20 GB PlayStation 3 to arrive in the UK on October 30

The 20 GB version of the Playstation 3 will finally be arriving in the UK by October 30... according to Amazon UK anyway. Originally, the 60 GB version was the only unit that was released in the UK launch despite the public clamor for it. Sony managing director Ray Maguire even clarified in a statement last February, that the 20GB model will not be released due to the lack of demand for the 20GB model. However, Sony is now saying that they will now be sending the lower-end model of the PS3 to Europe, after they have consulted with retailers and were notified that there is a demand for it.

The PlayStation 3 20 GB version that will be released in the UK does not support Wireless 802.11 b/g and will not have any MemoryStick, SD, Compact Flash slots, this is of course in addition to the 40 GB storage loss. It's pretty much the same standard PS3 20 GB units that you can pick up in the US.

So, if you want a PS3, but you're a few pounds short (and you're fine without the features that were taken out) then here's your chance. However, you'll have to wait a few months until it comes out.

i would get this [not coz i'm cheap]

but because, my w/less router sit nxt to my X360/future PS3 spot [no need for w/less enabled PS3]

i dont really care about the card reader [i got a psp - but i would probably connect that via USB anyway [always recharged :D]]

&, 20GB HDD out of the box is fine for me - i'm just gonna put a larger 1 in anyway [whats the point of paying for a 60GB model if u'r just gonna remove it later]

anyway - roll on October

If your read the ps3's specs carefully you will find that the hard drive found in the system is laptop based. So if you are planning in buying the 20gb to upgrade it into e.g 80gb it will cost you as if, or even more than the 60gb model. Laptop components are way too expensive. So you will be left with no Wireless 802.11 b/g, MemoryStick, SD and the Compact Flash slots with the cost of the 60 gb modell. So my advice is either buy it and leave it as it is or buy the 60gb one and upgrade that one if you like...

It takes 2.5" hard drives which are currently available up to 320GB. The pricing isnt that bad, i have a 8gb 2.5" usb hard drive for less than £55

i still haven't got my 60GB PS3 that was guaranteed for the launch, so now i have to wait till Monday to see if it will turn up

and i did email Amazon UK to complain and they said that they tried to deliver but no one was in but i have been here the whole time and they didn't try to deliver
