Sony Playstation 3PS3 fans in the UK rejoice! Chances are that both the 20GB and 60GB versions of the Playstation 3 will be released in the UK. We hear, though, that they might not necessarily go on sale on the same day.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Sony Computer Entertainment UK's David Wilson said that Sony is currently in "a period of open consultation with retail and consumers to decide on the best way to approach the impending launches of both SKUs." (An SKU, or Stock Keeping Unit, is an identifier used by merchants to permit the systematic tracking of products and services offered to customers.)

When asked about earlier reports that only the 60GB model would be available in the UK, Wilson replied: "The likelihood is that both will be made available."

Wilson, however, pointed out that release of both models at launch is still unsure. He explained that Sony must face the challenge of offering choice without confusing consumers as well as meeting the needs of retailers.

In the interview, Wilson also confirmed that Sony has been discussing a scheme which would require consumers to pay a £150 deposit to pre-order a PS3. This is ostensibly to take place in the UK and is in addition apparently a "suggestion from the retail side". However, he went on, any suggestions that Sony has committed to implementing the scheme are "idle speculation."

Wilson ended the interview by saying that Sony intends to reveal more of its launch plan within the next two to three weeks.

Whats the different, you'll end up paying 600 bucks when you get your console. Your not going to have to pay 150 to preorder then another 600 bucks when you get the console.

From my understanding, the biggest use of HDD space amoungst 360 owners is for trailers and mostly game demos (where some are over 1GB in size). Hence 20GB can be filled pretty quickly for gamers who download a lot of demos, and therefore 60GB or more would be idea. Both the PS3 and 360 feature detachable HDDs, so expect HDDs larger than 60GB to be available in future (I believe it will be relatively easy for you to use your own 2.5" HDD in the PS3 btw).

no use...except for iso's

lets face it. who the hell is going to fill a 60 gig HDD with games demos and music. all that HDD is going to be used for is iso's as soon as the f/w is hacked ( wont take long judging by psp) iso's are going to be springing up everywhere. security will probably be tighter on ps3 if sony learnt their lesson but all the HDD is doing is making the specs look good. they know it will be hacked sonner rather than later. ok, i think that the HDD is a nice feature to have but no-one is going to fill it with legal content (even pirated music will be used) i have no doubt that it will be running iso's before its first month off the shelves (they may as well install a default ISO folder on the HDD)

I remember similar being said about the XBox - "8GB? Who the hell's going to fill all of that space", and yet gamers DID. The XBox 260 has 20GB, and already you have gamers filling all the space available, such that they have to delete files before they can download new demos. 60GB WILL be filled by gamers in the same way and with legal files. Just because you may not fill all of that space doesn't mean other gamers will not. 8GB on the XBox wasn't filled by every gamer, 20GB on the 360 isn't filled by every gamer, 60GB will not be filled by every gamer, but it WILL be filled by many.
