said on why i did not buy a 360 even before the PS3 and Wii launched and why i'm still not buying one now or in the future... to think i probably know more about the 360 (good and bad) than most of the people i know who has one cause of all the research... and for me personally what i derived is... i've got a PS3, a Wii, and a PC... i'm set for this generation.

I would say, at most, they asked 80% of all ps3 owners. Of those they got 60% who didn't know about blu-ray. Lets break that down as well: -10% are probably rich bastard kids who will buy anything that's expensive and seems cool. (to dumb to understand blu-ray) -Another 28% are probably just normal casual people who liked the ps2 and were able to scrap enough money to buy a ps3 while not knowing/caring that it had blu-ray -Another 12% are probably people who bought it in less advanced countries. Where blu-ray sales are near non existent. Most likely leading them to not care/know about blu-ray.

People are not idiots for saying the things you've quoted. For many gamers, it IS TOO EXPENSIVE. It is far more than they are willing to spend for a games console even if they can afford it. Blu-ray doesn't make it worth it for those individuals unless they actually WANTED a Blu-ray player to begin with. So for *some*, it is a rip off and it is too much to pay for a console. In a few years, when the price is much lower, many of them will feel different, but that doesn't mean they are wrong today, and it certainly doesn't make them all idiots.

Unlike you and the rest, i knew and researched about the PS3 b4 any real person knew about it in 2001, and cause of that i bought the PS3 knowing its going to dominate this year. The 360 is a good piece of technology and gaming console for sure but doesn't stack up to PS3. The Wii is another good piece of hardware but lacks graphics for this gen, but has Wii remote and with it current price makes it a fun and good game. But all in all People just don't research anymore they expect to use the machine for gaming and nothing else. If they actually research we would have problems on how to take care of systems, Like the stupid kid who put duct tape of the air vents. I have a PS3, PC and my sis just got a wii and just like Quixand i think im pretty good this gen. Maybe one day i will get the 360 but not now, i can just go over my friends house to play Halo 3 since that was the only reason for me getting it.

I don't know about the rest of the world but in the UK digital TV has been rolling out for the past few of years with everyone slowly converting. HD has only been waved about as something people can watch for the last year or so. With the average consumer keeping a TV for something like 7 years (yeah i'm guessing but it's at least that long) it's going to be a while before anyone but people with money to throw away gives a ***** about high definition. Hell, i'm willing to bet that widescreen isn't used in most homes yet. So the fact that the average gameplayer doesn't know/care about the high definition capabilities of their console is hardly surprising. The only reason i care is because i can't read the *****ing writing on my current TV.

"Owners and likely buyers" is nowhere near the same as just "owners". And lets be serious nobody 6-15 is an really an owner or a likely buyer of any game system. The number is really just the percentage of their total sample which includes the people who just own a NDS, Wii, or PSP and have no 360 or PS3. The headline here on QJ is complete BS. You could as easily sensationalize it as "Over 60% of Wii owners [and likely buyers] don't know that HiDef games exist."

Plenty Of Misinformed To Go Around

I know a lot of people who still call game controllers paddles. So many people don't even know what next gen gaming is all about. Sometimes when I am at Target or some other retailers and they are showing a game demo or a real time in game video on the monitors I hear people saying "what movie is that?" and then they go about their business without even knowing what they are really looking at. Also so many people think that next gen game systems are just for games. They don't realize that they also play movies, personal videos, music, pictures, and have internet access capabilities. Some people that come over to my house and visit see me playing PS3 and ask me "what are you watching?" and they don't understand why I have a controller in my hand with no wire. They think thats weird. And also I hear comments like " oh we have a Nintendo" and then I realize it is the original Nintendo Entertainment System and they haven't played it for years and it is somewhere stashed away at their house and they don't understand that PS3 is pretty different than the original NES games. At least we know and I guess as we grow and pass that knowledge to others, there will become a day that no one will not know about these things and they will become part of everyday life.

Look up "as is ps3" on ebay. For a system that should still be under warranty, there sure are a lot of broken PS3s going for cheap. Looks like no video output is the PS3's biggest problem from what I see on the internet. Personally, the 60% seems high to me yet it may be accurate. I don't know anyone that owns a PS3 or 360 that is unaware of their (and their competitors) HD features. As a matter of fact I don't know one person who owns a PS3 and does not buy HD movies for it. While buying HD movies I have met several older non-gamers who were smart enough to buy PS3's instead of $1000 stand alone BluRay players. They all love it and many if not most also mention using it to surf the web with out having to go to thier computer (i rarely use the web browser). Anyone who purchases goods without researching them and their competition is happy to be ripped off and just fine with not getting the most out of their money/goods. This is fine with me. It is not my problem. Some people getting ripped off has often allowed me to get a better deal. I really looked forward to buying a 360 until I discovered that MS decided not to include the HD DVD drive in the console. That combined with the Pay to Play online and some other features (such as Linux on PS3) led me to wait and get a PS3. This is not because "OMG $ony is teh best" or anything like that. I don't give a damn about $ony just as they don't care about me. Thus far, I like my PS3 and it's BluRay functionality but the fact is that Sony does not have enough games out for it right now. Soon enough this will be remedied. Anyone who is a fan-girl of any corporation that they don't A) Get a paycheck from B) Own stock in or C) Have a some other legitimate reason for preaching and praising it IS A FOOL. Corporations are For Profit Entities that usually could not care less about you as a person. Granted, well run companies seek to make you happy as a means of gaining future revenue from you and yours, but it seems that this is more often becoming a thing of the past. So back to the 60%.... Because if you actually do REAL research, and read indepth articles on places like arstechnica...and not just Sony PR propaganda, then you would know that 360 is set to be the better gaming machine. Sure if you want a blu-ray player or a linux box, PS3 would be a better choice. For straight up games though, the architecture within the 360 is more unified and efficient and will provide for the better gaming experience technically. Look at Killzone, it's no better or worse then gears of war, but it's taken them 1.5-2 years after gears of war came out for them to make something that looks similar....also Darkness, GRAW2, DIRT, R6 Vegas, were all said to run smoother and have more/better SFX on the 360....and most of the games came out ages ago (especially R6 Vegas, should have been improved alot in the 6+ months it took to come out on PS3...but it's worse) So then, tell me why PS3 is better, when it's obviously worse....and don't pull the "it was released a year late" BS....all that had to do with was blu-ray, a non-essential piece of hardware in the development process....meaning devs have had as much time on PS3 (in most cases more since their games take longer to come out) as on 360.... Sorry, but Sony has been in your head abit too much...

The Ps3 is the only console to play games with Blue Ray. Who ever thought of Blue Ray, You screw up the whole console. Im sorry but the Ps3 has been Screw up in 2006 and 2007. i know it will be bad in 2008. If the Ps4 comes out I better not see anything with blue ray again. Ps3 Could play Dvds but thats only with Blue ray. The Ps3 is the only console that I hate.
