80GB PS3 boxes? (Break out the magnifying glasses)

Kotaku received an interesting pic: PS3 packaging with 80GB slapped on the lid. Even more curious: they're Region 1 boxes - the same Region 1 where Sony Computer Entertainment America's Dave Karraker says "no announcement." (Kotaku IDs these boxes as Canadian-destined PS3,s though).

A clever leak? Or clever work with Photoshop? Or is Ashton hiding somewhere? Kotaku's taking it with a grain of salt. We're taking it with a grain of salt. Most people would probably take it with a grain of salt - not to mention to a professional photoanalyst. Maybe the FBI. Extra space is useful - but hey, in that case, the HDD can still be swapped, right?

Hey, Hitachi, where are you guys in the 1TB-2.5" SATA HDD development now?

My number on the bottom, below the picture of the ps3 and accessories says 9800, that says 98004, not sure what that means, but mine says 60GB in a box without the 60GO next to it. But they both say A, 1 and 1 left to right, above the contents on the left on both boxes. That 98004. I'm not sure what it means. Mine's 98000. I think it's real, but I'm not completely sure. I could photoshop something like that no problem, but I wouldn't expect that 98000 to change to 98004 from a photoshopping if it's the same region. I believe it.

hey guys i live in thailand and i purchased a sony ps3 here that IS 80GB OKAY and i didnt even reliase till after i baught it... i thaught it was 60GB it is exactly the same and when you go to system settings it says 77 out of 80GB free. this is not bullsiht i swera to god i will bet n etype of money on this. i just think that it hasnt been released in america yet. maybe its just a japant hing that that thai ppl have gone and got then sold here. btw it cost me 660$US...
