN that neither price nor date for the 80GB SKU have yet been set.

While at this point this is still just a wee bit more than a rumor, the date does tie in with the SKU's August 27 European release as well s the previously announced August US release. Here's hoping that the bundle includes a DualShock 3 controller as well. Keep checking back here for more updates.

» Correct

I can confirm the 80GB model will be available @ retailers (at least GAME) come the 28th.

All stores have been told not to advertise this as to clear out 40GB stock since it is now discontinued.

Interesting side note is the PSP is now also classed as 'discontinued', Retailers are waiting for news from Sony so expect an announcement.

» yeah so what

i have a 40gb model

it was too easy to chuck a 350GB HDD in

im not going to buy anther PS3 until they bring back backwards compatibilty for PS2

alright i have a ps2

but it doesnt upscale for HD

ive already played SD ps2

i want to see how they look upscaled but cant because australians always get the slops

when US were getting the 60GB with emotion engine intact they decided to strip it out for aussie model and charge more

i would pay so much for an aussie emotion engine ps3 it would boggle you, MY NEXT PS3 HAS TO PLAY PS2 GAMES!!!!!!

This 80GIG MODEL WILL HAVE SAME FEATURES OF THE 40GIG SKU MODEL SO BASICALLY THIS 80GIG PS3 MODEL WILL NOT HAVE BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY AND WILL NOT HAVE MEMORY CARD READER , IT WILL HAVE THE SAME (2) USB PORTS AS WELL , SO ITS BETTER BUYING A 40GIG SATIN SILVER PS3 AND THEN UPGRADING THE HDD AND ALSO THE 80GIG PS3 WILL HAVE ONLY CLEAR BLACK(PLASTIC TYPE) AS THE ORIGINAL PS3 .

*THE 80GIG PS3 MODEL WILL COME TO EB GAMES AND JB HIFI INCLUDING ALL SONY STORES IN AUSTRALIA BY THE 27TH OF AUGUST PRICED AT 700-750 AUD
